The ScoutCast – Episode 227 – Lift Off

An unprecedented summer podcast arrives following the Fantasy Premier League launch, as Jonty, Andy and Luke join me in the afterglow of a joyous day.

Technically “on the beach” and fighting back to full fitness, we nonetheless brave the airwaves to chime in on the price list, reclassified players and some early formation dancing.

We glory in the potential bargains, lament the overpriced and make bold claims on our lineups that will doubtless be reversed come August 11. If Andy has Chris Brunt in his Gameweek 1 squad, I’ll eat my Free Hit chip.

The FPL Draft game gets a rinsing, and we end the show with our proud declaration of our team ID’s. A conclusion that leaves me feeling rather inadequate even before a ball has been kicked.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Wednesday night. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

If you’re a traditional type, you can acquire the mp3 audio version via this link on the first player below, or take in the full visual experience via the second player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      Cedric > Bertrand IMO
I don't like the Tadic Pick
Would rather go for a cheaper third striker > Benteke and then strengthen Defence

      Better!!! Tadic still a problem.

Count up Saints goals last Season. Won't take you long. 😉

Your defence is still crap. 😀

We can confirm that Gylfi Sigurdsson will not travel with the squad for our pre-season tour of the USA. https://t.co/8qgAQewUG3

Having played v Barnet last night, Gylfi did not feel in the right frame of mind to travel due to the current uncertainty over his future.

    Peniciled in after IB2?

As with all things Everton, its best to wait until then. Can make a proper judgement over who is even the main attacking threat then.

Yep, Sandro or Rooney and Klassen or Siggy - lots depends on Koeman's approach to the UEL, it sounds like he's really going for that this year and that could strongly impact our interest in EVE generally imo

I think 8.5 is too much. He's actually worth more as a big fish in a small Welsh pond than a normal sized fish in an Everton sized pond.

    A)
    Heaton/Foster
    Lindelof, Trippier, Cedric, Francis, Hunemeier
    KDB, Coutinho, Philips, Stanislas, RLC
    Kane, Aguero, Deeney

    or

    B)
    Heaton/Foster
    Lindelof, Trippier, Cedric, MONREAL, Hunemeier
    KDB, Coutinho, Philips, Stanislas, RLC
    Kane, JESUS, Deeney

    Which one?

    Just messing around with this.
I never plan to but always end up WC in about week 4/5 so thinking why not just embrace that?

    Foster
    Cedric Lindelof Tomkins
    Ozil Pedro Sane Tadic
    Lukaku Kane JRod

    Myhill/ Lofus/ Lowe/ 4.0 def 1M ITB

Ozil the big? easy to ramsey if pre season doing well
JRod also big ? Just based on fixtures.
1M ITB so could make Tomkins to Tripper/ any 5.5 or spend on Jrod
No real capt choice in mid but think im ok with Kane and Luk.

    Any thoughts welcome

Zouma at Stoke would be very interesting, likewise Wimmer at Southampton

      1. Andy_Social

But Zouma's 5.5m. Too pricey for Stoke. Might make cheaper Stoke defenders and Butland more viable.

    Bottomed

    I've nailed it.

    Foster Elliot
    Lindelof Cedric Francis Lascelles Rangel
    Alli Zaha Redmond willian Carroll
    Lukaku Aguero Lacazette

My only Choice would be Alli/Aguero or Kane/Sane and have gone with the first option, thoughts?

Yeah... That's a concern but I think Sanchez lost in value since Lacazette joined. And for Laca/Ozil/Ramsey, it is wait and see for me. If one of them shows good form early on, i still have time to change.

true, but then he was the only source of goals there. Don't see the same happening at Bournemouth, so for me, he's not worth 8m.

            That's great for 8.0.

Also he's not the sort of player you have long term. Keep him while on form - ditch if not. So the goals you get while he's in your team are worth far more.

Not sure if Lindelof will be as nailed as people seem to think but I guess pre-season will indicate.

I am going with two 4.0 defs, one is Rangel.

who is more nailed in Brighton: Hunemeier or Rosenior?
also would appreciate any advice on Huddersfield defenders, there are three 4.0, they have good starting fixtures. Is there any guaranteed starter?

    A decent squad?

