Fantasy Eliteserien – Gameweek 3 Preview

After a five month long winter break the new season of Norwegian’s top flight football kicked off with a bang with two Gameweeks within a few days.

With Gameweek 3 starting on Saturday there is little respite for the clubs, and more importantly, us Fantasy managers. Gameweek 2 saw a lot of frustration as key assets were either benched or taken off early with the tight schedule in mind.

FFScout League Standings

The FFS community has shown an overwhelming interest for this fringe league, with 476 already having entered the FFScout main league (3769-1041).

On top with 135 points we find Norwegian Red (Oieiao) – perhaps fittingly – an Englishman.

In the FFScout  H2H league 16 managers have won both their matchups, with Ned Ryerson and Riski Virksomhet being joint top thanks to their superior points tally. Ned Ryerson features again on top of Phil Dagger’s Last Man Standing.

Stock Check

Ahead of looking at the risers and fallers from the two Gameweeks so far it is worth checking out Goktugerce‘s excellent statistical review of the first two Gameweeks, looking at team statistics, average positions and expected goals & assists. Meanwhile, Niemi took an in depth look at the good and bad players so far in every position.

Rising

Vegar Hedenstad (6.5) – Two clean sheets and an assist. On some set pieces.

Mike Jensen (10.5) – Two assists. Easy on the eye, which means he will be a favourite of ‘the man in the stand’. Already has 4 bonus points.

Milan Jevtovic (7.6) – A goal and an assist. A possible injury to Elbasan Rashani means Jevtovic could be nailed on going forward.

Nicklas Bendtner (12.5) – Two goals. The Dane is yet to find the groove but nonetheless has managed to find the back of the net in both games. Will score a lot of goals purely because of the sheer amount of chances Rosenborg create every game.

Sigurd Rosted (5.6) – Two goals. Not only is he a massive threat from set pieces, Sarpsborg play 4 out of their next 6 fixtures at home. Last season they kept an impressive 9 clean sheets in 15 games at home.

Patrick Mortensen (6.6) – Two goals and an assist. Sarpsborg have scored the joint most goals so far and the fixtures are favourable.

Gilbert Koomson (7.5) – Dubbed ’Siggy of Eliteserien’ by some of the FFS posters, Koomson showed some of his potential by scoring a penalty in GW2. The top assister from last season is yet to assist this campaign but that looks like a matter of time.

Bendik Bye (5.5) – Two goals and an assist. After a potential season ending injury for strike parter Ole Sveen, Bye should have done enough to nail down a permanent starting place.

Ifeanyi Matthew (6.1) – A goal and an assist. 4 bonus points already, including full points in a game his team lost.

Ibrahim Shuaibu (5.0) – Two goals and two assists. Incredible form and value.

Frederik Gytkjær (7.5) – Three goals. Mistaken for his brother who was the league’s top scorer last season, a lot of casuals have enjoyed the early investment of the younger Gytkjær.

Ohi Omoijuanfo (7.0) – Hat-trick in the first home game. 3 of the next 4 fixtures are at home.

Marco Tagbajumi (7.6) – Two goals. Going somewhat under the radar compared to his expensive strike partner Marcus Pedersen. Favourable fixtures.

Jylian Ryerson (4.5) – One goal. Listed as a cheap defender, Ryerson has played both games in an advanced midfield position. Will probably drop a bit deeper once Adegbenro is back. Ryerson is a jack of all trades and due to Viking’s extremely thin squad we could hope to see him OOP for longer parts of the season.

Falling

Ghayas Zahid (10.5) – Tipped by many to be in contention for player of the year, Zahid has nothing to show for so far. Consistent returns are vital for players with a premium price tag. Does however face the bottom team at home in GW3 so those patient enough to keep could finally be rewarded.

Mohammed Abdellaoue (9.4) – An impressive pre season was followed by an anonymous opening GW before being ruled out for GW2 with an injury. Is very injury prone.

Lars Vilsvik (6.0) – Viewed as a full back with big attacking threat, the only thing Vilsvik has produced so far is an own goal. The fixtures are however still good.

Rafik Zekhnini (8.5) & Fredrik Nordkvelle (9.0) – Although the former registered an assist after coming on as a sub, he was benched due poor work ethic in the previous match. The latter is yet to return attacking points.

Samuel Adegbenro (7.5) – After missing the first game through illness, Adegbenro returned to training ahead of GW2. But he missed the second game as well, and now await four of the toughest games Viking will play all season.

Gameweek 3 Picks

Scoring the winner in his debut game, Bård Finne (9.1) will look to continue his good home form when Vålerenga welcome the bottom team Sandefjord. With Abdellaoue being a doubt for Sunday, Finne might benefit from a central striker role.

