Captains

Captain Sensible – Richarlison tops poll in complicated Gameweek 13 debate

Gameweek 13 of Fantasy Premier League could prove the most difficult for the captaincy this season.

Both Manchester City and Liverpool are on the road this weekend which robs us of the opportunity to back a Salah or Aguero home captaincy.

Meanwhile, Chelsea travel to Spurs leaving the door open for a differential to prove the most popular. But is he the right option to go with?…

Captain Poll

Gameweek 13 sees a surprise leader emerge at the top of the poll in Everton’s Richarlison (£7.0m). No player has garnered more than the Brazilian’s 33.47% backing in the vote so far and when we dig a little deeper, it’s easy to see why. The makeshift centre-forward has three goals and one assist since Gameweek 8, recording an average of 6.6 points per match in his last five league outings. This weekend he goes up against a Cardiff City side conceding 2.2 goals per away match this season.

Below Richarlison is a selection of captaincy household names that have not quite earned the usual support from their owners. Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) and Sergio Aguero (£11.5m) have rotated home fixtures quite nicely so far this season but both of them are away this weekend. For that reason, just 22.53% of our voters think Salah is worth captaining at Watford with even fewer (16.89%) supporting Aguero at West Ham.

The last time the pair were ruled out of the captaincy (when they faced each other in Gameweek 8) we were fortunate enough to see Eden Hazard (£11.3m) present a favourable trip to Southampton. This week Chelsea are away at Tottenham, pulling the Belgian out of widespread consideration. Accordingly, he looks set for a 10th-place finish in the captain poll with just 1.59% of the votes.

Raheem Sterling (£11.2m) heads up the best of the rest outside of the this week’s top three with 4.73% backing, after two goals and three assists in the last three Gameweeks.

He is followed by Anthony Martial (£7.6m), whose six goals in five matches has convinced 3.93% of you that he is the optimum captain for Gameweek 13 when Manchester United host Crystal Palace.

After that, it’s Salah’s Liverpool colleague Sadio Mané (£9.9m) with a 1.94% share.

Matt Doherty‘s (£4.9m) potential for big returns against Huddersfield has convinced 1.68% of our voters to back him for the armband, no defender has more backing for Gameweek 13.

Despite boasting more encouraging underlying statistics than team-mate Richarlison, Gylfi Sigurdsson (£7.5m) sits way down in ninth on the captain poll. That is almost certainly as a result of his current fitness issues, although his price does mean that his ownership is 20.6% lower than his Brazilian colleague.

So curious to know how many of you ended up taking a hit this GW after the Mendy news?

I'm surely going to see many -4's in my mini-league including myself 🙂 (unless FT's where saved)

Yes it does look good for you then. Unfortunately I had no choice since I had already planned to bring in Sterling as part of my strategy.

Why the rush to get rid of Mane? It's not like Salah is killing it? Mane has bursts of good play while Salah might be more consistent.
For the time being i'm holding to Mane for cheaper route and getting Sterling instead of Aguero. I'm using three cheaper forward routes and going big on mids, except for Salah for now.

same here, ditched Aguero last GW & want to get Sterling for one of Mane/Salah/Hazard.

Last month I had found myself with over 2.5m (and still do) ITB because I was swapping constantly between Sterling, Salah and Aguero, but now I decided to leave Aguero out permanently and directly swap between Sterling and Salah according to fixtures, whilst always keeping Mane.

I do not neccessarily swap them every week. If I see that fixtures are even from both ends, I bank the transfer.

This reminds me of the loss of faith in Alonso just a few weeks ago
Reactions. Reactions everywhere, rather than predictions

We play a predictive game in FPL. You have a nailed left winger playing for Liverpool who's capable of both expected and unexpected bursts of goals, and patience runs thin because he isn't scoring every other week

Mane has six goals this season, most of which were deserved (I know. I said most 😀 ), a disallowed goal, and 12 attempted assists in 11 game weeks (someone's wasting 'em...)

Please point out the many wonders of the world in the premium price bracket who have scored much more and attempted more assists

        1. Pep Pig
          • 7 Years

I expect Mane to have a stormer this week. To respond well after the international boo boys and also signing a new contract.

Very true. My patience has a bigger fuse than a few others, but once I've had enough with that player, I rarely get him back into my team that season !

Guys I am at a total loss, playing around with all sorts of options.
I have 2FT (saved for this week after IB) and I want rid of Barkley. I was going to do:

Barkley and Mane for Sane and Fraser but been put off by Liverpool's ok run and Bmouth, after this week, being tougher.

