Dugout Discussion – Newcastle vs Man City

The penultimate match of Gameweek 20 gets underway at this evening as Newcastle United welcome league leaders Manchester City to St James’ Park.

Up against a defence with just a single clean sheet in 15 attempts, Pep Guardiola’s side boast three of the top ten captains for this round of fixtures.

Significantly Sergio Aguero – their most backed armband pick (6.2%) – is again chosen to lead the line and makes his fourth successive Premier League start. Gabriel Jesus warms the bench yet again, then.

Kevin De Bruyne (4.2%) and Raheem Sterling (3.1%) are also handed starts, though both have some way to go to match Harry Kane’s 17-point haul at home to Southampton yesterday.

Nonetheless, the pair arrive on Tyneside in fine form. De Bruyne has three goals and two assists in City’s previous six, with three sets of 10+ points hauls during that run.

Meanwhile, Sterling – the top target in midfield for Gameweek 20, with over 173,00 new owners – has served up 34 points in three, courtesy of three goals and a trio of assists.

David Silva’s ongoing personal issues means he misses out for the second time in three matches, however, with Ilkay Gundogan partnering De Bruyne in the centre of the park in his absence. Leroy Sane is also on the timber despite his early withdrawal against Bournemouth last time out – he’s now started just four of the last seven Gameweeks.

            I disagree with that logic. Doubles are a great opportunity to bring in players with 2 fixtures to increase your odds of points. A free hit and the second wild card will also bring in players which aren’t necessary in your current team structure. I get your point but it’s only 1-2 transfers to get rid and I think the potential prospect of points in a double outweighs

    2 FT and 0.2 ITB. Thinking of doing the meaningless transfer Romeu -> RLC. Thought I'd have 2 FT for next GW when I'll do DCL and Hazard -> Firmino and Arnautovic. Anyone have any better transfer suggestions?

              Not sure I follow. If you have say Kane and arnie on your bench this week and play 11, then buy two dgw players for next GW you'll have 4 players playing 2 games. If you don't have any dgw players on your wildcard and buy two next week you'll only have two dgw players . Therefore you'll have two less matches played with your players than the above

                  Totally agree on being too dgw orientated. But, a wildcard gives you the edge over the rest of us. Example, could have lloris and Elliot. Play Elliot this week, have lloris playing two next week. Personally I think Kane plus 2 or 3 in total, some going 5/6. Arno has good fixtures so he's a good shout I think, and maybe alli who's now pretty cheap and in form. That's 4. Dgw/blank Keeper and Kane and maybe -4 next week for two more, or FT for one extra

      Ok, let’s say he scores 2 in both games, not unreasonable. Including bonus, he would get 13 points per game, 26 points total. If you captain him he gets 52, trip csptain an extra 26 points. That’s it. He has to score 4 goals in 2 games to get extra 26 points, presuming everyone else just captains him.

        However, if you trip captain a player the majority don’t captain, let’s say Gross in a double GW for arguments sake, and he gets a goal in each game, that’s probably 22 points x 3 = 66 points that the majority don’t have and some may have 22 of those points. Less likely but much greater reward.

        Which is the same for all trip captainers, I guess your saying he's so obvious up side is less. However I'd counter with do you want to lose 26 points to half the game?
