Double Gameweeks 36 and 37 Confirmed

Earlier this lunchtime, the Premier League confirmed new dates for a number of fixtures, allowing Fantasy managers the chance to fine-tune their wildcard plans for the run-in.

Double Gameweek 36

Arsenal – Man United (H), Southampton (A)
Southampton – Liverpool (A), Arsenal (H)

Only two teams – Southampton and Arsenal – have been handed a double Gameweek 36 after their head-to-head, which was postponed due to the former’s progress to the EFL Cup final, was shifted to Wednesday, May 10.

Claude Puel’s men hardly have the easiest of schedules, with a testing weekend trip to Liverpool before entertaining the Gunners.

Similarly, Arsenal host Man United in the weekend prior to making their way to St Mary’s.

Double Gameweek 37

Arsenal – Stoke (A), Sunderland (H)
Chelsea – West Brom (A), Watford (H)
Leicester – Man City (A), Spurs (H)
Manchester City – Leicester (H), West Brom (H)
Manchester United – Spurs (A), Southampton (A)
Southampton – Middlesbrough (A), Man United (H)
Sunderland – Swansea (H), Arsenal (A)
Spurs – Man United (H), Leicester (A)
Watford – Everton (A), Chelsea (A)
West Bromwich Albion – Chelsea (H), Man City (A)

With ten teams set to play twice in Gameweek 37, this, as expected, offers a prime opportunity to use the remaining chips.

Obviously you are unable to play two chips in the same Gameweek, so if you are wildcarding in Gameweek 36 to set up your squad for Gameweek 37, it’s worth remembering that you cannot then also use a Triple Captain or Bench Boost in Gameweek 36.

Dealing the second wildcard in Gameweek 36 to catch the early potential offered by Arsenal and Southampton, then following it up with a Bench Boost or Triple Captain chip in the next Gameweek, looks the best solution.

In terms of the teams involved, the Gunners go to Stoke before welcoming Sunderland to the Emirates in Gameweek 37, while the Saints travel to Middlesbrough prior to facing Man United at St Mary’s.

Despite his recent drought, Alexis Sanchez is likely to find a place in many second wildcard teams, though non-owners may now choose to overlook him until the Gunners’ two pairs of fixtures, focusing their short-term plans instead on double Gameweek 34 attackers from Man United and Palace.

At 5.1, the likes of James Ward-Prowse could emerge as a decent midfield enabler, while the fitness of Manolo Gabbiadini will also play a part in our thinking.

For those looking to load up on Arsenal and Southampton for their back-to-back doubles, it’s worth bearing in mind that they also offer home matches in Gameweek 38, entertaining Everton and Stoke respectively.

Chelsea will now travel to West Brom before hosting Watford on Monday May 15, while the Hornets have consecutive road trips for their double Gameweek 37, with a visit to Everton preceding their Stamford Bridge encounter.

Crucially, moving the Chelsea v Watford match to that Monday evening has had a significant impact on the Gameweek 37 deadline.

Essentially, Gameweek 37 will now get underway on the evening of Friday, May 12, when West Brom host Chelsea and Everton entertain Watford. The deadline – an hour before the first match gets underway –will be 6.45pm.

Man City, meanwhile, are the only side set to play twice in front of their own supporters, with clashes against Leicester and West Brom on the agenda for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Having scored in each of the last four Gameweeks, Sergio Aguero will stake a claim for consideration here but – as we saw in the case of Raheem Sterling, who was rested for the second match of double Gameweek 27 – Pep’s tinkering could prove a spanner in the works.

For Man United, this means that all four of their matches across double Gameweek 34 (Burnley, Man City) and Gameweek 37 are away from home.

While those extra fixtures heighten the appeal of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has scored ten of his 17 goals on the road, the veteran has still offered more threat in front of his own fans, firing an effort every 18 minutes at Old Trafford compared with 30 minutes away.

Encouragingly for those eyeing up their backline, Jose Mourinho’s men have chalked up six of 12 clean sheets on the road this season – indeed, United have conceded less away goals (13) than any other side.

In spite of the Red Devils’ fine away record, faith in Spurs’ trio Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen is likely to remain resolute as they welcome United to the Lane before heading off to Leicester in the final fixture of Gameweek 37.

As always, we’ll look to publish ‘Scouting the Doubles’ articles assessing the prospects in greater detail in the build-up to each double Gameweek.

For now, this is just a heads-up. Enjoy tinkering..

I'm feeling a mixture of emotions about these DGWs. I'm sad I have used my WC already. On the other hand my WC 2 gw's ago went really well and was the right thing to do. I'm going to have to do some serious planning now though.

I used mine three weeks ago and have risen from 120,000 to 61,000. Also have 4 Arsenal and Saints, 7-9 DGW34 and will have 6 Arsenal/Saint and all remaining DGW37 without a hit.

