Should FPL managers sign Ross Barkley for Gameweek 11?

Ross Barkley‘s (£5.8m) 17-point haul against Burnley has already made him the top transfer target ahead of Gameweek 11.

At the time of writing, he has been signed by 173,000+ managers as Chelsea prepare to host Crystal Palace.

But is Barkley worth bringing into our teams or is recruiting him for our squads simply a kneejerk reaction to a double-figure haul?

That’s the question we hope to answer with this latest Members’ Article.

So we are sure now that Mendy will not be facing any ban for his swing at Lamela?

On wildcard and my focus is to win my mini league. (Repost)

Option A, B or C what would you choose?

    A

    Gk Fabianski Hamer
D Alonso Mendy Duffy Doherty Lovren
M Salah Hazard Kayal Barkley Fraser
    F Aguero Wilson Murray

    B

    Gk Ederson Hamer
D Alonso Mendy Duffy Doherty Schindler
M Salah Hazard Camarasa Barkley Fraser
    F Aguero Wilson Murray

    C

    Gk Fabianski Hamer
D Alonso Wan-Bissaka Duffy Doherty Schindler
M Salah Hazard Mane Barkley Fraser
    F Aguero Wilson Kamara

Wanted to get Salah in and keep Hazard and Aguero to get the most likely big hitters my opponents just behind me in my mini league have. Mane is also dangerous but is it too unbalanced in the rest of the team if I do that?

    Thanks!

a short version would be better for comparison... 😮

on first look, midfield in A and B feels weak. So, I would go for C

      1. Newsman70

Fair points and thanks. So short version woukd be:

A Fabianski Lovren Mendy Kayal Murray

        B Ederson Mendy Schindler
        Camarasa Murray

C Fabianski Wan-Bissaka Schindler Mane Kamara

Mane is obviously well worth a couple of downgrades. No City defender though?

yep, for next 4-5 weeks, he will probably do well.

if willing to, you can downgrade Alonso to City or Liverpool defender which will give lil bit cash to get a Wolves/WHM/NEW defender for Schindler and maybe Success for Kamara

Sergio Agüero - £11.3 is not jusifying his price tag this season. Seeing way more value in City Mid..

Gunna have to be Kun or Auba and then Mahrez in if he can carry his form.

other than liv and tot, his last 5 returns has been: 6, 8, 6, 7, 6

Nothing special but good enough consistency for that price imo... finding alternative option is also an issue.

      1. Eze Really?
        • 9 Years
        5 years, 6 months ago

It is the alternative. Auba poor fixtures but conversion rate amazing is about the only 1 in the price range. Firmino not firing, Vardy at odds with the manager so really looking to stick all the money in mids and defenders.

Really struggling here with what to change; do I just go with a bench switch? Not sure I want to lose Mitrovic ahead of his fixture this week, Ings is a problem but I don't see viable replacements. Cairney to a 4.5?

2 FTs, 0.2 ITB, WC in hand.

    Patricio/Hamer
    Mendy/Alonso/Robertson/Bennett/Wan-B
    Salah/Hazard/Richarlison/Fraser/Cairney
    Aguero/Mitrovic/Ings

    Any suggestions would be great.

    1. Eze Really?
      • 9 Years
      5 years, 6 months ago

Ings can come right and good price. Cairney your 8th forward so all is sweet.
Might be radical but I would change Patricio to Fabianski.

I am considering that, but worried that it could backfire massively. I'm even thinking about just not making a transfer, but that just instinctively feels insane.

He just makes more saves than anyone else. You can pay the extra 1 mil plus and get a premium. I have never rolled a transfer without gain before. It must be a first for you if you do it. You could do a Salah/Sterling and reverse next week?

      kun/mitro/ings

Hey ive got 2ft, thinking to get Mendy in by doing Tomkins>Mendy and Neves>Murphy:
    Hart/Fab
    Robbo, Trippier, WB, Tomkins, Boly
    Salah, Haz, Bilva, Fraser, Neves
    Laca, Wilson, Mitro

Have a similar conundrum. I think this makes sense. You’re quite heavy on Bou given their fixtures so that will need addressing too. Another option to consider would be moving to two up top. But Neves needs to go at some point anyway.

I can downgrade Fraser to bench fodder and upgrade AWB to Mendy (ie. move to 4 at a back).

Views welcome on whether that’s worth it. Feel like I need City defensive coverage.

My mf is Hazard, Mane, Sterling, Richa, and Camarasa. I have just enough cash to upgrade Camarasa to Barkley. Or my non playing defender to a 5.2m (rest of defence are Robertson, Alonso, Bennet and AWB). Up front Laca, Mitro and Wilson (which i can bench this gw over Barkley).

          was expecting 2 stuff:

          - rise of fresh premium assets (from Spurs/Arsenal)
          - fall of current template

both are looking unlikely to happen with premium defenders from Man city/Liverpool/Chelsea still doing well and Salah-Hazard pretty much taking 2 important spots in midfield. Nothing special from Spurs yet, Arsenal's shaky defense.

