Join the Scout Team – Trials Open!

It’s been a while since we added to the team and, given that we’re still going and this Fantasy Football thing is kind of taking off, we believe it’s time we added to the squad – so effectively this is the beginning of our scouting mission!

To begin with, what we’re really looking for most of all is “talent” – namely Fantasy Football obsessives who are excited by the idea of leaving the stands, getting out onto our pitch and playing an active role in the site or wider community.

Obviously, there are some pre-requisites but, for the initial search, we’re not focusing on a specific position, so your skills could be from different fields:

  • Maybe you can write Fantasy Football articles.
  • Maybe you’ve created and managed your own Fantasy Football site and now want to be part of a team.
  • Perhaps you have experience in a Fantasy Football community or even any community.
  • Or you could run a Twitter or YouTube channel.

If you can do any of those things or, amazingly, perhaps all of them, then we’d love to hear from you.

The nature of the role will depend on the person and skillset. We have a core team who’ve been with us for years, so we’re a loyal and flexible company to work with if it’s a good match.

Obviously we’d kick-off with a trial and then likely look at a part-time contract, so you’d need to be happy with freelance work to begin with at least, but if things go well this could extend into a much longer-term deal.
Even if you’re not looking for a gig, but you’ve just fancied writing an article a week and have an idea to pitch us, then please get in touch.

As a company, we work remotely for much of the time but, ideally, we’d meet and work together on occasion, so being willing and able to work in London from time to time would also be a big advantage.

If all that sounds interesting and you’d like to put your name forward, please drop us a line at jobs@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk with some indication of what you could add to our line-up and if possible examples of relevant previous work – be it a link to an article, website, Twitter channel or YouTube channel. CV’s are good too but not essential.

N.B. In our experience, this process can take some time and, as we’re in the middle of the season, we may be slow responding to applications, so please be patient.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

If there was no Juve game I would actually go for Kane. I really think it will be a mauling. But there is and so I’ll go Salah, funny that it seems boring, I mean not captaining Kane and that seems boring. Weird.

My thinking is that Kane is more likely to be yanked off with Juve in mind while I expect Salah to be rested for the return leg v Porto

Kane hasnt been subbed off much lately. I think Mabye he will go off in the 85th after a hat trick.

Kane wants as many goals as he can and never seems to need a rest. Still think he'll get loads of minutes.

Those bringing in the likes of Eriksen and Arnie, or any blanker in gw31, are you using your free hit in that week? If not, why those transfers?

Might bring in Kane for Hud and Bou...
I guess for those of us who bring in players like that (I got Eriksen last week) it's because we feel the 31 team is strong enough as it is and that more points will be gained from upgrading other areas of our team.

      I f x already have
      Foster
      Bauer
      Salah Mane Chopo-M
      Firmino Quaner

I could add Shaqiri or Stanislas, but that means I must sell Albrighton who has great fixtures. I might make the move in 31 but not ahead.

I think its a week to late to consider bringing in players that blank unless you use free hit, or for some reason has all the good GW31 players already.

already have 6 GW 31 players and with 2 transfers to come and 1 hit (optional), I'll get 8/9 out which is enough. I can then use one transfer on a non GW 31 player to maximize the next two fixtures

I feel if you plan for 31 too much you can lose track of current form and fixtures of non GW 31 players.

Points to be had in the next 2 GWs and too much dross in 31. Already have a solid core of Salah, Firmino, Mane, Shaqiri, Wilson and Zanka. Just 2-3 "-2 point" transfers will be enough to cover 31.

        This.

People with the right 5 Gw31 players will outscore people with 11 players who are mainly meh.

Not interested in filling up with GW31 players at the expense of GW31 blankers who have good fixtures between now and then.

So far I have 5 gw31 players: VVD, Salah, Firmino, Shaqiri and Begovic so all I need are 2FT and 1 hit and I think I will be ok with 8 players

Maybe Siggy, Walcott and Wilson but not decided yet.

Triple Liv for BGW31 and then GW32 away at Palace gives a decent base for holding on until GW33 for the WC.

Looking at GW32 fixtures they don’t scream out for a WC that will prove valuable playing it a week earlier, when you are considering players for Doubles in 34 and 37.

Been playing game a few years now, and I have to admit that current situation is a baffling as I’ve known it for planning next few weeks...confused.com 🙂

    4. Pompel
      • 10 Years

GW33 I think. The argument of carrying over 2FTs from 33 to DGW34 is countered by the high probability of needing to ship one of your players on a GW32 wild card anyway (injuries etc.)

      1. Virgil Hilts
        • 7 Years
        6 years, 2 months ago

I am currently swayed this way, but still sitting on the fence being influenced one way then the other...

I think those WC32 are looking also at an Inernational Break WC, whereby double price rises are likely to be rare and of little use, and information on fitness on players returning to their clubs not really available until the press conferences (as if they really tell you much these days)

        1. Pompel
          • 10 Years
          6 years, 2 months ago

That is true. To me it boils down to how my team looks like after GW31, and in particular if Arsenal-City is shifted to GW31 in which case I would go into GW32 in fine shape.
Another thing is that there is not rush to stock up on Spurs or Chelsa players before GW33, as they play each other in GW32.

          1. Virgil Hilts
            • 7 Years
            6 years, 2 months ago

That particular Spurs v Chelsea fixture is definitely another factor in delaying WC until 33 as you’ll want to load up on their players but not particularly for that fixture in 32

I'll make a decision after GW31, but I am currently leaning towards GW32 to clear out the dross post GW31. Also, playing the WC in GW33 would mean that one would not be able to use a FT assuming one had one. I'm not entirely sure about what extra knowledge one would have if playing the WC in GW33 - possibly more nailed-on information about DGW35?

