World Cup Transfer Tips: The Big Numbers – Groups A-D

After the all-too-swift turnaround between Gamerounds 1 and 2, Fantasy managers have some welcome breathing space before the third set of World Cup group fixtures get underway at 3pm on Monday.

With McDonald’s FIFA allowing unlimited transfers between the end of the group stage and the start of the knockout rounds, this is a great opportunity for Fantasy managers to take a one-match punt on players with a favourable fixture in Gameround 3.

We’ve scanned through Opta’s World Cup data for the 16 Group A-D fixtures contested so far to see how the underlying statistics could influence Fantasy managers’ transfers ahead of the Gameround 3 deadline. Fantasy Football Scout users can do the same in the Members’ area, which is updated after the completion of each match.

Those playing McDonald’s FIFA have, unsurprisingly, acquired the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Denis Cheryshev and Diego Costa in their droves ahead of the final round of group fixtures, while Lionel Messi‘s ownership dwindles by the hour.

Most ppl will yell Kaku but the potential returns are greater with Kimmich. The fixtures of both are fairly easy. It's a tough one not as straight forward as most ppl make it out to be. Kaku is more likely to score goals but if Kimmich does it's a greater return. The risk is also higher for loss if Kaku blanks.

    A) Twist (C) from Jesus to Lukaku, Muller, Meunier or Kimmich?

    B) When to use bench boost, GW3 WC+ Bench boost or use it after the group phase? Is it even viable considering BB after the gp cuz bench might be problematic.

Twist to Lukaku I guess. Germany in a bigger need for a win but Lukaku is a focal point of Belgium attack. And Tunisia will try to win it and will be exposed at the back.

Germany can easily win 4-0 but spread the points.

Apparently in Nigerian football culture there is an 'Over the Bar' chant to invoke bad voodoo on the pen taker.

Better captain pick tomorrow Mueller or Lukaku?

Just have a feeling Tunisia will try and lock down Lukaku

They will try to lock down kaku, and mertens, and hazard, and KDB, and carassco...

      2-0 Belgium (KAKU, CARASSCO goals)

      Lukaku.

Muller has 8 bundasliga goals this year for Bayern. That’s shockingly bad considering their dominance.

Muller is not the player he used to be.

So I used my WC for GW3 and I’ve come up with this so far. What do you guys think I should do differently:

    Halldorsson, Elshenawy

    Kimmich, Boateng, Pique, Akanji, Pazdan

    Coutinho, Oezil, Jedinak, Sassi, Cuadrado

    Lewandowski, Finnbogason, Silva

    My thinking:

Iceland over Croatia due to them resting their stars as they have a pretty much guaranteed first place rank in their group.

Australia still have a chance and will be eager to be in the box all game hence more penalty shots for the perfect PK Jedinak.

Germany will destroy Korea and keep a CS hence the picks.

Poland over japan with a CS (pending GW2 results).

I see your point here. It’s a big reason I only went for Trippier week 1.

I don’t want it to make England games any more stressful. Just want to enjoy them as they are.

But you can always captain Kane then set it aside and forget about fantasy. It’s not like it’s fpl which is actually important.

I live in the US so I see a fair amount of Panama as they play the USA a fair amount. They are truly shocking. Kane could get 4 easy against them. However I'm English so I know we can also screw up but if you have Kane I think you have to take the chance on him.

What's your earliest world cup memory?

Mine is in 1990 being in my mates gaf when Cameroon beat Argentina 1-0 in the opening game.

My earliest football memory is Ray Houghton's goal vs England in 1988. I'm pretty happy about that!

It would be USA 94. I clearly remember the final. But the first moments would be Spain losing and Stoichkov and Baggio being immense early in the tournament.

Earliest memory is '98 - remember most of the tournament despite only having been very young but the final more than anything. And how terrible Ronaldo was, having been so great.

I have some faint flashes of memory from the 1986 WC watching at home with my older brothers sitting around that old dinosaur of a TV we used have not understanding what soccer was about only that Madonna was a god and England were the enemy.

I have a much clearer memory of the 1990 WC by that stage a was well clued in and Ireland making it to our first WC made it extra special and was the catalyst for me falling in love with the game.

Ireland vs England stands out in my mind from that WC it finished 1-1 Gary Liniker scored in the first half and Kevin Sheedy got the equalizer in the second half.

Looks good. The Croatian coach said they will rest players in round 3 so this might affect Lovren & Modric so I'd replace them. I'm not sure on Neuer. I'd rather have Kimmich than Neuer. Mybe replace Lovren with Kimmich & Modric with Eriksen & get a cheaper gk.

There's 3 things I'm really liking in the world cup:
    (1) The VAR. It's great having this option to decide crucial plays & to weed out the cheats like Neymar
    (2) I'm liking the refs allowing fair challenges for the ball instead of blowing their whistle/penalising all the time when someone gets touched & they throw a hollywood. An a non football person this is what puts me off about football i.e. players not even getting fouled but they put on an act & the ref goes in their favour.
    (3) The so-called weaker nations are catching up with the big boys. They aren't easy beats any more. Tactically & technically they have improved. It's probably due to getting in top coaching staff & their players playing in more competitive leagues mainly in Europe.