Overall, none of those 2 teams are appealing at the moment

Thanks. I agree with you re Spurs; at least this far but I think Trippier is certainly worth considering around that time. I am toying with going with 4 premiums at the back and light up top if I WC then.

Re Arsenal, I think Lacazette and Auba certainly look attractive come GW15, shame none of their mids do, unless Mesut maintains his form.

    B) Richarlison to Martial

Not sure I would go with either. Laporte will only get you a max of 6 pts every week and Richarlison could do serious damage in Everton’s upcoming home fixtures (probably subject to being moved back to the wing)

I wouldn't call B an upgrade really. Richarlison is a dangerous player and quite nailed on. Martial is great but not sure about his longevity. So A looks more decent still a bit risky. But defence is always a risk.

You will need to start all over again. You have 2 non playing defenders in Holebas and Stankovic and a non playing midfielder in Westwood.

8/10 But Holebas a risk. Can you downgrade Boruc and maybe Richarlison for Siggy to get pool/city/Chelsea def?

There are 9 GW’s in 5 weeks after the IB - I’d say try to structure your WC so you have 15 players (maybe 14 if getting Ederson/Alison)

Utilise the pool of Ings, Jiminez, Fraser, Wilson, King, Nacho, Barkley etc

    Good morning

    Which is better? 2ft
    A) Stephens to Barkley
    B) Fraser to Maddison
Both will allow Wilson to Arnie

Murphy over Barkley with 2 plum fixtures in better team? Have not considered Murphy at all

Murphy is their talisman. Barkley is far from certain to start both those games.

I think C is sensible. The squad looks thin to me and that will help with squad depth.

Hey guys, best mid for 6.1m or less? Was looking at Fraser but quite difficult fixtures coming up. Is he the best pick?

    Cheers

I like Murphy myself but Fraser should still be a decent option. Though I don't think this is the time to bring him in. You could save a mil and go with Brooks. Pereyra is another good option.

I think I have to make the move and ditch Pedro in my draft team (I also have Moura so two non performing midfielders!) but looking at the available waiver list, no one is really inspiring me!

Would you guys swap Pedro for any of Fernandinho, Capoue, Seri, Moutinho, Wijnaldum, Milovojevic, Xhaka, Kante, Jorginho, m, Ndidi, Hughes, Lennon?

All those players with the exception of perhaps Seri who I ditched for Deulofeu last week are DMs who have had one or two great game weeks rather than any consistency so not what I’m looking for in an H2H league ideally.

Floating further down the available list are Kenedy, Sanchez, Iwobi, Mkhitarian but rotation means not worth the risk on those except for Kenedy who isn’t exactly firing!

Any thoughts folks or should I just hold and bench and hope for change or inspiration later?

I would bring in Sanchez and play the long game.

      1. Merlinho
        • 14 Years
        5 years, 6 months ago

And then keep him benched until he shows signs of starting consistently?

It’s no different to what I’m doing with Pedro but just wanted to get out of that cycle if I could - I get your thinking though.

It is no different. However, if he shows some consistency then he has a huge upside. If you are looking at the likes of Ndidi and can pick up Sanchez it looks a no brainer to me. Throw him as last sub for now and wait for the winter games to start.

          1. Merlinho
            • 14 Years

Yeah, I wasn’t seriously considering Ndidi really, I just listed the top scoring available players. I’d hold ahead of all those I think.

I suppose the one thing to consider is that Pedro is possibly back this week isn’t he, had that dodgy bug that’s been going around?

So I’ll think about snapping up Sanchez while below the radar given I’m near the top of the league, or sticking for a week or two.

Which is the better long term option:
    A - Sterling + Jimenez (1st sub)
B - Salah + Kamara (AWB or Hojbjerg 1st sub)

@David Munday, what’s the conclusion to your Barkley article?

    For everyone to guess?
You should really give your opinion and answer the question you aksed in your own headline.

This is perhaps the most crucial question in this entire analysis. The answer is a simple one: we are not completely sure.

I can decide for myself but he was introduced as an experienced journalist. He should then know that it’s better to answer the question you ask in your headline

And as a now key figure of FFS, I feel he should take position (might be literally translated from French, that, sorry if not ok in English), say what he thinks

The scouts get criticised for spoon feeding us all and telling us what to do. They can’t win! I’d much rather read the article and make my own mind up

You should listen to the FML FPL podcast, it’s hilarious, they are the exact opposite in that they absolutely nail their hearts to their sleeve and don’t hesitate to draw conclusions (sometimes crazily)

Barkley for example I think one of them described as a complete non-option for another few games, which I don’t really agree with, but very well done

Yeah my opinion is that Barkley is still a risky punt, but a good one considering his form, fixtures and price. Im considering him but also would like to get Arnautovic and Mendy, so...

He’s clearly laid out the stats with pros and cons and then it’s up to you to make a decision? His minutes look to be the only con but that’s a pretty big factor

He has presented everything to you and now it's up to you how you interpret them (which is what this game is all about). Do you need to be spoon fed everything?
