Fantasy Bundesliga Game

The second season of the official Fantasy Bundesliga game is here and is available in both English and German.

The first season was a lot of fun and we had a few Fantasy Football Scout regulars posters playing but no official league. This season I hope we can step up the community’s involvement and have created a FFS League (Password – FFS).

The concept and rules are very different to the Fantasy Premier League game, so if you are interested in playing I would recommend having a proper look-through. Statistics are a big part of the game so it suits the keen Fantasy player well.

The season will run from 18th August to 12th May over 34 gameweeks. The first deadline is kick off of the opening game on Friday night, August 18th 19:30 UK time.

Rules and Scoring points

-150 million budget to pick 15 players
-No limit on how many players you can have from one team.
-Three transfers between gameweeks. When planning your transfers try to make sure you have as many different kick-off times over a gameweek covered to maximize points potential.
-There are set wildcard weeks (we are not told exactly when) which were last year one of the international breaks in the autumn and the winter break.
-The transfer market is locked when the gameweek starts and opens again after the round is completed with player prices adjusted according to player performance.
-Captaincy has been replaced this year by a star player system. You pick one star forward, midfielder and defender who score 1,5x points.
-Manual substitutions during the gameweek (like in UEFA-games)
-You can replace a player in your starting xi with someone who is yet to play but you lose the points you sub out. You can also change your star player until you are happy with your score or run out of players in that position.
-Multiple ways of scoring points, not just goals, assists and clean sheets.
-If you want to do well in the game you need to understand the importance of duels won. See more here and here.

Selecting your squad

When picking your team you need to decide whether you are putting your budget to your starting xi or utilizing manual subs with more width. All of last year’s bargains have been bumped up in price so we need new ones and they usually introduce themselves when the season gets going, not before. This is why it may be smart to start with 12-13 strong starters and a couple of one million priced bench fodders.

Goalkeepers

Most important thing when picking goalies is that they keep a clean sheet as that gives you five points and every goal conceded loses one point. As every shot saved earns you a point save machines can also be beneficial, however, you want to avoid a scenario where your keeper’s team loses big and you are quickly looking at minus points.

Bayern’s Manuel Neuer (15m) is the most expensive keeper and (depending on his fitness) many will favor him and a fodder for reliable points. Good mid-priced keepers include Oliver Baumann (12m, Hoffenheim) and Rune Jarstein (11m, Hertha). Cheapest rotation pairs set you back 13-15m but for this to work your keepers need to play at different times and this is not the case in GW1 (Hannover/Mainz/HSV/Werder).

Defenders

You want defenders who win a lot of duels consistently every week. That way you have a solid base score even if your defender concedes or doesn’t get any attacking returns. Initially, you might look at someone like David Alaba (13m, Bayern) as one of the best defenders to pick, but even though he got four goals, four assists and a good amount of clean sheets last season, he wasn’t actually as good of a pick as on paper. That is because he didn’t earn many duel points.

Tried and trusted premium defender targets include Willi Orban (14m, RB), Benjamin Hübner (14m, Hoffenheim) and Werder’s very attacking wingback Theodor Gebre Selassie (13m). For a bit cheaper you could be looking at “Augsburg’s Roberto Carlos” Konstantinos Stafylidis (12m), Freiburg’s Caglar Söyüncü (11m) and a cheaper alternative to other Köln defenders Lukas Klünter (9m). Luca Caldirola (Werder, 5m) looks like the best cheap option right now, but when first team players get injured other names will come in to play too.

Midfielders

With midfielders, you are looking at wingers and attacking mids who are able to score and assist goals. In this game, you can also target box-to-box mids who are good going forward and do their defensive duties picking up a handful of duel points in the process.

There are several intriguing premium midfielders. Liverpool target Naby Keita (15m, RB) who bosses the midfield, Bayern duo Thiago (15m) and Arjen Robben (14m), not forgetting BVB’s tricky winger Ousmane Dembele (14m). Going down to 13m you find two set-piece takers in Vincenzo Grifo (M’gladbach) and Werder’s captain Zlatko Junuzovic.

