Dugout Discussion – Spurs vs West Ham

The final round of festive fixtures comes to its conclusion at Wembley Stadium as Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham play the second match of their double Gameweek 22.

Much to our collective relief, Harry Kane returns to the hosts’ starting line-up after producing just a single point from his 22 minutes off the bench at Swansea on Tuesday night.

It’s fair to say that the Fantasy Premier League hopes of many managers rely on the Spurs striker this evening.

Not only is he the top captain pick for the Gameweek (24.2%), a hefty 121,000+ Triple Captain chips have been wielded on Kane in light of back-to-back hat-tricks in his previous two starts.

The allure of a double Gameweek has also boosted in interest in Spurs midfield trio Son Heung-min, Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli. All three join Kane on the teamsheet and are also among the top 13 armband picks for Gameweek 22.

The top transfer target for Gameweek 22, with 498,000+ new owners, Son has scored in five of Tottenham’s last six at Wembley, totalling 57 points over those matches.

Eriksen and Alli, meanwhile, bagged an assist and goal respectively in Tuesday’s win at Swansea to continue their improved form.

The Dane has supplied points in six of his last seven outings, while Alli has two goals and four assists in his previous three.

At the back, Ben Davies earns successive starts for the first time since Gameweek 16 as Danny Rose misses out with a knee complaint again.

The big news for the Hammers is that Marko Arnautovic is sidelined with a minor hamstring problem.

Drafted in by over 368,000 for his pair of fixtures, he ends double Gameweek 22 on five points, having earned the assist for Andy Carroll’s late winner against West Brom.

Carroll’s two goals in the Baggies’ clash isn’t enough to keep his role in the XI, though – he drops to the bench as Chicharito leads the line instead.

The Mexican and Manuel Lanzini – who has supplied four assists in his previous five – carry the main threat to a defence that’s looking for their tenth clean sheet of the season.

What to do with this lot?

Have WC, 2FT and 0.1m itb.

    Courtois

    Otamendi - Vertonghen - Azpi (Mee/Bruno)

Salah - Sterling - Son - Arnie (RLC)

    Kane - Firminio - DLC

    Help?

Nowt wrong with that lot. Would downgrade Vertonghen to a West Ham defender perhaps because he's not really necessary and it frees up funds to use elsewhere. Spurs are too inconsistent this season to warrant investment in anyone but Kane so maybe Son > Pogba or RLC > Lingard?

Wouldn't say you need to do anything drastic really.

      Son
      Firm
      DLC

Are the ones I'd look to shift.

Son / Firm first maybe, because you have most invested there and could use to get Aguero and a cheap mid maybe?

Would also rather have DDG than Courtois. You've got a Chelsea fullback which is all the Chelsea you need in your life really.

Of course. I dropped him before his twin hattricks. Utterly moronic move on my part. But that doesn't change how foolish it was to triple captain him when he was flagged and coming up against a team like West Ham at Wembley in a season where he has consistently struggled in precisely that sort of situation.

Currently on Otamendi - Ogabonna - Duffy - Kenny - Maguire. Duffy > Tarkowski is a cert, and would like to do Maguire > Christensen. So not a rubbish defence by any means, just not stellar. I still have Niasse up top and Speroni as my second keeper, so they're my money savers.

My team (strongest, not how it’s set for next GW):
    De Gea
    Alonso Otamendi Jones Mee
    Salah Sterling Arnie Son KDB
    Firminio
    Subs: Adrian, Ogbonna, Okazaki, Depoitre
    0.9 ITB
    What do you think?
I know the strikeforce is pretty weak but I just can’t see any value in strikers at the moment, getting Kane would break my team. My next transfer is going to be Son to Mahrez (rather than a utd mid, for a bit of a differential) after next GW.
    What do you think about
    1. downgrading Ota (bought at 5.9) to Stones : Stones has half the minutes and almost half the points Ota this season, but is around a million cheaper
    and
    2. Depo to Quaner
in order to free up cash to upgrade Okazaki to say Rashford or Rooney?

Or is that a waste of transfers?

Any suggestions on improvements to my team?
Thanks, sorry for the long post.

I'd keep Otamendi unless you desperately need the cash. Quaner transfer looks like it could free up some cash if you have no other pressing issues

    2. Pacer.
      • 9 Years

based on their first 12 games together, the value of an Otamendi to Stones moved is unlocked only by improvements elsewhere. You will lose approx .5 to 1 point per game by downgrading so be absolutely sure that the money you free up is going to buy more than this. Otherwise it's just a sideways move and waste of 2 valuable transfers

Can someone please explain why Salah hasn’t dropped in price given the huge number of transfers out he’s had? Been stuck around 95-99% on fplstats for days

Because now people are starting to get him back in, plus loads of wildcard traffic after many ripped up their teams and were left with a shambles.

Also, his ownership is the biggest in the game - therefore he needs the most sales to drop. At like 50%, a 5% drop is massive, considering 5.5 mil players.

They don't. Just didn't want him to go to Spurs. Where he could be useful.

Anybody else with triple Spurs attack thinking of keeping for one more week?
Hopefully I can get away with saving and then have a mini wc for the following GW:

    Fabianski
    Alonso / Otamendi / Masuaku / Duffy
    Son / Eriksen / Pogba / Sane / Lanzini
    Kane
    (Nor, Chic, Quaner, Zanka)
    1.0
    1FT

What! Spurs battered WHU and were unlucky not to win well (I haven't seen the game yet, but that seems to be the concensus?).
EVE are a very average side and if Spurs manage to score early, they'll be in trouble!

in saying that Arnie was pulled out with a hamstring injury last night, it was just a hopeful DWG punt (wish I'd done Carroll instead!).

I was planning to but I have Coutinho and no United attack, he may well become Lingard before the deadline. I'm happy enough with Son so Alli will probably go for KDB. Or I could just own Salah for the first time this season. I've come this far without him so tempted to go the full distance.

    Really considering WCing this mess.
    Pope
    Christensen Jones Ogbonna
    Eriksen Alli Sterling Arnie
    Kane Morata

    Pereira Duffy Ward DCL

    Looking at something like this:

    Pope
    Christensen Jones Stones
    Salah Sterling Mahrez Arnie Lingard
    Kane Morata

    Pereira Duffy Ogbonna Quaner

    Worth it or no?

depends on the purpose of wildcarding. You can paper over the cracks in about 3 transfers so if you want to just limp on then no it's probably not worth it, but then if you have a longer term strategy then perhaps it is. I've WC's because i'm going 5/4/1 or 4/5/1 and it was necessary to achieve a solid team for this

The purpose is that i feel stuck, and really dont believe in my team. 4 red arrows in a row and getting caught up in my ML. gone from 60k to about 130k. Might be me just panicking.

Just do some free transfers. WC the week before big DGW and BB to get 12 ish double game week players out

can't use this as standard advice any more with the free hit and TC

now could easily be an optimum point to WC for plenty of people

Still have all my chips, including Free hit card if that makes a difference. Was thinking of using that for coming DGW.

          No,
          - WC week before big DGW
          - BB in big DGW
          - FH chip in Blank Game Week
          - Triple Captain in second DGW

          .... depending on fixtures

Good points. Was the original plan like i did last season, successfully. But have lost confidence in my team, but 2-3 transfers next week might help.

You are only making 3 or 4 transfers - just take a -4 over the next 2 gameweeks and your team will be fine
