Ibrahimovic Suffers Knee Injury

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has tonight suffered a knee injury which saw him hobble from the field in Manchester United’s Europa League victory over Anderlecht.

The striker fell awkwardly when leaping for a cross, appearing to hyperextend his knee joint. A stretcher was called, although the striker chose instead to make his own way from the field with the help of medical staff.

United also lost defender Marcos Rojo to injury in the same match on 23 minutes – also to a knee injury – with the Argentine now another major concern for Gameweek 34.

Post-match, Jose Mourinho was not keen to commit his views on both setbacks…

“I don’t think they’re easy injuries but I prefer to wait until all the tests are done”

However, when asked if he hoped the initial prognosis was “fairly positive” he replied “fairly negative” and confirmed them as likely bad injuries.

Further quotes then surfaced from Mourinho’s post-match press conference…

“My feeling is not good for both. I want to be optimistic but I’m not.”

Ibrahimovic has been the top attraction in the Fantasy Premier League transfer market ahead of United’s double Gameweek fixtures at Burnley and Manchester City – more than 89,000 had swooped early ahead of Saturday’s deadline to secure his services. His participation in those fixtures, and perhaps the season run-in, must now be in doubt.

The Swede’s absence paves the way for Marcus Rashford to maintain his recent run of form and step up. The 6.5 FPL option again put in a sparkling display and has now scored three goals in his last three outings in all competitions having struck United’s extra-time winner against the Belgians.

Rashford had already been brought in by 58,000+ ahead of United’s two fixtures, although there will be some concerns that he may be subject to a rest in the first fixture at Burnley on Sunday; the 19-year-old played 120 minutes and would perhaps need to be preserved for the City clash. Wayne Rooney, who returned to the bench for Thursday’s tie, could now be a factor at Turf Moor at least.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Interesting article on Zlatan injury. Perhaps the injury isn't so bad.

Just because he's walking around doesn't mean it's alright. I picked up a similar knee injury a year back, was able to walk the next day but haven't been able to play since then. Not saying he'll be out for a year, but he surely wouldn't recover for the weekend game.

So here I am, 1FT and 2.9 ITB and WC 35

    Grant
    Alonso Valencia Holebas
    Sanchez Coutinho Zaha DeRoon
    Lukaku Ibra Llorente

    (Pickford Lanzini Cedric Amat)

    A) Ibra to Rashford/Negredo/Benteke
    B) Llorente for Rashford/Negredo/Benteke
    C) A & B -4
    D) Do something with defense

A with Benteke or Negredo in my opinion.

C could work but don't know who you would bench. Do you have AoA left?

Rashford could do very well but the reason I'm not getting him is there's too many doubts (played 120 mins, young, more focus on EL, they could play Rooney up top though unlikely)

I can't decide between Zaha and Townsend...

Both have had 2 goals and 3 assists in their last 3. I'll throw in a few stats:

    Shots/90 mins: Zaha 2.6, Townsend 2.0
    Key Passes/90 mins: Zaha 1.9, Townsend 2.7

Looks like Townsend's more likely to pick up an assist and Zaha more likely to score.
Also note, Zaha takes more of his shots inside the box compared to Townsend which is a bonus but Townsend took some corners on the weekend I believe.

Will you watch the game? If yes, then Zaha. He is more exciting to watch 😛

Point-wise, its likely to be close, so I wouldnt bother and just pick any of them.

      I prefer Townsend. Think of

      Baines vs Coleman
      Brunt vs McAuley
      Eriksen vs Alli
      Sterling vs Sané

The latter has proved the better pick over the long run each time.

Zaha vs Townsend will end up the same I feel

Coleman, McAuley, Alli and Sané gave have all turned out to be the enter long term picks. When the debates each first arose, Baines, Eriksen, Brunt and Sterling were all being bigged up alot more than their opponent.

Similarly here, most people are talking up Zaha and not many mentioning Townsend. I think Townsend will prove the better pick over the run in. Creates more chances and get more BPS and is on some set pieces.

    Valdes / Pickford
    Valencia Chambers Vertonghan Mustafi Yoshida
    Sanchez Alli Zaha Sterling JWP
    Kane Benteke Ibra

    a) Ibra > Negrado

cool beans. Really annoying that it's strikers again. So few good options.

Another option could be Ibra to Lukaku (keep for rest of the season, good SGW player to have in 37, WAT at home) and that gives me 0.2 leeway to do Benteke > Jesus. I would be happy to do that in 35 when Benteke has BUR and Jesus has mid.

That would leave me Kane Lukaku Jesus for the rest of the season

DeGea is nailed yes. Always plays league games.

6ptr most likely against Burnley and 2 pts against City.

Hennesy is the braver pick, has a higher ceiling but it will be close.

If United concede to Burnley (which could easily happen) then Hennesy will have been the better pick due to Sav save pts he will inevitably accure.

Alaya should stay CB imo. I would get but Gibson safer pick

Barragan not nailed. Gibson is. Ayala may stay at CB and Chambers FB then there's Friend and Fabio supposed to be ok now. 3 or 4 at the back and Barragan could be in neither

CPL: Whole team looks nailed on except question mark on if PvA comes back
      MID: Gibson, Negredo

Any Arsenal or Southampton player gonna play four games in two weeks, at this stage of the season? They should be able to but can't see it myself.....

Foster and Cech maybe? Caceres will surely make an appearance at some point, especially since Southampton are on holidays and haven't much to play for

    Heaton > DDG (-4) done.

Sets me up well for next week and allows me to take a punt with FT before WC in 36... 🙂

Personally think that was a bad move. United will have trouble scoring at Turf Moore. Burnley will feel like they can win this game, United are tired and a clean sheet will be central to Burnleys game plan.

Heaton could bag another 11ptr this weekend.

Just thinking this myself... DDG didn't play but Bailly and the backs should be tired and DDG will get shelled

    Hi.
Vardy + Brunt -> Kane + Gibson would leave me this. GTG?

    Pickford
    Alonso, Valencia, Walker, Gibson
    Sanchez, Alli, Firmino, Zaha
    Lukaku, Kane

    Grant, Anichebe, Lanzini, Holebas

    Hennessey (Jaku)
    Barragan Valencia Davies (Stephens, Love)
    Sanchez Alli Sane Zaha (King)
    Kane Luka Ibra

My week was looking sweet with 5 DGWs now its looking like a headache, barragan likely none starter and Ibra injured....question

    A) Ibra > Negredo (-4)
    B) Ibra > King (352 formation)

    1. Pep says

        Logic

        A) Kane (C) + King points =
        B) Kane + Negredo (C) - 4 =

not sure what is the better pick

I would definitely play Alonso ahead of him. Chelsea might even keep a cleansheet for once!
I think Valencia gets one game and that is City away.

Those with no FT's and Ibra simply moving him to Benteke for a hit?

My alternatives aren't great in Holgate, T Caroll or Yoshida.

Have Marcus Rojo looks like I'll have to do Rojo ➡️ Bailly & forget about bringing in Ibra for Aguero.

Nah he would of still played 1/2 games but it looks very much doubtful now anyway back to the drawing board for me.

I brought in Kane for Aguerro and captained the week Aguerro got a red card.

Brought in Kane for Ibra and captained the week Ibra got 0pts and an injury 4 days later.

Not only has Kane been a great player in my team this season, he's been my best transfer in.... TWICE!!!

      Kane, the saviour!!!

I can think of atleast three GWs where he gave me a decent rank in otherwise abysmal GWs for other top assets, including last GW.
