Best Manchester City players to sign on FPL in 2018/19 – Complete Members’ Analysis

How do Pep Guardiola’s team follow the season just gone? Manchester City cantered to their fifth league title win with five matches of the 2017/18 campaign to spare, breaking a host of records along the way.

Their run of 18 consecutive victories from August to December was the longest winning sequence in English football history, while their total of 100 points was the most ever recorded in England’s top flight.

A total of 106 goals, a goal difference of +79 and a title-winning margin of 19 points were also Premier League records.

Investment in this City side is, as was the case last season, a must from a Fantasy perspective, particularly since the release of the fixture list in June.

After a trip to the Emirates in Gameweek 1 (a fixture City won 3-0 last season, it should be said), Guardiola’s side then face all six of the most recently promoted clubs – four of whom will take on City at the Etihad.

Fantasy Premier League managers would have a strong case for using all three of their permitted slots for City players, though the fly in the ointment is that 16 of the champions’ first-team squad were on duty for their respective countries at the World Cup this summer and Guardiola’s pre-season preparations have thus been affected.

Price hikes for the likes of Raheem Sterling (£11.0m), Leroy Sane (£9.5m) and Nicolas Otamendi (£6.5m) would also prohibit widespread Fantasy investment in City’s premium assets.

I think so. Wolves are getting a lot of FPL attention, Patricio, Boly, Douglas, Neves, Jota all regularly mentioned. Also their striker I can’t remeber his name

Was originally in this mindset. I think I need to snap out of it & stop considering Alexis. Especially given Martial will probably get some pitch time at 3.0 cheaper.

Should avoid Utd altogether to be honest but would be nice to have a Friday night lights player for GW1

Why is everyone opting for a 343/442 when 352 has by far been the best formation over the past 2 years?

      4-4-2 is the best value.
Not enough forwards for a front 3, gone are the days of 2 strikers per team.

It was. Everyone just took time to adapt to it. All the City mids, Salah, Eriksen, Richarlison, Groß we’re doing pretty well.

None of the cheap forwards did well.

    6. Eden Wizard

Plus, we fundamentally should be formation flexible with a playing bench at this stage. Not sure i'd agree with your statement that everyone is avoiding 3-5-2.

People are picking the best balance for the players available and it’s not coming out with a 5 across the middle

Arnie and Zaha are now forwards at 7.5 rather than mids, there lots of wing backs knocking around and even more returning in s few game weeks etc.

There are no real ‘magic beans’ in the midfield £5 mill price bracket to play as 4th & 5th mids, just the hopeful punts that everyone seems to be bigging up like Neves, Cairney, Hughes etc

      1. Fantastisk

If playing 352 there isn’t a need for 4.5/5m mids.

Arnie & Zaha are forwards but that doesn’t increase their appeal. Both probably won’t even play as strikers this season.

        1. Hotdogs for Tea
          • 8 Years

Who will be your 4th and 5th mids in a 352? If you are spending £6 - £7mill then the rest of the squad is compromised

Better value in defenders and 7 mill forwards this year than mids imho

          1. Fantastisk
            • 6 Years
            5 years, 9 months ago

Agreed completely - I think midfield options in the 6-7 range are very poor this year. Either punts on unproven promoted teams or overpriced due to last year (Mili, Groß).

          2. Karan14
            • 8 Years

            Siggy/Walcott, Mkhi/Ramsey & Richarlison/Pereyra will be my 3rd, 4th & 5th mids.

Have 3 premium defs and Auba & Zaha upfront. There are options in the 7m fwd but don’t think many are better than one of the Arsenal mids or Siggy.

Fair point.. I kind of see it as if you get a solid defence you can't much go wrong.

As there is always a breakout midfielder/attacker we scramble to get anyway, not so much defence

I like to spread of funds. I just feel you’ll have a lot of points on the bench and benching headaches most weeks. For example DDG and fabs, should be DDG and a 4.0

I feel like I want my bench people to get me points, as I could either swap formations or find players on my bench who will increase value and I can cash them in, use that to make money

Aguero Vs Auba is really difficult. I feel it's too expensive to have both and Salah as Salah will be your captain most weeks and there are values in 7.0 fwd. I am leaning toward Auba based on the fact he had a full pre season without world cup and should be more nailed than Kun but I really don't like going without Kun for their GW 2-7 run...

What are your thoughts on this guys?

    1. dilksymatey

I've gone Aguero. Auba is yet to fully convince me in the Premier League. Although with Aguero's rotation risk I'd be pretty happy for Auba to kick on this season.