    I definitely want Barkley out.

    0.0itb

Help would be most appreciated, as I don't want to not use a transfer.

    Rest of team is

    Hart - Button
    Doherty - Bennett - AWB - Robbo - Yedlin
    Salah - Haz - Rich
    Jim - Arnie - Aguero

    Cheers guys

There is a reason you doubled up on Liverpool attack, and the 15-points-each Cardiff haul was justification for this, just a few GWs ago. With 4 shots against Fulham and one nice save from their keeper denying Mane, he's certainly been the more explosive and unpredictable of the pair. Highly capable of punishing you once you sell him before a game against a non-top-6 side

I agree with putting out the Barkley fire. Bringing him in at first kinda points at a bit of hastiness in your transfer decisions, so my advice would be to hold. Keep both. Use 2 FTs next week to put fires out. We'll also have more data by then. You could end up getting someone at 4.4M or 4.5M and spending the Barkley funds on a Bennett/Yedlin upgrade

Guys, really appreciate the views and the replies.

I think I am going to stick with Mane.
Barkley good go for Gundogan, I like that, and then i would have 2FT for next week too.

The other option is I get rid of say Yedlin and bring in a 1 week punt at CB (epecially with Robbo potentially out!)

        Thanks again

I agree with Gundogan as well. His eye for goal is scary, no matter the opposition. Only problem is rotation, but yeah. Has to start this game. I highly doubt they'd bring Foden in Bilva's place

2FT 1.1m itb but a bit stuck here...
With doubts over Robertson, the obvious move is Mendy > Doherty but that leaves me with 3 Wolves DEF assets! Also weighing up Wilson > Jiminez so would want to limit it to 2 Wolves. Maybe Bennett to Doherty?

    Thoughts?

    What’s better to pick:
    A) Fraser vs Ars (H)
    B) Jimenez vs Hud (H) and -4 pts

captaining richa is crazy IMO. it's a hit or miss with him, could be a one pointer or a double digit haul. Aguero on the other hand will defo get at least 7 pts if he starts and city score 3 goals or more when which is highly likely.

      Not crazy at all.
Captaining Aguero week after week is so incredibly boring. Especially when he gets his 6 points. Yes Rich might blank but if he doesn’t it’ll feel so so good.

I agree gee gee. FPL is about creating your own luck. An Everton striker in form against Cardiff is far from crazy

I'm not captaining Rich. Burned once already this season captaining vs FUL who are an even worse defensive team.

Everton score 3 and Rich does nothing. Cardiff are in better form and have shown they can keep it competitive by only letting one in vs Tot away. Coupled with the fact he's been sort of injured, sort of not and also played for Brazil, it's best to not do it.

Going with Salah and playing safe. He's had a whole week to rest, Watford defense has performed well recently, but it's also quite unsettled since they've changed personnel a lot. They need to be super disciplined to hold Liv and I don't think they can. This is why we buy the Salah's of the game - to have a safe captain pick when none of the other big games offer an obvious option.

I agree. Can't see Watford not having a go, which should provide lots of counterattacking opportunities.

Kun has had 2 weeks off
      Penalties
I reckon with Sane most prob playing we might be in for a Kun hole

Looks good. I had Arnie on bench but now Fraser, what do you think of that?
Arnie more threat but ManCity dont concede many goals so its tough.

It’s a tough call. Robbo might not play so I’ll play both anyway.

Fraser more inform and against a weaker defence/team. Bournemouth are better than West Ham right now also so I think there’s a high term probability of Fraser doing well.

Good to go? I quite like my team, which means its due to do badly.

    Patricio (Hamer)
Alonso - TAA - Laporte (AWB, Bennett)
Haz - Salah - Martial - Richarlison (Hojbjerg)
    Aguero - Wilson - Arnie

I'm playing Bennett over Arnie. Just can't see West Ham scoring unless Ederson concedes a PK again.

          Comments from Klipperty;

''Robertson only returned to training today after two very intense international games.''

Speculation is rife that he'll be rested for the all important CL game against PSG in midweek.

Long term he's still a great pick.

...but yes, try and save your transfer decisions until after international, or cup games if possibly.

It doesn't...but if you have any money in the bank and could fund Peltier, or even Wan Bissaka to someone like Bennett, people fancy him to return a CS this week.
