Dugout Discussion – Wednesday

The penultimate fixture of the packed festive schedule gets underway at 7.45pm as Arsenal and Chelsea go head-to-head at the Emirates.

For the hosts, Alexis Sanchez has upped his output in recent weeks – after a slow start to the season, last term’s top scoring player in Fantasy Premier League has delivered points in seven of his last 10 league appearances.

That form suggest that the Chilean is likely to pose the main danger to a defence that’s conceded just four times in their previous 11.

Nonetheless, it’s Alexandre Lacazette who is the Gunners’ most captained player for Gameweek 22, handed the armband by 2.02%.

The Frenchman has been a consistent source of points at home, producing a goal or assist in seven of his 10 appearances, but he’s struggled for a cutting edge of late and failed to find the net since Gameweek 15.

A return to form could reignite interest in Lacazette ahead of four kind fixtures (bou CRY swa EVE) in as many Gameweeks.

Despite a run of two goals in the last nine Gameweeks, Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata (3.7%) is the top armband pick for this fixture.

That lack of form means that the Spaniard and team-mate Eden Hazard were among the top five most transferred out players for Gameweek 22, sent packing by 243,000+ and 207,000+ respectively.

Hazard has mustered just a single assist in five yet both he and Morata also have some decent fixtures ahead to arrest their recent declines – over the next five Gameweeks, Antonio Conte’s side host Leicester, Bournemouth and West Brom and also make their way to Brighton and Watford.

Encouragingly for Hazard’s owners, he looks set to return to a central role with the visitors rolling out a 3-5-1-1 formation.

The Gunners, meanwhile, welcome back Mesut Ozil from a minor knee problem, though injuries in defence means that Arsene Wenger is forced to field the likes of Calum Chambers, Rob Holding and Ainsley Maitland-Niles in his starting line-up.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    I really need Alonso......

    Which is preferable?

    A) Alonso, Ogbonna and Pogba
    B) Alonso, Vertonghen and Lingard

Other defenders are Otamendi, Kenny and Mbemba,

    Arnautovic + DCL > Lingard + Caroll for -4 ?

Do you think that Caroll nailed that spot until he will get another injury?

Arnautovic has proven he is effective at the center forward position, so he may still be a rotation risk because of how injury prone he is

Will John Stones be nailed even if Kompany is somehow healthy?
Otamendi has to be undroppable in the form he's in, so the last CB spot would be between Stones or a healthy Kompany

Currently have Azpi and Christensen, but need Alonso. Who do I replace? Had Azpi almost the whole season and think he’s more nailed and a BAPS monster, but would two £7m-ish defenders be too much in Chelsea?

Sell Azpi easily. He might get baps in a low scoring game and have the odd assist but Alonso is quite clearly the better pick. Chris will challenge Azpi for baps.

The FFS season ticker is a thing of beauty, isn't it?

sorted for home fixtures by difficulty Southampton are bottom, defence, attack and overall. They have two fewer home fixtures than almost all teams.

6/1 currently on relegation looks INCREDIBLY generous

Suprised people are jumping on Kun so quickly.

I still think Firmino is a far better option at 3mil cheaper. Might be back on pens when Coutinho leaves too.

Much prefer KDB to Kun, for a variety of reasons.

I'm chasing in my private league, and Jesus being out with City facing NEW and WBA at home in the next few games is a good chance to make up lost ground. Not saying it will defo pay off, but it's defo worth a shot - differentials don't come much better than that, do they?

But he's not the main man at City. Sterling and KDB are FAR better options, for less money. He might tick along with the odd goal or assist but at 11.7 he's WAY overpriced if you're not captaining him, and I still favour Kane/Salah as a captaincy option week in week out.

People are clinging to past seasons, and it's sad to see. He's NOTHING like he was in previosu seasons, where he was the default captaincy option and it made sense to have him despite his overpricedness.

Yet somehow he finds himself second highest scoring forward, despite all the rotation etc. Now there shouldn't be as much of that with Jesus injured and the fixtures are great after next week.

I will always be more reluctant to captain KDB than a (almost, Im aware of the false-9 possibility) nailed on Aguero.

I got him mainly out of desperation to get Morata out and with Watford at home it was great timing in theory. May switch down after the two good home games.

Short term its Kun. He should have scored more over the past gameweeks.
