The Numbers Game – Manchester City

Next up in our summer series of team-by-team analysis of the 2016/17 campaign are Manchester City.

We start by checking out the team performance levels over the previous campaign to look for any trends of improvement before assessing the Citizens’ standout individuals ahead of the 2017/18 season.

The arrival of Pep Guardiola helped the Etihad side up their points total from 66 to 78 last term, yet they finished some 15 points off the summit for the second successive campaign, claiming third position in the Spaniard’s first year in charge.

City also improved their goal tally, from 71 to 80, which was again the third best on offer, six behind Spurs at the summit.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

What's the craic with FPL adding players? I.E. Watson for Watford played last season, is playing right now in CDM but isn't in the game......

      Tadic over Redmond?
With Austin back and Gabbi around I think Tadic will see more assists and Redmond won't be playing as far forward as he did last season.

after all the tinkering one thing I am sure is defence. Foster and Myhill in the goal, I will play WC in GW4-5 anyway. And hate template defs - specially Cedric, also doubt I will have Daniels, maybe Trippier. I want Milner, looks best pool coverage to me. As to front line Aguero to Chelsea would change everything. So I am taking a break)))

    Latest draft...

    Foster // Myhill

    Lindelöf // Trippier // Cédric // Mee // Hünemeier

    Alli // Mané // Ramsey // Phillips // Carroll

    Lukaku // Kane // Gayle

I've been covetously glancing Alonso and Milner's way but the potential incomings of Sandro & Robertson are giving me cold feet.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Reading about Warren Buffett's favourite books and an investing quote came up that could be made for FPL:

'1. Remember reversion to the mean. What's hot today isn't likely to be hot tomorrow. The stock market reverts to fundamental returns over the long run. Don't follow the herd.

    2. Time is your friend, impulse is your enemy. Take advantage of compound interest and don't be captivated by the siren song of the market. That only seduces you into buying after stocks have soared and selling after they plunge'

Any thoughts on Ozil? I quite like the balance of this:

    Foster

    Cedric - Dawson - Ake

    Sane - Ozil - Willian - Tadic

    Defoe - Lukaku - Kane
    ----------------------------------
    4.0 - 4.5 - 4.5 - 4.0

Ramsey still a bit too punty for me at this stage.

Maybe it's just me but I like Ozil too this season and not sure why but I can't see Tott scoring like they did last year.
I wouldn't go double Spurs attack esp with early fixture list. They are slow out the blocks. Chelsea and City are the early season goal scorers.

Why are WBA attackers so ignored here?

They were also Pulis' attackers last season, but that didn't stop them to score well and constantly.

Phillips is in my team since 1st draft and I think he is the one I am definitely starting with. But Chadli, Brunt and Rondon/JRod can be great options as well. Great fixtures are also plus.

    1. Wild Rover

Philips was far from consistent later in the season, Chadli will be sold, Brunt will be POO, JRod will be injured
