The Community Round Up

The latest double and blank Gameweek announcements dominated the community’s thoughts this week.

Our Hot Topic posters and community writers take in the ramifications of the altered fixture schedule, including the best players to target and how Fantasy Premier League’s chips can be most usefully deployed.

Elsewhere, the statisticians in our Members area have also been busily preparing for the season run in with a look at the most attacking assets to consider.

Finally, we conclude our round-up with a look at who emerged from Gameweek 31’s reduced set of fixtures in a strong position at the top of the community leagues.

The Community Articles

Our Rate My Wildcard Team Surgery opened up this week to help those who have deployed this chip ahead of Gameweek 32. I start off the discussion with the challenges facing my overhauled team, which is based around using the Bench Boost chip in double Gameweek 34, the Free Hit chip the week after and saving the Triple Captain chip for Gameweek 37’s likely extended set of fixtures.

FPL Virgin dropped by to put forward an alternative chip strategy, which could be particularly appealing to those without a Triple Captain chip in hand.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

The season run in became much clearer this week with the confirmation that eight teams will play twice in Gameweek 34 with the following Gameweek reduced due to FA Cup semi-finals.

Andy85wsm kick-started the double Gameweek strategy discussion, which was swiftly followed by Flynny’s post on why Gameweek 34 looks potentially the best time to use a Bench Boost chip.

Those currently tinkering with their team after firing up the second Wildcard were canvassed on their plans by Punty McPuntface, while Bouncebackability put forward a specific plan for those with no Triple Captain chip.

We asked the community for their views on who the best strikers, midfielders and defenders will be for the remaining seven Gameweeks. Viper stripes supplemented this with a specific discussion on the best budget forwards.

Liars Poker is among those looking for new blood in his frontline, amid concerns that Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino is not explosive enough to justify his 9.7 price tag. However, Viper believes ditching the Brazilian, who has scored 14 goals in the league this season, is too risky.

Meanwhile, Pooodle believes that Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is cup tied for Arsenal’s Europa campaign, looks a perfect candidate for a forward role. Doosra’s latest number crunching, as delivered by G-Whizz, certainly indicates he could be a shrewd purchase for Gameweek 32.

Another to look at season run in players is Enzo the Baker, who is wondering if now is the time to swerve underperforming premium defenders. Our Hot Topic on the best cheap enablers includes a raft of budget gems in defence to consider.

Meanwhile, Brosstan is not happy with the inevitable deployment of chips around double Gameweeks and thinks it makes FPL too predictable and boring.

We added to this debate on chips by canvassing views on their deployment so far, to assess who have been the winners and losers.  When to use the second Wildcard is a key decision to make for those still holding on to this chip, with Zico Senna advocating firing it up now ahead of Gameweek 32 rather than waiting.

One way to spice up the final Gameweeks of the season would be to take the bold step of removing Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, who scored 29 points last weekend and is heading towards a final points tally that may well be the biggest that FPL has ever seen. Pras United is the brave community poster to put forward this potentially season wrecking notion.

Those who entrusted the Egyptian winger with the Triple Captain chip in Gameweek 31, as detailed in our ”rough with the smooth” round up of your latest scores, are especially unlikely to hand Salah his P45.

But could key players, such as Salah, be rested as the campaign draws to a close and league positions are largely decided? Athletico Bilbo details those who may already ‘be on the beach’ as the season edges nearer to its conclusion.

Finally, this week saw Ragabolly join the FFScout editorial team to present the first in a regular series of articles using his metrics and data tools to assess how the top 10,000 Fantasy Premier League managers perform each week. He takes up the role after impressing with his recent community articles that looked at how high-placed managers were geared up for Gameweek 31’s limited set of fixtures.

The Members Tables

Prolific wing backs are the focus of Stoke Me A Clipper’s latest table, while vkux has been delving into the underlying statistics of forwards and midfielders priced under 9.0.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

Anders Lium retains top spot in Red Lightning’s Top 10K Any Season league with Stuart Blakeley in Hot pursuit, just two points behind in second.