I think Auba had a pretty convincing first 6 months in the Prem. However with a new coach we might need time to see how Arsenal settles first that's true

    Fabianski, Foster (boring I know)

    Coleman, Mendy, Douglas, Cedric, Tomkins

    Salah, Mahrez, Jota, Cairney, Miki.

    Auba, Tosun, Zaha

Is there any other striker you would get for Richarlison’s or Gudmundsson’s price who is better than them?

          For 12.5 combined I would switch to Siggy & 4.5 and play 442 😉

Allison signing for Liverpool should only strengthen Robbo and other Liverpool defender, surely more clean sheets coming.

I'm definitely starting with Robbo but hoping TAA is nailed on in a few weeks so can save 1.0M.

Too high risk selecting Liverpud defenders as we saw last season. Klopp = rot.

Hang on - what about all those full backs who were injured?

Clyne, Gomez, the mad Spanish lad. They'll all be back in the mix.

As a klopptomist, you should be very familiar with his love of rot.

i know nothing about Wolves why at 6.5 is Jota a better deal than Neves at 5.0, who I read was on pens? Which is what Milojevic started at.

      Jota 17 goals and 5 assists. Neves 6 goals a 1 assist

Neves plays CDM and despite being a fantastic footballer he's not a good FPL pick. He is also not necessarily on pens, they don't appear to have 1 definite pen taker. Jota is a winger who should get more goals/assists, however also consider Costa at 5.0 who is also a winger.

100% agree with this. Neves is an outstanding player and deserves his hype. But he is still a CDM and I cant see him racking up the FPL points. Costa and Cairney (fulham) much better picks imo

    Luke Shaw:

"When everyone comes back and everyone is fit and ready, I still want to be that first name on the teamsheet"

Shaw is highly likely to start the season at LB and if he impresses he could hold it, one to watch at 5.0.

No mention of Fernandinho really on RMT.

Would he be a good option for the opening fixtures as opposed to any other 5.5 or less?

Guaranteed 90 minutes & could come up with the odd goal/assist, also endless amounts of passes

He's the best 5.5 option. Only problem is he takes up one of three spaces for City players.

True.. I don't know if a CDM in a top 4 team is better then an attacking player in a worse team i.e. a risk

Last season Fernandinho got as many points as an attacking players in a poor team. The question you're asking really is whether City will be as good as last season.

City triple up could well be on the cards after a couple of gameweeks. I wouldn’t want Fernandinho to be a part of it.

A few whispers that Martial wants out of Man U, Probably why the gaffer been talking him up for starting the season. Who would blame him, his role nearly as a place holder until the world cup players return.
Do you want someone in your side who maybe unhappy if does not get a move away?

Such a shame, he has got so much ability. I don't see why we can play Martial on the left, Sanchez on the right and Lukaku up front. Its just that Jose always wants to play Sanchez on the left and takes Martial and Rashfords place. But you're right, he deserves a starting place every week and if he doesn't get that this season he will probably go elsewhere.

He's not much better on the left. If fact he doesn't even stick to any position, he just floats about like Sterling

Martial is not a Mourinho type player. He hates defending and is pretty selfish at times. Sanchez over Matial on the LW everyday of the week for me. United need a RW who can cross.

Yeah agree about his defensive inability, both Rashford and Sanchez are much better tracking back. Who would you suggest should play on the right then, Rashford? Mata? Or a new signing?

Aguero/Auba, Firmino and 7.0 (Tosun, Zaha, Arnie) seems to be most popular. I want both Aguero and Auba so going with a 4.5 third striker but hoping someone like Ings moves somewhere or Niasse starts for Everton.

Yes, that first option appeals esp if you go with Arnie. Not sure I like 4.5 forwards - so few returns from one of the highest point scoring positions in ff.

Who to pick of these? Or who are the top two most promising players of these?

    A. Jota
    B. Sessegnon
    C. Fabregas(if nailed)
    D. Elyounoussi
    E. Maddison

    Thanks.

      C & A if Fabregas nailed.

However I do think everyone apart from Fabregas is yet to prove themselves and are in what could be considered much weaker teams.

I am tempted to avoid Fulham/Wolves etc. apart from there 5m options

    De Gea

    Azpil, Robertson, Mendy

    Mane, Eriksen, Kenedy, Fernandinho

    Aguero, Firmino, Wood

    Subs: Fabianski, Soares, Douglas, Cairney

Is my midfield too week or am I overthinking it?

I’d say gundogan over fernandinho. Atleast for the first couple of gameweeks.