At 11m there is a potential out of position player in Werder’s Fin Bartels, who finished last season strongly playing as a striker. For 10m you can invest in Köln’s Marcel Risse, who did well last season before suffering a knee injury.

Yevhen Konoplyanka (7m, Schalke) has suffered a big price drop because he was out of favor with S04’s previous manager but could emerge as a budget pick with a new man in charge.

Forwards

Goals are expected from your forwards, but also keep in mind that a striker winning regularly 15+ duels in a game will outscore a striker who scores a single goal but doesn’t do much else.

Bayern’s Robert Lewandowski (15m) is the only essential player in the game. BVB’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (15m) is close to that, but the lack of duel points last season means he just falls short. He is still, of course, an excellent pick and second name in most team sheets. With that being the case it mainly comes down to the third man in our forward line.

This third slot could be the one where you really play the fixtures. Almost everyone priced at 13m+ is a good pick with a few unknowns in the mix.

At 11m Nils Petersen (Freiburg) and Guido Burgstaller (Schalke) offer two solid cheaper alternatives. 19-year old Kaylen Hinds (5m, Wolfsburg) came from Arsenal this summer and has done well in pre-season, but it remains to be seen if he or any other cheap option can provide a bargain for our forward lines.

Additional Information

The week before the season starts all teams will be playing in the DFB-Pokal, German Cup, which gives a good indication into the starting lineups.

There is a learning curve to this game with a lot of stats based scoring rules so even if it initially might look hard, after a few weeks you’ll start to get the hang of it.

The game also hasn’t done any favors to new players by not including last seasons statistics. I don’t have much saved but will try to help from memory if there are any questions.

Some extra info as I didn't want to make the article too long:

The importance of your players earning duel points was covered several times so here is more on that. Listed below are some of the duel kings from last season who played a lot and were consistent. Don’t have exact numbers for some but know they were up there also. With these players, you basically started with a good base score even before the ball was kicked because you knew in most games they would win around 10 duels. And you can also see that they’re all fairly expensive because of these stats from last season. I’m sure a few of these won't do as well and new options will also emerge.

    GS = games started
    DP = duel points
DPPG = duel points per game

Defenders (3 points every 5 duels won):
    Hübner (14m, Hoffenheim) 25 GS / 141 DP = 5,6 DPPG
    Orban (14m, RB) 28 GS / 144 DP = 5,1 DPPG
    Hector (15m, Köln) 33 GS / 168 DP = 5,1 DPPG
    Sokratis (15m, BVB) 26 GS / 132 DP = 5,1 DPPG
    Sörensen (14m, Köln) 30 GS / 150 DP = 5 DPPG
    Gebre Selassie (13m, Werder) 26 GS / 126 DP = 4,8 DPPG
    Halstenberg (14m, RB) 30 GS / 141 DP = 4,7 DPPG
    Oczipka (13m, Schalke) 33 GS / 129 DP = 3,9 DPPG
    Henrichs (13m, Leverkusen)
    Söyüncü (11m, Freiburg)

Midfielders (2 points every 5 duels won):
    Keita (15m, RB) 29 GS / 126 DP = 4,3 DPPG
    Thiago (15m, Bayern) 26 GS / 112 DP = 4,3 DPPG
    Demme (13m, RB) 32 GS / 126 DP = 3,9 DPPG
    Leckie (11m, Hertha)

Strikers (2 points every 5 duels won):
    Wagner (14m, Hoffenheim) 30 GS / 106 DP = 3,5 DPPG
    Ibisevic 14m, Hertha) 32 GS / 108 DP = 3,4 DPPG
    Cordoba (13m, Köln)

Couple mentioned in the article but here are a few more.

Cheap defenders who have seen a lot of game time in pre-season so far:
      Ordonez (5m, Eintracht)
      Felipe (5m, Hannover)
      Kaminski (6m, Stuttgart)

At Augsburg, Verhaegh looks to be signing for Wolfsburg so that should make Opare at 4m their number one RB.