There’s also no change at the summit of the FFScout Members League, where Paul Gee has a commanding 31 lead over second placed Heroes and Villains.

However, Paul has to settle for second in the FFScout league, which continues to be lead by Rizwan Chaudhry, who moves from sixth to third in the overall rankings.

Jack Wain once again tops the FFScout moderators and contributors league, while I lead the chasing pack, with Az now moving up to third after a score of 110 points in Gameweek 31.

Elsewhere, I slip down to second in QPR Utd’s Frequent Summer Posters competition, with Zoumas Bloomers reclaiming bragging rights at the top.

A score of 100 was enough for Dan Jeffries to retain first place among the community’s oldest and wisest members at the summit of the FFS Old Farts Club.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round-ups, please email us summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spreadsheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Im slightly short of the template team I want, due to low TV, and not sure what to do. I want this-

    De Gea Ryan
    Alonso Smalling Morgan Lowton Tark
    Salah Son Mahrez Gross Willian
    Lukaku Firmino Barnes

Im £0.7m short of this team. I have BB and FH left. Im thinking of Barnes to Quaner? He would only play in 34 anyway (ideally). Other option is Lukaku to Auba? That would give me £0.1m in the bank.

    Any thoughts?

This one's from FPLVirgin (smiles sincerely, the big lines on his face show this)... Are we being told what to do or is free-thinking still an option? (Loud banging in the Granville blank screen) Mark, this one's for you...

Well it's difficult to say right now. One thing I do know is that we will know for sure if it's all been worth it at the end of the season. But right it's difficult. Very very difficult. And things change. So it's tricky. What I do know is that regardless of what anyone else thinks, or what points were scored, the decisions I made were right for me at the time.

(Strokes bumfluff and hides the wine (mid-range) glass)

Now we've got a question from FPLVirgin... (eyes struggling a bit now - mask slipping and looks a bit angry, wine kicking in) Are FFS just a marketing tool for betting firms or is this really what it seems, a fun fantasy football forum?

Mark, you are probably the best one to ask about this...

Hmm that's a tricky one. It's difficult and getting a bit serious now. Can't we just talk about us all triple captaining Harry Kane in GW37? Only for about 20 minutes. I love you Harry Kane.

                        (Grimaces off-screen then smiles)
One more question from FPLVirgin, I think Mark can answer this one (hits the bottle, hard)
With 6m players, why is there not a proper market? Sanchez was not bought so cannot fall much, he's fixed, he's not going to be bought... is it meant to be like this or has the pricing mechanics not caught up with simple supply and demand until you get the buyers or will it always be fixed?

Who from Chilwell or Morgan to bring in on WC?

A Morgan club captain, not so attacking other than from corners and set pieces but is he fit enough to play 2 games in a week?

B Chilwell looks attacking so assist potential but will Fuchs play some games in double game weeks and consign him to bench?

    1. Netley Lucas
      • 8 Years
      6 years, 1 month ago

Again it's a budget thing really as you'd suspect only Maguire is 100% nailed for all games and maybe Morgan next but then it gets trickier. Chilwell does get a rest for Fuchs, he can play LM but Gray & Albrighton get that gig too. Simpson has Amartey when back.

I’m really stuck on wether to risk Chilwell or not too. I can only afford 4.3m so it’s between him and Simpson rather than Morgan.

Chilwell certainly has a higher ceiling than Morgan/Simpson, but it just depends how severe his rotation is likely to be. I don’t know enough about Leicester to know the likelihood of him being rotated.

    On wc. Current team.

    Ddg, Ryan
    Azpi, Smalling, Tark, Lowton, Cedric
    Salah Son Mahrez, Gross, Kennedy
    Aub, Vardy, Murray

Plan would be to lose Aub for Lukaku in gw 34 and Kennedy for gudmonsen in 33.

