The Numbers Game – Manchester City

Next up in our summer series of team-by-team analysis of the 2016/17 campaign are Manchester City.

We start by checking out the team performance levels over the previous campaign to look for any trends of improvement before assessing the Citizens’ standout individuals ahead of the 2017/18 season.

The arrival of Pep Guardiola helped the Etihad side up their points total from 66 to 78 last term, yet they finished some 15 points off the summit for the second successive campaign, claiming third position in the Spaniard’s first year in charge.

City also improved their goal tally, from 71 to 80, which was again the third best on offer, six behind Spurs at the summit.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Why did Blind only make 23 league appearances last season? Injury or out of favour? Basically is it worth saving 0.5m by having him instead of Bailly

if you want the double get DDG with Bailly. there will likely be a bit of rotation for united with so many options.

if you must then Valencia has to be one of them. Then bailly. the rest simply aren't nailed.

Courtois and DDG won't earn you many save points or baps. Not really the best value, imo.

This. I tried 5.5 keepers last year. Not worth the bother. There's a few decent 4.5 keepers

I think we should have a good idea by the end of pre-season. Ought to be Valencia, Bailly, Lindelof with a vacancy at LB.

He's simply a squad player. Wont be nailed at any point for United imo.
Could get a run with Young and Shaw out, but assume Mou will favor Darmian at LB.

He's basically a filler. Played a bit when Rojo was crocked, now filling in at LB as Shaw is out. He's never really nailed on though.

I'm guessing Swansea play two up front next season and Llorente/Ayew/Abraham will be rotated. But because Llorente is injured, Abraham would be essentially guaranteed games at least at the start of the season

    Opinions on -

    Foster
    Cedric Daniels Lindelof
    Alli Willian Redmond RLC
    Kane Lukaku Lacazette

    Fabianski (Switch w/ Foster)
    Mee/Dunk (Switch w/ Daniels/RLC)
    Carroll (As above).

I did have Coutinho and Benteke instead of Kane and RLC?

I like. Have a very similar team at the moment, but with a bit more invested in defence. Planning to rotate between RLC and Mee. Think big 3 up front is the way to go.

      Foster - Elliot
      Kolasinac - Bertrand - Trippier - Mee - Rosenior
      Coutinho - Willian - Tadic - RLC - Carroll
      Kane - Lukaku - Lacazette

    Foster .......(Myhill)
Trippier - Milner - Nacho - Lindelof......... (Rangel)
    Townsend - Mhki - Willian......(Loftus)
    Kaku - Kane - Jesus

    GK - Foster (Myhill)
DEF - Lindelof, Trippier, Cedric (Daniels, Hunemeier)
MID - Mane, Alli, Pedro, Tadic (Loftus-Cheek)
    FWD - Lukaku, Lacazette, Gayle

So following on from last page about cheap strikers all being unlikely to start ...

What sort of number are people actually aiming for squad wise in real terms?

    Like, if you have a 4.0 keeper, a 4.0 defender and a 4.5 striker, you're playing with a 12 man squad.

Does no one bother about fielding 10 men sometimes or price drops?

    1. Boris Bodega

      15 man squad

      1. Sánchez

        6 years, 11 months ago

I've always done this too. 2x4.5 keepers, 4.5 mid and 3x4.5 defenders that I rotate.

It costs a bit more but to me it gives good flexibility week to week and ensures 11 play.

But then, I've yet to win FPL

At the same prices, I'd go

      Trippier, Ake, Cedric, Maybe Mee
      Salah, Eriksen, Sane, Ramsey

Mee looks pretty suspect to be honest. Maybe you could also downgrade Willian to Redmond/Tadic to upgrade him?

I guess it's worth it for you to get Kane and Lukaku, but for me it's not :/

Thanks - definitely interested in Salah. Will be watching him closely in pre-season and an easy switch from Coutinho.

Mee is a little dodgy - but does rotate well with Palace. If RLC, looks good, I can do a 442/352 hybrid.

I hope Ramsey does prove himself over pre-season. But currently Willian has the edge for me.