Sometimes it's the right thing to do

if you gained 20-30 points by using your wildcard, you can do 7-8 transfers gw 37 and it'll still have broken even....thats how i look at it, scored 20 points more than i would have since i wild carded two weeks ago

I've been doing this for about a year now - it's free money. They don't seem too unhappy to keep giving me £30-odd every few months as long as I keep putting cash in for my weekend accas every week

It's called spread betting. That's like saying: You've put £50 at 5/1 on Boro to be relegated (which I have) so, you can't put money on them staying up now it's 15/1....Spread betting done to perfection.

So your Bench Boost is ...
Valdes, Chambers, Yoshida, T Davies - 3 singles and one double ? Not too different to an average week ?

Checking my spreadsheet for my potential benches in each GW:

                          GW 33:
Valdes vs ARS, Yoshida vs MCI, Chambers vs ARS (ineligible), Origi vs wba

                          GW 34:
Pickford vs mid, Yoshida vs che, T. Davies vs cpa, B. Davies vs whu

                          GW 35:
Valdes vs MCI, B. Davies vs ARS, Chambers vs MCI, T. Davies vs CHE

                          GW 36:
Valdes vs che, Chambers vs che, T. Davies vs swa, B. Davies vs whu

                          GW 37:
Valdes vs SOU, Chambers vs SOU, Yoshida vs mid & mun, T. Davies vs WAT

                          GW 38:
Pickford vs che, Chambers vs liv, B. Davies vs hul, T. Davies vs ars

I can't see any better alternative than GW 37 to use Bench Boost in.

Agreed, but I reckon we all have had a better option some where earlier in the season. DGWBB is bit of a misnomer if the bench is week?

I may spread my money to have a stronger bench with a premium keeper and other better DGW players and pay for it by having cheaper mids in lieu of Hazard, Alli to Erik etc.

I think if you are organising everything for a BB then maybe you need a strong bench?

Well I don't think the bench is that weak. Southampton will be playing a ton of games around that period, so it's not unlikely for them to fail to score against Boro, who are pretty strong defensively in home games. Tom Davies gets most of his returns in home games, and Everton - Watford could be a game where Everton score a lot of goals. Yoshida could probably end up with a CS against Boro as well.

Having said that, if Ben Davies is no longer nailed on by that point, I could downgrade him for someone like Holgate and that would allow me to strengthen my bench.

If you were to save your TC for DGW 37, who would you use it on?

I think Kane vs MUN & lei could be a good option. He'll be fighting for the Golden Boot and Leicester will probably have nothing to play for.

Chelsea have a good set of fixtures, but they may have won the league by then so they might rotate a lot.

As for City vs Leicester & WBA at home... that looks very enticing, but I hope Pep doesn't go crazy on the rotation.

The beauty of it all is that there are BB choices and TC choices. I have used my TC so will BB 37, but if I still had my TC I would be seriously considering using it in GW37 and having non playing 4 mill fodder on the bench from my GW36 WC

I already used my WC in 31 and it has worked out so far. I think I'll stockpile on FT going into DGW 37 so I can strengthen my bench, so now it's just a case of deciding on who to TC.

It's either Ibra vs bur, mci (DGW 34) or Lukaku vs BUR (GW 33) for me. Kane vs BOU (GW 33) could also have high returns but he might be subbed off early to protect him for the upcoming FA Cup SF vs Chelsea. Who do you think will score more points, Ibra in DGW 34 or Lukaku in GW 33?

My plan is to hold this week, bring in Zaha and Townsend for tee alongside Ibra(c) for DGW34. Maybe a hit for a boro defender I'm not sure,..?

He does less well away from home, so only the Swansea game is really promising (if that continues). There may be better options in 37 with two fixtures

                          I personally would do:

I have olsson and a big waste of time. Ward could reward this week gw 35 and the double between

Thanks! I will need some Chelsea defence for 37 but I have some time and transfers for that. I like Mawson's goal threat, but Swansea prospects of staying up look awful so getting him out is not a problem. I do have exact money for Ward, will think about it.

Not to sure about wildcarding yet. This is my team right now.

                            Pickford - Grant
                            Alonso - Lovren - Holebas - Mawson - Evans
                            Hazard - Eriksen - Siggurdson - Son - Fletcher
                            Costa - Lukaku - Carroll.

Typing this, wildcarding seems to be a good option.

If you have used your TC already, is it best to use WC in GW 35 or GW 36?

Leaning towards GW 36 as to avoid injuries + get a better picture of form and rotation risk.

Depends how your team looks for GW35 but its not a great GW. Players that you need for GW34 like Ibra, Man U def, Palace players are all good for GW35 as well. I'll probably wait till GW36 to wildcard but obviously will just decide at the time

If you are tripling up on Man U for GW34, Man U have by far the best looking fixture in GW35 (Swansea home) out of everyone as well, so a GW36 WC may well work out better.