Am I just being stupid with my Kennedy punt? Means I have to bench one of my other front 8 to start him and costs me a ft.

I've almost talked myself out of it

Kenedy for just one game is no way worth a FT.

And that’s coming from a Kenedy (long term) owner.

I’m currently on wildcard and will be bench boosting GW37, playing my freehit GW34 and just navigating through GW35 with 11 players and no hits.

        how will you do this?
as if you're wildcarding now then cyou should get 11 players playing in gw 35, which is difficult

    On WC

Already have Valencia and keeping him.

    Can afford either

    A. courtois + Smalling

    OR

    B. De Gea + Christensen

Please suggest, I guess it all comes down to who is more nailed Smalling or Christensen two play both games in GW34. Currently on A.

    Thanks for replying guys.

    Foster
    Baines TAA Alonso
    Walcott Shaqiri Eriksen Salah
    Aubamayang Firmino Deeney

    Elliot VLP Ake Schindler

    2.2m ITB, 0 FT, 0 WC, 0 FH

    A best option this week?
    A Firmino > Lukaku
B Van La Parra > Willian
    C Walcott > Mahrez
    D TAA > Bailly
    E Ake > Valencia
    F Eriksen > Sanchez

Do you think that TAA is a good WC option if Gomez is out for a while?

He's averaging 4.15 points per game which is amazing for a £4.3m player and Liverpool's defense has really tightened up lately.

The downsides are that he has no DGW's and Clyne could be back soon.

thoughts on this draft for BB34?

    DDG - Ryan
Alonso - Bailly- Robertson - Morgan - Lowton
    Salah - Mahrez - Son - Willian - Gudmundsson
    Lukaku- Vardy - Murray

Not sure Robertson gets the games you need around CL semis, Duffy maybe?

The rest looks fine although you could Baiily>Vertonghen, looks iffy now but you'll see why soon enough.

    GW 35 draft. Thoughts, feelings?

    Pickford
    Otamendi, Monreal, Watford cheapie
    Salah, mane, Sterling/Sane, silva
    Auba, firmino, tosun

King available as a sub. Then a load of 3.9 rubbish

Is this a decent enough plan for WC?

    DDG Ryan
    Bailly Mustafi Robertson Lowton Morgan
    Salah Mahrez Son Willian Gudmundsson
    Lukaku Aubameyang Murray

Save 2 FT for DGW 34
    -> Auba > Vardy
    -> Mustafi > Alonso

Not getting the Robertson love tbh, yeah I got his 11 but I don't want Moreno starting when he has crucial CL games.

If you make provision for Vardy at say 9.2 and Alonso at 7.5 and you get no injuries it looks good.

Retinkered..thoughts on WC team with exact cash?

No more FH chip..8 x dgw players (+salah auba firm) in 34, 7 in 35 (could get 10 with a hit), BB37..sound plan?

Other reason for this plan is i don’t really fancy vardy + mahrez, got firmino @ 8.5, and couldn’t decide between 2 of lukaku/auba/firmino

    DDG fabianski
    Alonso lascelles morgan ward duffy
    Salah willian mahrez groß kenedy
    Lukaku auba firmino

what do u think guys on this wildcard plan?

    de gea lloris
    alonso bailly duffy lowton morgan
    salah silva willian mehrez gudmundsen
    aubameyang vardy murray

    1.3 itb

gameweek 33 FT -> silva to son
gameweek 34 FT -> aubameyang to lukaku
    gameweek 35 -> free hit
    gameweek 37 -> TC

It looks great like that apart from the showboating Lloris

Mind you, you are banking transfers, you could be storing up hits so be careful... the ones you will want can do well and can rise in price.

You obviously have good value, better than most, use it wisely, saving a bit to get Kane in 1 in 36 could be advantageous.

Have a look at Bailly v Vertonghen over the period and beyond, you may see something that doesn't require Lloris.