At Dortmund, both LB's Guerreiro (longer term) and Schmelzer are injured. Zagadou at 5m is one of the options that could start, but that depends whether Schmelzer recovers and how Zagadou as a youngster plays if he gets the chance.

Mids, it just looks very ugly for my eye. I’m just seeing some random youngsters, promoted players I don’t really know and defensive mids who got no points last year.

Ntep (7m, Wolfsburg) has potential but as of know, I wouldn’t bet on him starting.

In the article, I mentioned that on the same weekend as PL starts all German teams will be playing in the cup and that is their final match before the season starts so strong lineups are expected.
This weekend Germany also have their own community shield, Dortmund v Bayern, which will see the best players available. These games will tell a lot more than friendlies where managers are trying to give everyone game time. Whether Neuer makes the start of the season remains to be seen, Ulreich at 6m even for a very short time (with three transfers every week) would help a lot.

I'm German and I play this and another fantasy game about the Bundesliga. Here are my views on some cheap midfielders:

Sahin (5m, Dortmund) - Weigl and Guerreiro, who usually play CDM, are injured long-term. Sahin didn't play a huge part under Tuchel, but the new manager Bosz has played him a lot in pre-season and praised him for his performances. For the first few weeks at least, Sahin will be nailed on. He will almost definitely increase in value, don't expect many attacking returns from him though.

Caiuby (6m, Augsburg) - potential OOP option. Usually operates as winger but occasionally plays centre forward, too. Missed most of last season due to injury, hence the low price. Expected to nail down a spot in the starting eleven now that he has recovered. Should have a few goals and assists in him, so I consider him good value.

Personally, I have these two players in my team. Other viable options are:

Benes (5m, M'Gladbach) and Serdar (5m, Mainz) are young central midfielders that are expected to feature regularly this season.
Kamada (5m, Frankfurt) is a 20 year old attacking midfielder that arrived from Japan this summer. Has impressed in pre-season but might take time to adapt.
Duda (4m, Hertha) was Hertha's major transfer last summer. A playmaker that only made three appearances last season due to a knee injury. Could be a steal if he nails down a regular role.
Holtmann (5m, Mainz) is listed as a mid but has been played as wing-back during pre-season and been praised a lot by the manager.

Bayern beat Dortmund on penalties in the Supercup after 2-2 in normal time. Pulisic, Lewandowski (Kimmich), Aubameyang (Dembele) and own goal. Bayern's pre-season has been very shaky. Neuer is back in training so no cheap way into their defence either. Can see it being like many times last season that they concede one goal very often. A real shame that the game ballsed up Kimmich's classification, will rack up assists and key passes. Dembele-Aubameyang duo will do bits this season, for sure.

        Both, most likely.
I think Lewandowski was on my team for every game last season bar one suspension. He only had one bad run of 4-5 games when people had time to drop him just in time for him to punish with a hat-trick iirc. Aubameyang was there probably 80% of the time, but I know there were some high up in the rankings who didn't have him for longer spells (because of the few duel points mentioned in the article). Lewa was the top scorer but Modeste outscored Auba.
Now it looks more and more likely that Dembele is going to Barca which is a shame for the whole league. Makes Pulisic at 12m a decent alternative. Just worry a bit about BVB generally with Reus and Schürrle always injured, plus a host of other key players.

Some notes from Friday and Saturday cup games:

    Results and lineups here: http://www.flashscore.com/soccer/germany/dfb-pokal/results/

Mönchengladbach: Grifo benched (two games in a row now), avoid.

Leverkusen: Terrible pre-season and if Bayern scores early on Friday it could get messy.

Dortmund: Aubameayng keeps scoring. Dembele suspended and looks a no-go and no sign of Politic either. Sahin is a cheap starting mid but not sure about the points. Cheap defender Zagadou lost LB position to another youngster Beste (not in the game yet).

Mainz: Three wins in a row and good first fixture but no stand out (or cheap) players really.

Köln: Cordoba, who did very well in duels last season, scored from the spot. Striker Guirassy (4m) got 35 minutes and scored also.

Freiburg: Petersen continues his good form. Söyüncü dropped to the bench for a few games now, avoid. Lienhart (6m) started in his place.

