Dugout Discussion – Wednesday

The penultimate fixture of the packed festive schedule gets underway at 7.45pm as Arsenal and Chelsea go head-to-head at the Emirates.

For the hosts, Alexis Sanchez has upped his output in recent weeks – after a slow start to the season, last term’s top scoring player in Fantasy Premier League has delivered points in seven of his last 10 league appearances.

That form suggest that the Chilean is likely to pose the main danger to a defence that’s conceded just four times in their previous 11.

Nonetheless, it’s Alexandre Lacazette who is the Gunners’ most captained player for Gameweek 22, handed the armband by 2.02%.

The Frenchman has been a consistent source of points at home, producing a goal or assist in seven of his 10 appearances, but he’s struggled for a cutting edge of late and failed to find the net since Gameweek 15.

A return to form could reignite interest in Lacazette ahead of four kind fixtures (bou CRY swa EVE) in as many Gameweeks.

Despite a run of two goals in the last nine Gameweeks, Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata (3.7%) is the top armband pick for this fixture.

That lack of form means that the Spaniard and team-mate Eden Hazard were among the top five most transferred out players for Gameweek 22, sent packing by 243,000+ and 207,000+ respectively.

Hazard has mustered just a single assist in five yet both he and Morata also have some decent fixtures ahead to arrest their recent declines – over the next five Gameweeks, Antonio Conte’s side host Leicester, Bournemouth and West Brom and also make their way to Brighton and Watford.

Encouragingly for Hazard’s owners, he looks set to return to a central role with the visitors rolling out a 3-5-1-1 formation.

The Gunners, meanwhile, welcome back Mesut Ozil from a minor knee problem, though injuries in defence means that Arsene Wenger is forced to field the likes of Calum Chambers, Rob Holding and Ainsley Maitland-Niles in his starting line-up.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

With the current shift in landscape, who is more vital to FPl teams?

    Aguero vs Alonso

The Jesus injury has put a little spanner in the works and gives a nice upgrade from Morata/ Lacazette (in my case)

A lot of people downgraded Alonso to Christensen a few weeks to get Hazard in. It seems Hazard hasn't kept fulfilled his promise.

Who is more important? Aguero or Alonso?

A little bit unbalanced, is it not?
9.5 for two goalkeepers is too expensive for me, and you basically count on 6 players to bring you points?

      Alonso.

Aguero is not worth the money, he simply isn't the player he was two seasons ago.

I'd rather use my 3 City spots on Otamendi, Sterling and another mid such as KDB.

Priority is very much Alonso as he has high ownership in the top 10k and only having Christensen means I lose points every time he scores.

Aguero would be nice, but (a) it would mean taking out Firmino for a -4 just before Liverpool have Swa/Hud/TOT/sot/WHU/NEW, and (b) his ownership isn't nearly as high, particularly in the top 10k.

I wouldn't overly worry about what the top 10k are doing as they likely won't be there come the end of the season based on their past histories with a very high percentage of them being in the top 10k for the first time ever.

I have both but it is not ideal since my 5th mid/3rd fwd are RLC and DCL and have no money to upgrade them. Maybe 4-4-2 is the most ideal format in my case.
If I had to select one of them, I would go with Alonso.

      Hard to say.

If Chelsea buy a new left back, Alonso has to be ditched asap.

If Sanchez goes to City, Aguero has to be ditched asap.

Next GW in 10 days, one of the above scenario could happen so wait on your transfers (eventhough people clearly aren't and Alonso is becoming unaffordable...)

They would like to but Juve wants to keep him. Was the same story whole summer and Sandro did not move.

Might happen, might not. I think it won't.

This being said, I think Conte will want to add a back-up left back at the very least.

Have been thinking of exactly the same thing since my morning coffee...

I have Hazard, Salah, Coutinho, Sterling, Pogba (and Otamendi, Kane) which I am happy with. I was just thinking of how to get Agüero and who to sacrifice in midfield. And it turned out to be difficult, to say the least, to upgrade Diouf or DCL to Agüero. But now I wonder, with either a CS or a goal with these lovely fixtures, it makes more sense to go Alonso with a midfield downgrade. It gives me the same, if not better, value for money.

I think where value is essential, and it is, the reply is a certain Alonso (if you have Kane and you are content to captain him mostly).

Agüero is inconsistent captain material. Not of the same value when you already have Kane.

Alonso is a good option but doesn't have much over Azpi. Aguero is not important at all. The issue with him this season was never the minutes unlike last season. He hasn't been injured yet unlike previous seasons. He has almost always started and completed more than 70 minutes which in most matches City have already scored 2 or 3 goals and are already cruising by then. He is just not the Aguero of 2 or 3 years ago.
      1) He is older and slower.
      2) In Pep's City and especially that year, he is not the focal point of the team. The team doesn't depend on him to win. The team doesn't just pass only to him as before. Its all about the midfield and the wingers now. In short, his involvement in the tea's play is much less than with City pre-Pep.
      3) He probably wants to leave City as his role is less important.

The ideal 3 City players to have are KDB,Sterling and Otamendi.

5 of them he didn't play though. With a good bench, it wouldn't hurt so much. He is yet to go into a run where you'd think '"Oh Aguero is in great form now". Average/Decent performances aided by penalty kicks and tap-ins are the summary of his FPL season so far. Even Messi and Ronaldo depend on those to boost their numbers but they are not the majority of their tallies. Aguero is not the same FPL asset of the pre-Pep era no matter how you look at it.

Kun Cpt material 24 and 25 and if he hauls as Cpt has far more upside than Firmino and Lingard no matter the fodder.

Fair enough, but Aguero hasn't hauled much at all ever since his injury. One double digit haul in 11 games played. A large portion of his goals have been penalties.

    2. Eze Really?

Probably the most common question recently; in various forms.
      No decent defenders below 5.3.
No decent mids below 6.5 unless thinking Lingard and Richi.
      All 4.5 mids bench fodder.
Apart from Firmino and maybe Vardy; no decent mid price options up front.
In mt view the question should be Kane or Kun but hard to have both.

Depends on how you want to interpret what happened:

Is it a Joselu situation where he is just in garbage finishing form?
      or
Is it a Kane situation where he's just unlucky and he's bound to explode with goals soon?

      😉

Think I almost did the exact same thing as Conte after he missed one of those 1-on-1 Chances(yes, there were too many to keep track of—but talking about falling to the ground and banging on the floor!)
I mean, my knee is jerking so hard that i could’ve scored one of those goals!

Very little in the way of good returns at that price. Buy Quaner at 4.6 and forget all about him. Just occasionally he might be autosubbed in and get you a goal or assist. That is what I am planning to do - DCL boat has sailed and hit rocks somewhere near Liverpool.

      1. Foozeball
        • 7 Years

I agree that they're pretty weak and I wouldn't expect much from them. Just the odd goal or assist occasionally, hopefully when as expected against defensively woeful teams or in auto-sub situations

Predominant formation will be 4-5-1 with Kane as the lone forward

Yeah but for how long? Sterling a threat and to be honest he doesn’t look like the old Kun.

Will still score a few but I will most often captain Kane or Salah going forward and then the value is somewhat diminished. I get the appeal though but to much sacrifice for my squad personally.

B] I love Gomez or TAA(who has better Atk + bps returns of late)... but fixtures are mixed bag. IMO, either is better Ogbonna tho(Hamners not keeping C’s) Save cash with maybe Lascelles, maybe PVA had spark of form? Or go 5.5 area and take your pick...
C] If haven’t spent the cash yet, Pickford, Pope, Adrian...if no funds stick w/ foster