When it comes to attempts, midfielder Ifeanyi Matthew (6.1) is second only to Bendik Bye with 4 shots per game. The Nigerian will certainly fancy his chances at home against what currently is the joint worst defence in the league.

Marco Tagbajuni (7.6) is on top for average xG (expected goals) per shot. Although a small sample size, this suggests he has so far been on the right place at the right time. Up against a shambolic Aalesund defence, the rather budget friendly striker could potentially even be trusted with the armband.

Tomorrow's matches are the most traditional matches in Norway. They are the day before the constitutional day which is a national holiday, so the 16th of May matches are heavily focused and the teams with most spectators tend to play at home, the same this year with home matches for Vålerenga, Rosenborg, Viking and Brann.

Typically this is the most watched match of the whole season with packed stadia.

This has no fantasy implications but I just thought I should say it.

Yeah, I think football on 16th of May in Norway is close to Boxing Day football in England.

There is maybe an indirect fantasy-implication, this is a prestige match as these home teams will feature in the parades the day after and would MUCH rather be cheered than booed as they go. Another element (although this was far more true before) is that since the "big" teams get home-games due to capasity and crowd potential, it follows they face smaller teams. Therefore home-advantage traditionally counts more this day.
That was way more true before though, since small teams like Stabæk, Odd and Sarpsborg are now against all logic big hitters in the league.

I actually looked into this before posting and for the last 3 seasons, there are no indications of home teams doing better than usual. Nor of them scoring more goals.

They are really doing much better than expected. Not sure if it will last, but right now he's a decent option. Not a good fixture this GW though.

Haha, thanks I guess. I'm flattered. I spend way too much time doing research in FPL and EF. Basing your teams on stats hasn't worked as well in Eliteserien as in FPL, although I'm hoping it will pay off over time.

    Save or do a transfer?
Rolantsson a good bet for captaincy?

    (1 FT, 1.0 itb)

    Lie
    Hedenstad/Ruud/Rolantsson (C)
    Svendsen/Midtsjø/Adegbenro/Braathen
    Bendtner/Ohi/Lindberg

    Bench: McDermott, Vilsvik, Moe, Nije

    1. MrKlin of Norway
      • 7 Years
      7 years, 1 month ago

Looks GTG, but keep an eye out for leaked starting XI in the mins before deadline, there is a risk of Lindberg and Rolantsson rotations midweek, might want to swap in Stabæk players from bench if that happens.

      1. Niemi
        • 9 Years
        7 years, 1 month ago

To be honest the starting XI's aren't leaked, they are official. They are normally out 1h15m before kickoff. Honestly the deadline should either be 1h15m before kickoff or the lineups should be released 1h before kickoff, but it's not so we should use it to our advantage.

    2. Niemi
      • 9 Years
      7 years, 1 month ago

Yeah, check the lineups before deadline. Rolantsson, Svendsen and Lindberg the biggest concerns IMO, but Bendtner and Braaten could also be rotated. Most likely you'll be fine, but if I were you I would simply use the players on the bench instead of selling players if there are some rotation.

Good point 🙂 Thanks 🙂 think I just leave him for now and maybe do Vilsvik -> Seck next GW 🙂

Really want to have two Rosenborg-defenders instead of Bendtner.

Want to do Vilsvik, Ruud and Bendtner -> Reginiussen, Seck and Sigurdarson 🙂

Jevtovic should be available now, right? Eliteserien haven't quite sorted their flagging system yet.

Considering captaining him after the post on possible Brann rotation, he should be fresh after chilling for 2 matches and Rosenborg have struggled for goals without him.

Would you pick Seck or Gregersen as replacement for Utvik?

The former has been in outstanding (attacking) form as of late, while the Molde man has a goal and assist so far this campaign and he plays arguably for the better team.

It was the first time I did an early transfer in EF (Ryerson > Seck) and it was a bad decision for this week as Seck plays Brann away. I wish I kept it to do a better one. I guess I'll replace either Leciejewski or Rolantsson with a Rosenborg defender in upcoming weeks though.

It is hard for me to decide on a captain this week. I am thinking about Haugen at home vs Sandefjord. But their defense look good. My other options are Hedenstad, Rolantsson, Zahid, Midstjo and Adegbenro.

I guess I'll just go with betting odds.

Wont be home in time for deadline and will probably not have time to check line ups and sort out team on phone either, so....
Got this, 1 ft. 0.8 itb.

    Ruud, Hedenstad, Rolantsson, (Stolås, Moe)
    Zahid, Adegbenro, Braaten, Jensen, (*Koomson)
    Ohi, Mortensen, (*Kastrati)

Does this seem right? Benching one the *.