Frankfurt: Future of GK Hradecky is still up in the air. Russ (5m) looks the best bet for a cheap defender over previously mentioned Ordonez. 5m midfielder Kamada got his second start in a row after star player Fabian was sidelined for months.

Bayern: Lewandowski scored two, Ribery also 1+1. Robben first minutes of pre-season from the bench. Ulreich still in goal with Neuer recovering. Thiago out with an injury. Fortunately, we’ll have their lineup before the deadline.

Hoffenheim: GK Baumann and defender Hübner weren’t in the squad so need to wait for more news on them.

Werder: Kruse continuing where he left off last season. Previously mentioned cheap option Caldirola doesn’t look like a starter anymore. Bartels not in the squad and no mention of an injury. Junuzovic injured.

Sunday and Monday cup games. Link to lineups and results above.

HSV: Embarrassing loss to a 3rd tier team. Considering how bad HSV was last year their players are priced very highly.

Wolfsburg: 5m striker Hinds got another start on the wing. Tough opening fixture but BVB usually concede.

RB: Played a 6th tier team (I think) so 0-5 wasn’t really surprising. Poulsen got penalty duties after Werner missed and added four assists to that. Upamecano (9m) has partnered Orban for most of the pre-season but got taken off at half time. Klostermann (7m) also looks like the first choice right back but he has competition from Bernardo and Schmitz.

Hannover: Felipe looks to be a starting defender at 5m. Left mid Prib (7m) also looks nailed to me but only scored one goal last season.

Augsburg: After Verhaegh moved to Wolfsburg, it looks like Framberger (5m) is ahead of Opare to take over at right back. A loss to 3. Liga team could mean changes but might be worth the risk. Caiuby and Stafylidis missed the game, not sure why.

Stuttgart: Kaminski and Pavard, both 6m, started as centre backs but the signing of Badstuber (if he is fit, usually he isn’t) could throw one of them out.

Schalke: Konoplyanka (7m) got another start (and scored two), as well as young midfielder McKennie (3m). Goretzka should take McKennie’s place though. Konoplyanka will face competition but should start in the short term with Embolo and Schöpf still recovering.

Hertha: Weiser scored today and did well last year when he wasn’t injured but is hindered by the fact that he has been changed to a midfielder in the game but will still play some games at right back.

In yesterday’s post regarding Hoffenheim, I forgot about the Liverpool game which should explain the absentees in the cup.

I forgot to mention it in the article but you can’t change formation during the gameweek so it isn’t as flexible as Uefa games. This caught me out in the first week of last season.
As every fantasy player knows the first week(s) is a bit random so the main goal is to get decent points on the board and avoid a disaster.

    Current team:

    Adler
    Hübner Orban Felipe
    Keita Robben Ribery Caiuby
    Lewandowski Aubameyang Ibisevic

    Bench: Konoplyanka Russ 1m 1m

Only Lewandowski, Aubameyang, Keita and one of Robbery are over 90% locked in at this point. Two playing subs for now. Most of the last year I had 3-4 playing subs but it’s very difficult with initial pricing. Planning to start with a 343 formation but it definitely isn’t the only one that can do the job.

-Three transfers per week give a bit of flexibility.
-Try to have different kick-off times covered so you can best utilise manual subs and you have options to change your star players if you’re not satisfied with their score.

    Goalkeepers:
-If Ulreich is in goal for Bayern, even for one week, I’ll get him.
-Adler has three good fixtures, to begin with, and after initially drafting in Neuer, maybe the 7m saving could be beneficial before I see how good Bayern are in defence.
    - Your fodder goalie can be more useful than you think. If he plays after your main gk, who has a disaster (with a Mainz keeper, this wouldn’t surprise me either) and gets minus points, you can sub your fodder on for 0 points if his team is yet to play.

    Defenders:
-The new addition of star players means that I’m looking to have at least two premium players who I can trust and who don’t play at the same time.
-Hübner and Orban were excellent last season. Other premiums in consideration are Hummels and Sörensen.
-To complete the defence 2-3 cheap options for budget reasons. Kaminski/Pavard, Framberger and Lienhart are alternatives.

