Captains

Aguero early Gameweek 9 captain favourite as Salah deals with injury

Sergio Aguero (£11.3m) and Mohamed Salah (£12.8m) are thought to be the leading candidates for the Gameweek 9 captaincy.

They face Burnley and Huddersfield respectively, two rather favourable fixtures.

You can now vote in the latest captain poll either at the bottom of this article or on the side-bar of our home page.

The Manchester City man may have the advantage over Salah given that the Egyptian picked up a muscle injury over the international break.

The current thinking is that Salah’s knock is not too serious although Fantasy Premier League managers will still want to hear from Jurgen Klopp before making a final decision.

Meanwhile, Aguero was not involved over the international break at all, for the second time this season. Another rest for the Argentinian, after an ongoing injury problem, has some Fantasy managers hoping that manager Pep Guardiola won’t manage his minutes so often anymore.

Anyone still worried Aguero’s game-time may still consider one of his attacking colleagues in either Raheem Sterling (£11.1m), David Silva (£8.5m) or even Kevin De Bruyne (£9.7m) if Guardiola passes him fit. Man City does look a source of plenty of options this week as no team has allowed more shots on goal this season than Burnley.

Liverpool’s trip to Huddersfield still holds some promise though, so Sadio Mané (£9.9m) and Roberto Firmino (£9.3m) may also receive some attention in the poll, especially if Salah loses the fitness race.

Eden Hazard (£11.3m) faces a tougher fixture as Manchester United come to Stamford Bridge, but the Chelsea man may still get a look-in for the captaincy.

Only four teams have conceded more goals than the Red Devils in the last four Gameweeks, and they have been breached the same number of times as typically leaky Bournemouth and Huddersfield during that time.

Furthermore, Hazard still has just one blank in 2018/19 even managing to score against the transformed Liverpool defence in Gameweek 7.

Top differentials may still include Alexandre Lacazette (£9.6m) who increased his goal involvement tally for the season to eight in Gameweek 8. He and his Arsenal colleagues are at home against Leicester, a side they scored four goals past in last year’s corresponding fixture.

Richarlison (£6.8m) and Gylfi Sigurdsson (£7.4m) may also receive outside considerations as Everton are in-form and host a struggling Crystal Palace side in Gameweek 9.

Bottomed last page. any Ideas here? have 1ft and 0m itb. Also have a WC

    Patricio — foster
Alonso Robbo Doherty shaw —- awb
Salah Maddison Richarlison — Stephens Camarasa
    Kun kane king

    Assuming salah is fit:
A: shaw >> dunk and next week do Stephens/Kane > hazard/Jimenez (-4). Would prefer to bring hazard in gw10 after the united match

B: shaw >> dunk and WC in gw10 to bring in hazard, arnie, Mitro, remove foster

    If salah is injured:
    C: Salah + Shaw >> Hazard + Mendy (-4)
D: salah >> sterling and then WC in gw10 as planned to bring back Salah (if fit), hazard, arnie,Mitro

If I owned Kane, I'd captain him (but thankfully I don't) I think over Sterling. I'd captain Sterling over Hazard though, contrary to opinion on here I see this being a tight game.

    Bottomed.

Any thoughts on what to do with my 2 FT?

    Patricio
    Alonso - Robbo - Mendy
    Mane - Hazard - Knockaert - Richa - Maddison
    Aguero - WIlson

    McCharty - Ings - Bennett - AWB.

    2FT / 3.2ITB

Im leaning towards McCarthy > 4.0 but would appreciate some input if there someting Im overlooking.

        McCharty > 4.0/3.9
        Knockaert > KDB
        Wilson - Arnie
        Ings > 4.4

Possible but flip side argument is that it could have the opposite effect if he misses. Might not be a good idea to give an out of form player, who's not a reknowned penalty taker, pens.

    Salah, Hazard, Richarlison, Maddison, 4.4

Burnley are not anyway near as solid as last season (kicking myself as I made a mistake bringing in Mee for the Cardiff & Hud fix)!
Apart from that result against an out of sorts Bouremouth, they have been poor this season!
Kun(C) at home to Burnley is as easy a captaincy pick as I've ever had (even if I knew that he'd only play 60mins)!

Looks like I'm likely to bench Bennett's CS for the third time on the trot, but I guess that I can't really play him ahead of any of these?
    GTG?

    Ederson
    Robertson / Alonso / Trippier
    Hazard / Mane / Maddy / Fraser
    (K)un / Laca / Mitro
    (Hamer, Bennett, AWB, Guendouzi)

Really? Fancy Leicester to bag a goal or two v Arsenal and he has been scoring points, hard to drop for Bennett! In saying that Wolves CS's have been hurting me a little! Just need to hope that Deeney & Gray break Wolves hearts on Saturday!