    Forster / Foster

    Monreal / McAuley / Cedric / Lindelof / Daniels

    Pogba / Alli / Ramsey / Phillips / Ruben

    Lukaku / Aguero / Austin

2 playable keepers, 5 viable defenders, 4 mids and 3 forwards. RLC is the obvs bench fodder.

I see so much hype around zaha, but no one considering Townsend? At 6.0 he could be an interesting differential, was pushing zaha for points end of last season. Owned by 2.5% comparex to zaha's 21% so far...

Did not see that tbf! Could be a great option. I went Tadic because I couldn't afford Zaha but may get Townsend now

    I don't see why more people don't play 5-2-3:

It allows for 4+ 5.5 defenders
Allows for one premium and one 7mil range midfielder
Allows for the big 3 upfront

Midfield is such a high value spot in today's FPL - I'd rather swing towards having more MF's in a 3-5-2 than fewer in a 5-2-3.

      1. F4L
        • 9 Years

but then you would have to use 2-3 sub 7 mil mids; I cant see any decent options at that price range; once they emerge i'll change formation

Actually my Plan B has 4 7-9m midfielders and 3 heavies up front in a 3-4-3.

Cos statistically mids score the most points of all in game players. And the difference in points scored between premium defenders and 4.5-5 is much less than between low priced mid/premium priced mids

Who would you bet on scoring more points this season out of:

    Gayle vs Milner
    Knockeart vs Milner

My turn maybe? Here's my team as it stands as per the pod last night:

    Foster / Myhill
Bertie Dawson Hefele / Dunk 4.0 (will be the lowest owned 4.0 at deadline)
    Kdb Mane Willian Tadic Ritchie
    Kane Kaku / Hemed

I just love the value here at the moment, only thing giving me pause for thought are the two 4.5s, I think I put them in just as a last minute thing and tried to defend them but I think probably they will change, am considering swapping them both over to just non-rotating 4.5s or maybe going for a 5.0 / 4.0 4.0 and throwing caution to the wind! Fabianski v Foster I'm still mulling over with Dawson also at the back. Also Hemed not starting potentially is something I need to ponder, but bench fodder anyway.

    Thoughts? Mad? Good? Value?

    Any replies appreciated!

Well, you have got 4 captains. Excellent.

      Now ...

Goalies - is that a policy decision? Foster & Heaton - clean sheetmakers of Jermyn Street! 😉 Gives you:

      WBA/BUR: BOU 182 . WBA 62 . STK 211 . CPL 109 . WHM 102 . HUD 165 . WAT 330

KDB - is he value for money, or is he weakening your defence?

Bertrand. Count the Saints goals - it won't take long. 😉
      Cedric?

Thanks for the comment as always Doos, top man!

        1) Haha I really don't like rotating keepers and the fact it's provokes some noted dullards is a nice little byproduct for light FFS/Twitter banter. I launch into an impassioned defence on the pod but, TL;DR, I hate benched points and I think at 4.5/5.0 these guys aren't assured of clean sheets really, the ceiling is so low for points that it's basically like you know what, I like to fire and forget and push the points up the pitch

        2) KdB is value for money if he continues with his electric form from the end of last season - he would've got 199 points x2 (was on for it in the first season before injury) and he's been given a downgrade in price from 10.5 to 10.0, in my view he's the main man there for Pep and I like him, though I take your point and am looking at Sane.

        3) Bertrand, yes. Our article on Southampton by Prokoptas pointed out that Saints had a horrific goal conversion rate last year (7.5%, equal to Sunderland) where the average was 10.7%, they got 11.4% in 15/16, so Bertie's creativity stat in particular I like there if they can sort it out, plus the opening fixtures. A bit of a gamble to some extent and will be watching pre season.

Alternative is to go Sane from KdB (decent PPG last season, Sane, would've gotten top 30 mids I think if he played all 38) and then redistribute the funds. Not finished yet!

      Is it a 352? Don't like it.

      Your 3rd/4th defender scares me
Willian isn't nailed and Tadic + Ritchie won't be prolific.

      1. Individual
        • 10 Years

Thanks Andy! Yes it's a 3-5-2, the 3/4 does scare me too so I will probably revisit.

Willian I think will take the creative burden from Hazard, tho I'm aware I'm punting

For value, Tadic and Ritchie I think could score well relative to their price tags, especially Tadic - 1111 for creativity is higher than the likes of Mane and Alli. If Saints sort out their goal conversion % it could be something to watch imo.