    Midfielders:
-See the first paragraph under defenders.
-If Robben and Ribery both start I might go all-in on Bayern for the first game with question marks over some other expensive mids like Dembele.
-Keita was one of the most reliable picks last season with steady scores most weeks and explosion every now and then.
-For now I have gone with two cheaper mids combining to 13m but depending on the news on Caiuby’s fitness this could change to a fourth premium mid and a fodder.
-I would then get a 10-12m mid like Risse/Leckie/Bartels which would allow me to upgrade my 1m defender to a cheap playing one.

    Forwards:
-Again, see the first paragraph under defenders.
-Lewandowski and Aubameyang, boring but hopefully effective to start with.
-The third striker is giving me a bit of a headache with so many options.
-Ibisevic has a good fixture and can score and win duels so he is the front-runner right now. However, he plays at the same time as Aubameyang so doesn’t offer an extra star alternative which isn’t ideal.
-Like I mentioned in the article there are almost 10 options I’m liking. This is also the reason why I’m not really considering anyone under 12m up front initially.

He did very well in the second half of last season and if he can continue from there he will be a good option. Likes to shoot a lot, and scored some bangers, which is good for fantasy. The only thing he lacked last season was duel points which is why I was surprised he wasn't a few million cheaper. Nagelsmann also isn't afraid to throw in fringe players in a busy schedule so could see some reduced minutes.

Just a word of warning though. I likely have no idea what I'm doing, but I've kept up with the injuries and team news of the Bundesliga division and the DFB Pokal, and have made a recent draft. Could I get a RMT please? 🙂

    Jarstein
    Orban / Vestergaard / Russ

        Thanks. Will do!

I'm a bit worried about Aubameyang's prospects at the start of the season, what with Dortmund's notable absentees (Weigl, Dembele, Guerreiro etc.), but he is certainly a capable striker, and he appears to be fixture proof.

Lewandowski, similar thoughts, although he should receive good support, and he is very proven after all.

Midfielders, I haven't paid much attention to their duel stats. I've elected to focus on their attacking threat.

But with expensive options across most of my team (minus the Goalkeeper) it should be flexible enough to change around if need be. 🙂

Lineup predictions if you scroll down: http://www.bundesliga.com/en/news/ Their success rate isn't perfect and sometimes they're posted without the latest information from pressers. If you want to make sure you're up-to-date then you have to go through club twitter accounts for presser quotes on Thursday and Friday.
-Augsburg coach said Moravek is the only absentee so Caiuby is fit after all.
-Frankfurt has signed CB Falette from Ligue 1 so he or recovering Salcedo is expected to oust Russ soon but hopefully not immediately. They are also close to signing Kevin-Prince Boateng.
-Neuer not risked, Ulreich in goal.
-Some rotation expected in attack for Hoffenheim but I would be surprised if it would be as severe as the site is predicting.

Thanks for the article and comments, I've found it very helpful. Ligainsider.de seems a bit more reliable and up to date on lineups, also has tons of news and stats (but all in German). For one thing they note Schmelzer isn't with Dortmund in Wolfsburg, so Zagadou (5m) is likely to start there this week.

Posting my team, happy to hear any suggestions. Biggest contrarian pick is probably no Aubameyang--from my calculations it seems like Kruse and Müller's per-match numbers were quite close to his last year, but I haven't quite been able to confirm that. Meanwhile on a per-match basis seems like Ribery and Robben blew everyone else out of the water at midfield, and Sahin and (particularly) Caiuby were also quite productive the last time each played a full season (2015/16 for Caiuby, 2013/14 for Sahin)--even at 10M they seem like great options.

      Lewandowski (s), Müller, Kruse

Ribery, Robben (s), Caiuby, Sahin (Keita to be subbed for lowest scorer after the early games on Saturday)

Hübner (s), Zagadou, Felipe (Orban and Klünter with later games, to be subbed for lowest scorers)

      Ulreich (1m dude on bench)

Good site, thanks. Dortmund is a bit all over the place with injuries, Dembele situation and Aubameyang himself flirting with Milan supporters so I can see why. It's easy to get anyone in this game with three transfers and players priced (a bit too) closely.
Zagadou looks quite good for a start with Beste also playing for U19. I would swap Russ for him if I didn't already have three defenders playing at the same time.