      Perfect.
Richarlison is the obvious missing link but you dropped him for the betterment of team. And you can do Fraser to Richa and Laca to Arnie after 2 weeks.

Yeah, can always get Rich back in at some stage if needs be, not 100% convinced on Everton yet but Rich up front now is so tempting especially if he nails that place! Cheers mate!

Anyone still sitting with Hazza Kane?
He has a pretty decent record against West Ham.
Keeping him for this week or getting rid?

I think I will give him this week, but mainly because other potential problems, Shaw, Salah, Fraser all doubtful. Im not keeping Kane for more than WestHam though. Worried I dont have Aguero so might change my mind before weekend.

I'm keeping Kane for the season...well planning too anyway...but for those who got him just for the Cardiff game, I'd keep for West Ham...WHU are playing are suicidal defensive formation, and Kane has a good record against them.

Ugh, can Southgate stop picking Kane for every single minute of every single pointless England friendly match.

Hmm, I disagree, I know technically you're correct, but really isn't this league of nations set up just a cheap way to glorify friendlies...because everyone agrees that mid season national friendlies are entirely pointless.

Do Kane owners feel comfortable keeping him if Eriksen is ruled out against West ham?

      Very comfortable.
The brilliance of Eriksen isn't required to 'unlock' this West Ham defence.

Spurs scored once against the Mighty Cardiff at home. Away to West ham is usually low scoring

Have you seen how WHU have been defending this season?
Suicidal high line, with two young central defenders who are not only new to the team, but new to the country.

Everyone captaining Aguero as the obvious choice because of how many goals Burnley have been conceding...but they've still conceded less than WHU.

The side that stopped Chelsea from scoring. Cardiff are worse than West ham defensively. The issue is that spurs are not playing well

WHU have conceded 4 in last 5 league games. That's including games vs Chelsea, Man Utd, and Everton

The big difference is that Cardiff were expecting a dubbing. So they played a very deep defensive line...this means Kane has to drop off to pick up the ball...and the idea is that he drags the central defenders out of position with him.

West Ham don't have the same mentality. Did you watch the first game of the season against Liverpool? They went there and attempted to press them high, with a high defensive line....leaving space behind for TAA and Robertson to exploit...the same way Trippier and Rose will, and got smashed 4-0 (I think?)

From a footballing perspective...not just stats, Spurs are better suited to playing against WHU than they were against Cardiff....or any team which sits deep.

To a degree, West ham have sorted themselves out of the early season mess. West ham have been poor defensively in previous seasons yet manage to be competitive in this fixture. A london derby which is usually a tight affair

Burnley have also begun to show some form after balancing the PL with Europa qualifiers.

This is really a conversation between someone who owns Kane, and someone who doesn't, isn't it? But to answer your question, yes I feel comfortable, and the main reason for feeling comfortable is that from watching WHU they don't look good defensively to me, and play right into Spurs hands with the set up.

2FT. 0.3itb. Need an extra pair of eyes to help assess the team.

    Henn, Hamer
    Alonso, Tripp, AWB, Doherty, Bennet
    Salah, Haz, Rich, Fraser, Hoj
    Kun, Laca, Wilson

Planning to do Tripp --> TAA or Robbo this week.

GW10. Henn --> Fab or Ryan.

    Good idea? Thanks!

You already know that Hennessey is getting you nothing this week, why delay the transfer by a week imo? Do both moves this week imo.

well true that. I'm leaning more towards Fab but playing against Spurs this week hence the delay for another week. Ryan on the other hand, thought would like to assess how Bright's def for another week too.

But yea, might just pull the trigger this week.

Don't think Spurs is necessarily a bad fixture for West Ham's defensive prospects given all their injuries and out of form players. Brighton didn't concede to Newcastle last year.

But equally there's not much harm in waiting for another week's worth of data to help you decide between the two, no.

I would hold transfer and aim to redistribute the Kane cash by next GW. Don't really like the early Kdb hype and would not plan to get him in this early. Would not try to get him in for his first appearance, all of the times i've tried to get injured players in on their debut failed miserably...

I was pleased with my team and planned to do 2 trades and get in Robbo or TAA. Of course Salah gets injured and craps all over my plan. He'll probably (???) be fine and will start the game vs HUD but i still need an emergency plan dependent on what Jürgen says... Any tips?

    Hart - Foster
    Trippier - Alonso - Pereira - Doherty - AWB
    Salah - Maddison - Richarlison - Hazard - Ward
    Kün - Wilson - Mitro

If you have 2FTs and Salah is confirmed injured (which I doubt will happen) then couldn't you just do Salah to Mane, and then any of your defenders to Robertson?

Been thinking about salah -> mané, pereira -> robbo and get trippier downgraded to next GW. There is a a little piece of me that is interested in Salah -> Sterling but then i probably need another Pool asset. Don't want to sit with robbo alone from liverpool during their fixtureswing