    Or should I...
    1) Zahid + Kastrati to Jevtovic + Siggy for -4. Got exact cash tonight.
    2) Zahid + Kastrati to Bendtner + Sødlund for -4. 0.3 itb. I'd play Koomson.
    3) Zahid + Ohi to Bendtner + Sødlund for -4. 1.5 itb. I'd play Koomson.
    4) Save ft.
    5) Zahid to Helland, reverse last weeks transfer(Zahid were meant as maximum 2 week punt).

I don't think you should get in Bendtner because of speculations regarding rotations. Jevtovic should end up playing. I'd lean more towards saving the transfer. Zahid has a good fixture.

Yeah I really don't want Bendtner, just that I oike the idea of getting a 4.5 mid and thus avoiding benching headache though it gets me so much itb and Zahid were never gonna be in my team for more than 2 weeks(1 left).

It's gonna be 1(tonight) or 4. Or gamble on being able to do 1 after deadline... Both Jevtovic and Siggy got great fixtures.

Unless someone else has a great idea.

Why would you sell Zahid? He's a good option and this week he has the best fixture of the saeson.

And you should stay away from hits as long as you can in this game. Too random. Selling Zahid for a hit before he play Kristiansund at home is pure madness.

Well this is Eliteserien so who knows what will happen, but...

S08 have joint worst cs record - 1/8 overall and 0/3 away. Haven't look into Rosted details but only returns were GW1 goals and GW3 cs. Admittedly Lillestrom haven't been exactly brilliant home or away though.

FKH are home to Odd (who have decent home record but only 1/4 cs away - could arguably say their defensive record is improving I guess). And they can score goals; although not so much recently to be fair.

I expect S08 to get better defensive returns going forward, but I'd definitely play Shuaibu over Rosted.

                1) Bench Ruud (fkh) or Ryerson (AAFK) - Thinking Ryerson?

                2) Bench any of Riski (fkh), Adegbenro (AAFK), Trondsen (lsk) for Ohi (SIF)? - Thinking Trondsen?

I wouldn't trust anyone from Viking!
                    1) bench ryerson
                    2) I don't like trondsen here, he seems to be much less involved offensively compared to the first 3 gws

Cheers. Appreciate your point on Trondsen, but Viking results have been so awful I'm tempted to bench Adegbenro (without seeing full games it's very hard to gauge relative overall performances).

Most of his assist was from set pieces (which Lindberg mainly takes) and his goal was a howler from the GK. Not sure if he's less involved, he punched over his weight in terms of points (like Capoue did at the start of the PL season).

Hi, I need help as I have my 3C chip left.

                    Current front:
                    Sanchez, Eriksen, Alli, King, (Matic)
                    Kane, Costa, Jesus
                    1 FT, 0,8 itb
                    Considering 2 moves:
                    1) Alli > Coutinho
                    2) Costa > Vardy/Sturridge (not really sure is he is going to play SUN or rather in the FA Cup)
                    3) 3C Kane and get a defender with cs prospects

                    Really stuck here. Thanks.

                    Hei Brian,

I kveld sparkes runde 9 av Eliteserien i gang, og det er ikke en hvilkensomhelst-runde. Det er selveste 16. mai-runden!
Glem derfor ikke å sette opp Who am I før fristen utløper kl. 17.00! Tenk hvordan det ville vært å vinne «Rundens manager» i 16. mai-runden!

Sist runde fikk du 69 poeng, noe som betyr at du ligger på plass 8561 blant alle Eliteserien Fantasy-spillere. Totalt har du nå 357 poeng!

Just a reminder that GW9 starts today and it's the 16th of May (which is a big deal in Norwegian football). Don't forget the deadline today at 17:00 (16:00 in England). You got 69 points last GW, you are now 8561 overall. 357 your total score.

Just read a piece in Bergens Tidende on Rolantsson. Basically said he's surprised everyone this year and nobody expected him to be a key player in Brann's attack. The manager praises him and his right foot, and says he shoots like a horse. Rolantsson himself says he's going to shoot more and put in more crosses going forward.

A winger for one of the top teams, but also classified as a defender playing in one of the best defensive teams. Can't go wrong as long as he plays.

2,5 hours until lineups start rolling. Any plans you guys have? I'm hoping to save a transfer for the first time, but Rolantsson and Lindberg are the slight worries. No point shipping the former if he is rested, but I think Lindberg will go if he is on the bench.

He is good, but Mos looks more consistent. I would say Siggy is a better captaincy option if you can catch a haul, which has proven to be very hard for lot in this game
