Best Crystal Palace players to sign on FPL in 2018/19 – Complete Members’ Analysis

Crystal Palace look set to be a source of effective budget options in the early part of the 2018/19 campaign.

The Eagles favourable fixtures in the first nine Gameweeks, combined with some impressive underlying numbers towards the end of last season, mean there are viable options to consider in defence, midfield and attack.

Under Roy Hodgson, Palace made improvements in more than 20 key areas last time out compared to 2016/17, and that is expected to continue into the new campaign.

That data is available to Fantasy Football Scout members to look at in the Members’ Area, and they can also read our in-depth analysis of it in the article below.

I expect (hope) to see AWB get the nod. He's a far better player and with a full pre season, can gain more experience.
      Cool under pressure. Lightning fast.

Oh man, I didn't want to take any risks on starts, but AWB at 4.0m is tempting me...

Didn't Roy bring Ward back into the side after he recovered from his injury?

        1. palace ash
          • 14 Years

The only thing AWB was lacking in those early game was experience. His first games were against Spurs, Man U and Chelsea. He didn't put a foot wrong, but then made a mistake in the last 10 mins against Liverpool to give them victory.
Experienced gained will serve him well.
Ward was nearly let go on a free but only retained because we don't have funds to buy a replacement.

I don't get this, Mendy will play almost every match, he is their only real left back.

Sane will just be allowed to stay inside a bit more I reckon, I think Sterling will be used on the left more as well.

Currently on Wilson and Tosun as cheap strikers, to be occasionally rotated with Cairney and one of two 4.5 defenders.

Both seem good value to me, as the main strikers in midtable sides with excellent early fixtures. Any reason to think this is a bad strategy?

honestly unsure, and if not, then I will certainly reconsider. But I got the impression that Defoe rarely started last season, and now he's another year older. Plus Wilson just signed a new contract and Howe made some noises about him being a crucial player for them, or something along those lines...

Wilson is horrific and rotating three players in three different positions is asking for disappointment.

Thanks! But not sure why you think he's horrific in fpl terms. Pretty good numbers when he's been fit. And I don't get the problem with rotating players in different positions. It has a few benefits, including maximising good fixtures and helping to build a strong bench (which I think will be crucial this year). I get that i'm risking emotional disappointment at benching points, but i'm interested in arguments about why this strategy will not yield good points rather than arguments about why it might sometimes be frustrating.

That was a very exaggerated concept last season. We can be sure he’ll get minutes at the start, I think he’ll nail down a spot.

City are scary now. They create so many big chances in that right half-space for Sterling.

I wonder if the Mahrez signing was made because Sterling wasted so many. It feels weird to criticise a player's finishing when they scored so many, but it just shows how good City were at creating chances in that area.

If Mahrez nails that spot, he could be one of the highest scoring players.

      1. Piggs Boson

Sterling = 26 big chances. Only the strikers had more. Sane had 11 by comparison. City's orchestral attacks finish with that right wide man.

i'm struggling to see it. You mean in defence? Wan Bissaka would be great at 4, but it looks like a trap. I guess Tomkins at 4.5 is quite good, but to my eyes there are plenty of comparably good value picks at that price

Depends if he looks likely to nail down a spot under Emery. He was a terrific asset at points last season, and would be insane value as a regular starter at 5.0

Not sure why he was priced so low. Plenty of other players are priced as they would be if they were nailed (or thereabouts). Besides, Kolasinac has a huge opportunity with a new manager coming in. Strange decision to make a Kola bandwagon innevitable if he wins a place in the team imo. It would be a no-brainer.

Shame Belgium did not win. Could possibly have had 21 premier league players, playing in the final

Don't worry TL we will get to see them play again in the 3rd/4th place playoff.

Lloris, Pogba, Kante, Giroud still decent. Mendy on the bench too.

They had no chance today. France is unbelievably calm and organized. Great when counterattacks. Should win with bigger difference

Yes indeed. I did a 5 man at the back(with Salah) team earlier, ended up with about 5m itb.

Nah! I'm trying to win this year. Ederson in goals, Robertson, Daniels and Cedric in defence. Mid light admittedly (Salah, Siggy, Cairney and Neves). Front line of Kun, Aub and Bobby.

He'll probably miss a game or two at least. I think he will be eased in - he hasn't started consecutive competitive football matches in a long time.

No idea. Ideally you'd pick players sharp from pre-season. Hardly like Hazard's going to lose his place either way though.

That's highly exaggerated. It's a pre-season friendly and he tries to hold a bullet while his defenders are asleep.

    Ideas for this draft, I think the midfield is too weak;

    Pickford (Stekelenberg)

    Robertson Alonso Cedric (Daniels, Scheletto)

    Salah Eriksen Deulofeu Costa (Masuaku)

    Firmino Aguero Zaha

From the Wolves 2-1 win against Basel today there were 2 team's, one closer to the full team and one team close to 2nd string:
Wolves first half (3-4-3): Ruddy; Batth (c), Hause, John; Rasmussen, Goncalves, Watt, Giles; Mir, Benny-Seal, Cavaleiro.

Wolves second half (3-4-3): Norris; Bennett, Coady (c), Boly; Doherty, Neves, Gibbs-White, Douglas; Costa, Bonatini, Jota.

Goals: Mir (not an FPL option and Jota
    Assists: Doherty and Cavalerio

Some exceptions to the first string are:
Norris, Gibbs-White (who will still get PL minutes due to talent) and Bennett (who will probably start initially).
I'd imagine this shows Costa will start the season (bar injuries) and he got plenty of the ball. Bennett could be a good 4.0M option, while Jota could start as a false nine, until Jimenez is up to speed and to also accommodate Cavaleiro.
Although Costa and Cavaleiro will share minutes Costa's goal/assist output should be far better than any other 5.0M midfielder (bar Cairney)

Mahrez not a bad early shout. Sterling and Bernardo could miss a few games at the start of the season which gives enough time for Mahrez to perform and then you can transfer / wildcard him out.
