Dugout Discussion – Gameweek 38

Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers have one last chance for mini-league glory as the 2017/18 season comes to its conclusion this Sunday afternoon.

Mohamed Salah and Harry Kane, the top two players in our Captain Poll for Gameweek 38 and rivals for the Golden Boot, both start.

Three goals ahead of the Spurs striker, Salah seeks a tenth double-figure home haul as Liverpool welcome Brighton to Anfield.

Sadio Mane is passed fit to start for the Merseysiders, while Roberto Firmino and Dominic Solanke are also in the XI against a Seagulls’ side that they have already beaten 5-1 earlier in the season.

Meanwhile, Kane collides with a Leicester defence that he’s scored five goals against in their previous two league meetings. However, owners of Dele Alli, Son Heung-min and Ben Davies are left disappointed as all three are named on the bench at Wembley.

Elsewhere, Jose Mourinho is true to his word and makes numerous changes to the Man United teamsheet.

The likes of David De Gea and Chris Smalling are – as their manager suggested – both rested, though there’s no Anthony Martial in the squad to face Watford at Old Trafford, as the Frenchman misses out through injury.

In the blue half of Manchester, Gabriel Jesus is the man to miss out up front, with Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva all starting against a Southampton side with two clean sheets in 17 home matches. Ederson and Kyle Walker are named among the subs, while David Silva and Nicolas Otamendi miss out altogether at St Mary’s.

Arsene Wenger rolls out the big-hitters for his final match in charge of Arsenal, with Alexandre Lacazette flanked by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan for the trip to Huddersfield.

Eden Hazard and Olivier Giroud are named on the Chelsea teamsheet at Newcastle but there’s no place for Marcos Alonso, who drops to the bench. Eight goals in nine against the Magpies makes Giroud a potentially big differential today.

The most transferred in player for Gameweek 38, Wilfried Zaha is again named up front by Roy Hodgson for Crystal Palace’s clash with West Brom. The Ivory Coast international has delivered 14 points in each of his last two at Selhurst Park.

Finally, Marko Arnautovic is another out-of-position starter who could have a big impact in the final standings.

The Austrian has ten goals and six assists since being moved up front in Gameweek 16 and could prove the difference as David Moyes looks to get one over former club Everton at the London Stadium.

Poor end (last 6 gwks) to a decent season overall I suppose. Everything I touched went wrong.

Second consecutive top 5k finish and 5th top 10k in the last 8 years The other three being top 20k.

Thanks to everyone for the words of advice and encouragement over the season. I need to forget about this game for a couple of months now though, so, until next season, take care everyone! 🙂

What if you had 2 non-playing goalkeepers but played Ederson. It would be ridiculous to get -1 for a player who didnt play lol

A friend of mine is in a really close ML battle and played his Bench Boost, with both DDG and Ederson. No idea what will happen and he's tearing his hair out!

Then by default your sub keeper won't come and Ederson will count as your keeper and you get the -1.

18 players scored higher than Lukaku this season. Just two of those were priced higher than him.

3-5-2/4-5-1 for the start of next season for me for sure. 1 premium striker maximum.

Did Jesus's YC actually cost owners 4pts? His just updated BPS is 26 (1pt) so add back the -3 for a yellow would be 29bPS and would have been worth 3 pts

Couldn't even have a shot at winning my H2H league today as the leader who I was only 2 points behind got his opponent to sabotage his team with a 40 point hit so there was no way he wouldn't get the 3 points, hardly sportsmanlike at all. Even more so when there's prize money on the line.

Took an 8 pt hit - Alli (1), Kiko (0), Willian (1) out for PvA (18), Salah (11), Gudmundsson (2) - and that's without considering Salah (C). Alli -> Gudmundsson had to be done in order to afford the other two moves.

And then, in what can only be described as a miracle from the FPL gods, Vertonghen got injured in the warm-up meaning that I had Vardy's 13 pts come on.

Unfortunately not enough for a third consecutive Top 10K finish, but I'm pleased with ~30K considering it took me 19 GWs to break into the Top 100K and that I wasted my TC on Sterling in DGW 37.

Won 2 mini leagues out of 3 before today but enjoyed a close battle in the 3rd but just lost out. Finished top of H2H league but just lost final play off today as well. Finished approx 40k OR, so not as good a season as hoped.

        Holy crap.

I’d lost my ML due to Jesus goal ruining my Cedric CS. We both have jesus.

He has ederson in goal and a 3.9 on his bench.

Threw all I had to try to win my ML, took 6 hits -20points (covering so many players in my team who were being dropped, DDG, Smalling etc) , managed to scrape 105 points total (net 85 points), with rather a few baps to be awarded, not bad, but only a runner-up in ML (top 1% finish overall too, okay season), still, a few quid won for 2nd ML place, pay for a few Doombars down the boozer.