    Hello, everyone!

I wanted to have a shot at this game as it looks fun with a different scoring system. I have not been following Bundesliga much in recent years, but I want to start following as I will be moving to München in October. I am open to any suggestions.

    Ulreich
    Hübner - Felipe - Bell (s)
    Robben (s) - Ribery - Nuri - Caiuby
    Lewandowski (s) - Aubameyang - Kramaric

    Bench: 1m - Upamecano - Zagadou - Keita

I'll probably sub in Upamecano and Keita after 15:30 matches on Saturday.

Looks decent. Hoffenheim are a banker at home but there is some rotation risk for Gnabry, Wagner and Kramaric with Szalai and Uth pushing for starts in that front three, risk-reward.

Can anybody describe what a duel is? Tackles, interceptions, clearances, dribbles? What are they?

There are a couple links in the original post that describe what they are. I'm still a bit confused--but it seems possible to get a good (but labor-intensive) approximation by adding up the figures on ligainsider.de for steals, duels won, aerial duels won, and tackles.

      http://www.bundesliga.com/en/news/Bundesliga/noblmd11-blfantasy-the-expert-what-constitutes-a-challenge-won.jsp

In this article: http://www.bundesliga.com/en/news/Bundesliga/noblmdwp-official-fantasy-bundesliga-expert-three-tips-for-assembling-fantasy-squad-429311.jsp there is a picture of the liveticker from last year which updated all stats live during the matches. That link doesn't work so I'm not sure if it's going to be up soon or not.
For now, the stats should update live here: http://www.bundesliga.com/en/bundesliga/matchday/2017-2018/ when the matches start but it's a bit less user-friendly because you have to go to each game individually.

Thanks! Nice to see that dribbles are counted as duels. If Bruma gets nailed on (I guess he's a bench player for now), he'll be a great asset. He had around 5 successful dribbles per 90 last year playing for my team. Also fouled almost twice every game.

I checked Bruma's stats from last season. 2.5 shots, 4.4 dribbles, 1.8 fouled per game. That makes 8.7 duels won per game. I am very hopeful of him.

Correct. I agree with the point but that doesn't mean that it won't translate well to Bundesliga though. Teams are more defensive in Turkey, there is not much space for wingers to dribble. Considering Leipzig's style of play, I think he could have around 3 dribbles this season per90.

I'm a bit confused as to Caiuby's likelihood of starting this week--still not seeing anyone (including ligainsider, which seems quite good and up to date) projecting him for the starting lineup tomorrow. Does anyone think he has a very good chance to start, and if so why?

    Ulreich
    Hubner (s), Felipe, Orban
    Sahin, Ribery(s), Konoplyanka, Keita
    Lewandowski (s) Aubameyang, Petersen
    Baumann, Russ, Ordonez, Kamada

    Thanks, guys

Ordonez isn't a starter anymore. Russ/Kamada both seem like 50/50 to start but there isn't much in their bracket who play on the second day. Lienhart (Freiburg) at 6m is an option.

Baumann starting on the bench. Interesting. You could play him in the first eleven, since Hoffenheim had a great home record last season, and their squad is almost the same as last season. I also can't see Ulreich as anything more than a short term option. And if you were to downgrade Ulrech to a cheap sub Goalie, you could save up some transfer funds. That would let you bring in Neuer, if you wanted to.

      Very good team, otherwise.

    Baumann
    Hubner*, Hector, Lienhart

    Lewandowski*, Aubameyang, Ibisevic
    Bench: Felipe, Kamada, 2x1m

Felipe plays before a few of your other defenders so stick him in and see how he does.

Hector plays on the last game of the weekend so bench him and then see which one of your three defenders have the least points before his game starts on Sunday and put him in.

Also, put the star on your midfielder playing first and then you can change it if he doesn't do well enough.

