Dugout Discussion – Southampton vs Newcastle

Gameweek 8 rolls on with an encounter at St Mary’s as Newcastle make the long-trip from Tyneside to take on Southampton.

In Fantasy terms, it’s fair to say that most managers would welcome a goalless draw; in both cases, it’s the defences that boast the greater Fantasy ownership.

Rob Elliot heads into today’s encounter backed by over 1.3 million managers, although 80% of those have chosen to bench the Newcastle keeper. This despite Southampton’s dismal record of scoring in just one of their last nine home matches – a 3-2 win over West Ham United in Gameweek 2.

Chancel Mbemba and Jamaal Lascelles are the other popular assets on show for the Magpies, claiming ownerships of 13.2% and 11.2% respectively. The latter takes his place in central defence alongside the recalled Florian Lejeune, though Mbemba is again out of the matchday squad following recent international exertions with DR Congo.

Further forward, both Matt Ritchie (4.9%) and Christian Atsu (4.2%) are named in Rafa Benitez’s line-up, despite having been withdrawn from their international squads.

For the Saints, Ryan Bertrand (10.9%) and Cedric (9.3%) are their most popular options on show as they go in search of a fourth clean sheet of the season.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Gawd. That's pretty horrid research after all that WC tinkering. Just needed a secure starter to cover GW 9 and 11 for Ward

Ok, that's a more comforting reply.

Seemed a decent enough choice at 4.5. Don't want to waste a transfer on something silly like Clark->Yedlin

Kolasinac to Ward, Salah to 4.5 to upgrade Hemed to Jesus? For an 8 pt hit. Currently playing 352 but after that change could play 433 with a Kane, Lukaku and Jesus frontline.

not worth all the down grades. Watch CL and see what jesus' minutes are like. may not even feature much the weekend if he plays full game CL.
Salah will come good, hes a great player. Kolasinac is at a price you can easily switch to maybe a city defender?

    Eriksen, Sane, Sterling, Tarroll, Carrick
    Kane, Jesus, Batshitcrazy

    1FT, diddly-squat ITB

Considered that but Diouf is 0.3 cheaper, plays for a team that scores more goals, has better fixtures and is nailed for 90 mins while Tammy has Bony to contend with and usually gets hauled early. Thanks for the input though.

Diouf is mainly playing wing back, I don't see why you would want him.

He's still getting plenty of shots away though according to the stats tables. The extra 0.3m is crucial with my team and I don't mind benching a 5.4m player whereas 5.7m irks a little more. You make a valid point though.

Tammy has 2 more goals but Diouf has 2 more assists from 1 match less and tougher opposition. It's a fine margin TBH. Tammy is obviously the better player with a higher ceiling but price, fixtures and game time favour Diouf.

You are totally right and Clement recognised that chances were not being created and changed to 2 wide men rather than a diamond or 3 at the back - I think we may see more goals and less clean sheets from Swansea

3 great options. Richarlison has delivered all season, while Zaha and Stanislas both have pedigree.
History would suggest that Stan breaks down sooner rather than later though, but he is capable of getting 20 points - unlike the other 2 perhaps?

Is your question actually "should I buy Sterling"? In which case you need to list who you'd want to sell. He is clearly not essential, no one are.

      Zero saves, apparently unconvincing.

Can't wait to get Alli out my team!

Looks like he's got a really bad attitude this year.

Same, who you looking to get him out for. A second city midfielder seems obvious but I do fancy Coutinho as a ‘season keeper’

I think i'll probably get Sterling. He's a good option and love how much money it frees up. Means I can get Morata, Aguero, Coutinho in another 1 move upgrade.

Son gets in his way when he plays and Dier passes too slow. Lamela back will make a big difference as he's great at pressing the ball and Alli should profit. Still prefer Eriksen though.

Same. I'm thinking of an early transfer to Silva/sane. I hate looking at my lineup for next week with him in it.

    Fabianski, Elliot
    Alonso, VVD, Mee, Cresswell, Dunk
    Sterling, Ali, Brady, Chipo, RLC
    Jesus, Kane, Vardy

    0.7 itb 1FT

Ali and Brady on the chopping board. Alonso is teetering. Initial thoughts:

    1. Brady > Richarlison
    2. Ali > Coutinho/KDB/Silva
    3. Alonso > Jones or someone else

For a short period - even with reduced mins I would say Agueros 20 goals made him the best city player.

Which transfers do you guys prefer?

    A) Kane --> Aguero (bring back Kane gw11 for Lacazette)
    B) Lacazette + Eriksen --> Aguero + Sterling/other 8.4 mid (-4)
    C) Lacazette --> Morata

    Cheers!