Well, you'd know about players who got injured in GW32, I guess?

I am currently planning to play it in 33, but that's because I am unlikely to be chasing dross players just to make up the numbers for GW31.

I plan to BB in DGW34, so it would be most advantageous to WC right before it a la the past 2 seasons (36-37). I'll see how it pans out post BGW31.

My BGW31 team is likely to be

        Pickford

        Zanka

        Mane Salah Shaqiri Walcott

        Firmino Quaner

(Speroni, Otamendi, Christensen, Maguire, Dunk, Mahrez, Kane)

I may even have 2 FTs to fix up a GW32 side a bit improved to hold on to WC until GW33

There's some very sensible thinking going on in this thread. Must be the snow. I still think I have to WC in 32 simply because of the amount of dross I'll have after 31, but 33 probably better if you had a half-decent team after the internationals.

    Hi all!

    Any suggestions for this lot?
    2FT
    0.5 ITB

    DDG, Elliot
    VvD, Alonso, Mee, Duffy, Kenny
    Sterling, Salah, Walcott, Shaqiri, RLC
    Kane, Kun, Wilson

    A) Kun -> Firmino? and safe the other FT?
    B) Kun and Sterling -> Firmino and Eriksen

The next few fixtures of City just don't really look appealing to me so I don't mind have no player of just for now. Also if I just my FT next week for Alonso -> Davies I think I have a quite okay team for GW31

As a sterling and otamendi owner with only 2 points coming in for me, I still don't mind the cancellation, It was likely sterling wouldn't start anyway, and possibly otamendi missed out, now there's a chance I get extra players for a gw31 or whenever they reschedule

That might be worth saying - that you used to be enthusiastic about FPL and excelled at it, but that you now have more important things to spend your time on.

A number of chess players who were junior champions in their teens later gave up the game and become successful businessmen - it was good training in competitiveness, organisation, logical thinking and planning, things which would prove useful in their later careers.

I am running a quant trading business and put my fantasy achievement (ranked 3rd all-time and 8th in geometric mean rank) in my business presentation to add credit to my ability in usage of data analysis and prediction model. I find the investors feeling admired of this, coz it's a third party ranking me so high in a game organized by an renowned official party and played by millions of people. And soccer is something they know more than what I'm talking to them (e.g. Crypto), so if they don't fully understand the quant, they may believe my ability. However, I just did it when Ben McNair put up the below two charts in twitter, which just looks fantastic to the audience. So I would like to send a big thanks to Ben in creating those rank! So I agree that you can put it on CV, the right jon will value it.

I think a few things you'll find the likes of me and Ville Ronke and the world's other leading players all have in common include a cool head (I don't even tend to look at my team until deadline day and even then - I can barely be bothered), a confidence in your gut (so often we get people in as a result of our gut whereas others get them because the crowd is - see Otamendi for Ronke this season and Vardy for me last season at the beginning of his run), and a willingness to listen to well reasoned arguments.

Risk-aversion is the main 'skill' to do well. I think you're guaranteed top 10k every season waiting for a bandwagon to present itself and following the herd; captaining the highest owned player, etc.

This season has been cruel for finding differentials that have been FPL gold in the past - Alli, Eriksen, Sanchez, etc.

Yes. One of the reasons I despise bench points. They should be trying to eliminate some of the total spawn out the game. Halfin them would be a good move as it still requires a bench but doesn't let people get too lucky.

I benefited more than most last season with very lucky double figures off bench thanks to Andy Carrol no show for capoue points. I still said the same then.

Pity FPL Don't care what we want or id put it forward to them

hahaha its easily the thing I've done in my life which i'm most proud of. I was extremely obsessed that season though I haven't played more than half a season since, just hard to be as obsessed when you know that realistically you're never gonna finish any better

Has anyone else watched the Scoutcast with the subtitles on the screen?

    Worth a watch. Very funny.

Only use subtitles for Jonty to help with the way he pronounces players and posters names. 😉

Jonty is like a BBC news reader compared to some of stuff on there.

Both if you can, if just 1....Mane as a differential of sorts.

      Both

3 very good fixtures, including one (blank) week where 3 Liv look essential, especially if you have your WC still to get rid of them both to set up for DGW34, keeping Salah of course assuming you have him.

Are you happy that there is a lot of snow now? I have heard that snow is seldom for the United Kingdom. Now you can maybe do a snowball fight or sledging. Or is this very annoying for you? Thank you!

    Hypothetical and all that...

If the game gets called off tomorrow, are we better off:

    A) Cashing in on Sterling now (just back from injury, Pep's press conference didn't sound too promising, tougher games coming up) and go for Shaqiri/Sigurdsson/Mane etc.
    B) Hold as he could possibly be involved this weekend and would play in GW31.

I'm plus .7 on Sterling so my value is too high

Looking at the forecast I'd say Burnley v Everton is almost certain to be called off, followed closely by Leicester v Bou and then Liverpool v Newcastle. The rest seem safe.

The Leicester match is more likely to go ahead I would have thought - the really bad snow is likely to miss us .... but revised weather forecast before 7.

Burnley cops the weather bad too, I’m doubtful about that one. Got triple Leicester which would be a real blow on top of Liverpool assets. Might force a free hit

    Hi Guys,
I've got Deulofeu in my current first XI, but he seems to be long term injured.
Please advise on the following replacements:
    OPTION A:
    Lingard: GW29 Pal (A), GW30 Liverpool (H)
    OPTION B:
    Richarlison: GW29 WBA (H), GW30 Arsenal (A)
    Or any other suggestions?
    Cheers.
    M