You need to read the article again. 😀 This is more work than FPL, manual substitutions. You can sub a player in if he hasn't played yet but you lose the points you sub out.

If you have playing subs you will face the tough choice almost weekly of do you switch or do you stick (same thing with star players of course). It's hard to say exactly what score you should stick with, sometimes you make the right choice and sometimes you don't. If you have a cheap 5m defender who you isn't really very reliable you might not switch him in even for 5 points. Then if you have someone like Keita you could put him in even for 9 points, because his base score is a lot higher.

I'm really liking the scoring system of Fantasy Bundesliga so far. It encourages people to carefully study the players' overall performances as opposed to replying on goal involvement to make decisions. It makes the game very interesting.

To me, it boils down to 2 factors whether substituting and switching our star players is worth it:

      1. How are your starting eleven performing compare to their team in a game (e.g. Ribery for Bayern)?
This would help you work out an 'average' of what your player is, or should be, earning.

      2. For star players, do you think your second/third day players will perform better than first day players?
(E.g. Lewandowski on Friday, and Aubameyang on Saturday, both in my first eleven.)

1 for example, Ribery accumulated 8 points for me today. Without goal involvement, thats the same amount of points as Tolisso, Vidal and Rudy earned. Roughly, if your players don't earn the 'average' amount of points in a game, then its worth switching that star player in my opinion. But if your players earn nearly as much as their team's highest scorers in a week, it might be worth keeping that star player for me. Further elaboration in point 2.

2, if you have a player due to play after you initial star player, they'd have to perform considerably better to be worth giving the star to. If you can even predict how well they'll do in the game. Same applies for your substitutes.
Ribery is currently my star player with 12 points. He wasn't involved in any goals, but earned 4 points from duels won. Kalou plays Stuttgart tomorrow. He could score one, yes, and his team may win the match, earning 6 points. But aside from duel and chance creation points, Kalou will earn around the same amount as Ribery, as his earned duel points alone were equivalent to him scoring a goal.
As I haven't looked at many players' duel stats from last season, I can't provide evidence of this, and that may well be the deciding factor.
All of this comes down to prediction of course, but if you could be sure Kalou will perform outstandingly, then he would be worth switching to a star player.

I'll stick with Lowendowski on star player for now, and maybe even Ribery as well. Whatever happens, it'll be a learning curve for me as well. 🙂

Funny I was just going to ask a question about whether I should stick with Ribery as my star midfielder? Is 8 points decent for him considering he got no assists/goals/clean sheet.
I have Keita as well you think he could outscore 8 points?

      1. VS10_

Kos has some good thoughts above. I will stick with Lewandowski.
As for Ribery... this is what you have to get used to weekly. Keita got about 75% of his attacking returns at home last season. On the third post of this article you can also look at duel stats I posted and he averaged over 10 duels per game last season. If it was a decent home game I would definitely switch, now it's a tough decision.
You need to also take into account if you have anyone else you can trust it to before or after Keita. Many have Sahin but I think he is cheap for a reason, defensive but might take some free kicks, so I don't think he is really a star option right now, you just take the points you can get from a 5m player. Konoplyanka plays at the same time as Keita for me so he is ruled out. I could stick it on Leckie first but he is more of a steady scorer (duel points) than explosive.
With many unknowns, I'm inclined to play it safe at this point but it is quite boring and could still change.

    Team is locked in.

Made two more changes today though.

One was Russ out for Willems, the new left back/wing back. A prospect with a great track record of assists, and looks likely to start for Frankfurt on Sunday.
To make this transfer, I downgraded Kraft to a 1 mil keeper. Slight risk, but I have 1 mil left in the bank to upgrade Jarstein to any goalkeeper I want aside from Neuer. Should be flexible enough if anything goes wrong.

    Good luck, everybody. 🙂

Lesson learned: never trust the Sky Sports website with the Bundesliga team news.

They had Felipe confused with another 96 Hannover player Florian Hubner. Thought he wasn't playing, and I subbed him out.
Didn't check another source, unfortunately. 8 points lost to a technical error.
