Scoutcast Episode 282 – Battling

The community reached out to the Scoutcast crew this week for help in battling against an emerging template led by Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian’s 50% ownership and six double-digit points returns in his last eight starts have left Fantasy Premier League managers forced to look for other options in the search for a significant green arrow.

Joe, David and Az consider some key strategies to counter the high ownership of players such as Salah, as well as Manchester United’s Paul Pogba.

Doubling up on attacking options is among suggestions made by Joe, especially as this has proved a successful tactic in seasons past.

Az instead has been looking for differential captains, with Raheem Sterling the latest to be handed the armband in an attempt to beat Salah backers.

Meanwhile, David is following the advice of 2014/15 champion Simon March in keeping the game simple. He advocates backing obvious selections who are in good form and leaving others to make risky, and perhaps calamitous, moves.

Elsewhere, the crew look back on their Gameweek 23 scores, find out about the community’s roughest and smoothest recent moves and also consider the merits of drafting in last weekend’s hat-trick hero, Wolverhampton’s cut-price midfielder Diogo Jota.

Impending blank and double Gameweeks also come under scrutiny, in particular, the merits of investing heavily in Manchester City, who are among teams set to see matches postponed due to cup commitments.

The possibility of a double Gameweek 25 makes the outcomes of this week’s League and FA Cup games crucial to David, Joe and Az’s transfer plans as they finish off with a look at Gameweek 24’s likely moves, best differentials and possible clean sheets.

Quite the opposite I'd have thought. Kun tonight, Jesus in the cup at the weekend, Kun next midweek v Newcastle.

It's gone all very Arsenal, with Spurs not spending money to facilitate new stadium. Once there revenue streams increase maybe they will loosen the purse again.

Brought in a good manager, good signings and Spurs have kept their good players for longer than you’d expect.

Is this based on just spending money they dont have?

Sold Bale, Modric. Done well with that money.

But they are close to being a title contender. It would only take two of Poch, Alli, Eriksen or Kane to leave to bring it all down. Can Spurs keep them if they don't show more ambition?

Kane is probably the best striker in the world. Can they keep him regardless? He should be playing for an ultra-club. Whatever the apparent ambition, he should be playing for better.

Eriksen has been there for coming up 6 years I think?

How much money would they have to spend to realistically compete with City? If it was being stingy with £50m, then okay, but that wont really cut it imo.

          This is Spurs afterall.

More ambition? What find a new owner who has terrible history in murky markets that spends way beyond the club’s revenues? Abramovic bought Chelsea because he had a number on his head and wanted to be in the public eye so if he got murdered it would be noticed. He has moats around the perimeter of his house in cobham for this very reason. Or how about a government funded club like Man City that would be nowhere near as successful if they didn’t invent a load of ‘sponsorship’ deals which were just a way of getting Abu Dhabi to pay for a load of ridiculously priced players. This question is everything that’s wrong with the premier league and modern football. Spurs have ‘only’ managed to get up to 3rd ahead of better financed clubs. I’m a United fan but get some perspective for God’s sake.

I don't disagree with your points, however the reality is that they have the best first XI they've probably had since the 60s but unfortunately it's coincided with the new stadium where they've over invested (Was supposed to cost £400m, now costing £1bn), meaning they can't supplement that quality XI with a squad capable of challenging City et al, and they'll be less able to fend off a £1-200m bid for any of their best players.

You’re right. They should speak to one of the biggest club’s in the world, someone like Barcelona... yeah they’re a massive club, no one in their right mind would leave Barca for anyone, no matter what the money.... oh wait... yeah there’s that other club that are owned by the Qatar government, they don’t even need to worry about ‘FFP’ because they will just invent state projects that will player will pay the player for their ‘support’. Anyway, should probably speak to Barca to find out how we can reach their level within the confines of our current ownership... that way we’ll keep Kane and Poch

Just incredible how anyone could think this, how long have you been watching football?

Spurs used to be like Newcastle and Everton. All 3 just behind the much bigger clubs. Now after years under Levy, you consider Spurs in the top group of clubs. What happened to the other two?

Daniel Levy is the reason why Spurs are top 6 PL side and Villa are in Championship. Spurs were bottom of table when Redknapp took over couple years after Martin O' Neill had joined Villa. MON was allowed to spend like a drunken sailor giving high wages to junk like Zat Knight, Heskey, Habib Beye etc. Levy never allowed this

Van dijk. Rudiger. Doherty. Wan Bissaka. Kiko Femenia.
Salah. Hazard. Pogba. F. Anderson. Billing.
    Rashford. Jimenez. Kamara.

3.9 in the bank. I want to replace F. Anderson, so what to do...?

    A). F. Anderson > Jota ( But then I would have 3 Wolves players )
    B). F Anderson > Sigurdsson
    C). F. Anderson > Sane
    D). F. Anderson > Someone else

Homegrown rules means it makes sense for City to 'carry' him in the squad for depth, they would have to overpay for some other English player (see transfer fees for Stones and Walker) so may as well keep him on the books

        Siggy > Richarlison
        Brooks > Fraser
        Lacazette > Aubameyang

        Lukaku, silva, Kev, Sanchez?

The options are definitely out there.

No thanks. ~$5m defenders is where the sweet spot is: PVA, Digne, Pereira, Doherty, TAA, and Kola.

    Change my mind.

England are the best international football team with the best upcoming youngsters in the world.

Watch any of the previous World Cup to realise England are a long long way from being a top international team

There are some promising youngsters but until there is more focus on technical ability (like Pep is coaching) and more opportunities for young English players in the premiership, England won’t progress to the next level

France or Brazil still imo. Don't get me wrong though, some good players coming up from the home countries though for sure

England are the best placed team to make a balls of the best upcomig youngsters in the world -

      a) Because England always have notions about football 'invented it' etc (Imperialist hangover)

      b) The British media will destroy the youngsters at the first chance

      c) Most will get too much money too soon and it will kill thier desire

      d) It will be another lost gloden generation for England - as the other countries quietly work away improving

"Enceradeira" (Portuguese for "floor polisher") = Zinho, Brazilian midfielder (nickname given as a mockery, regarding his playing style where he constantly went around in circles) 😀
