Fixtures

First FPL Double Gameweek of the season confirmed

The Premier League have announced there will be two Manchester City and Everton fixtures in a Double Gameweek 25.

The two clubs’ postponed fixture from Gameweek 27, caused by City’s commitment to the League Cup final, has been brought forward to sit in the round of matches after the next one.

Everton will host Pep Guardiola’s men on Wednesday 6 February.

Manchester City’s combination of Arsenal (home) and Everton (away) is perhaps not quite as exciting as if Chelsea had been handed a Double Gameweek 25, but still offers them a chance for plenty of attacking returns.

However, it will be hard to pick out the key players who will start both of them given Pep Guardiola’s selection policy during his time at the Etihad Stadium.

Not only will the turnaround time between the Arsenal and Everton matches be short, just four days after the trip to Goodison Park comes an important Sunday afternoon meeting with Chelsea in Gameweek 26.

Perhaps the only players likely to play both matches in Double Gameweek 25 for Manchester City are Ederson (£5.6m) and Aymeric Laporte (£5.9m), with plenty of options to rotate others around them.

Everton’s doubles don’t offer the same level of potential with Wolves their opponents already scheduled for that Gameweek.

Crucially, with Double Gameweek clubs then having a Blank in Gameweek 27, there will have to be careful management from Fantasy managers. They may want to stock up on Double Gameweek players for Gameweek 25, but they will be effectively useless in Blank Gameweek 27.

Some of the cheaper options such as Laporte or Lucas Digne (£5.3m) would be easier to bench,  but the likes of Raheem Sterling (£11.3m), Leroy Sané (£9.7m) and Sergio Aguero (£11.2m) being inactive could make fielding a strong XI without taking hits a difficult task.

That particular dilemma could see some managers opt to use the Free Hit chip either in Double Gameweek 25 or Blank Gameweek 27, although it could have a bigger impact when the bigger Blank Gameweeks occur later in the campaign.

Also, Gameweek 25 could be the first time this season that a real opportunity for the deployment of the Triple Captain has presented itself.

Later opportunities to use the chip would include Gameweeks 32 or 35, which are currently expected to be Doubles, although the Bench Boost and Free Hit chips, as well as the second Wildcard, also need to be considered.

With the Bench Boost and Free Hit offering better potential in the bigger Double Gameweeks, and the Triple Captain only capable of affecting one match, the make-up of Double Gameweek 25 would present an appealing case for the chip.

Triple Captain aside, Fantasy managers will have to choose whether they want to use the Doubles to influence their armband decision at all. There will, of course, be the option to stick with the tried and tested, and captain a more reliable player even if they only have one fixture.

Recent standout candidate Mohamed Salah (£13.6m) will be away at West Ham in Gameweek 25, where he scored on his most recent league visit in August 2017. Furthermore, he has six double-figure hauls in his last eight Premier League matches.

Trippier, Robertson, AWB, Digne are my defenders.

I'm getting rid of Chillwell. I'll have 6.9 ITB. I'm considering downgrading to Duffy who has a fairly kind schedule running out the remainder of the year. This gives me a few extra monies to move into the offense.

Who else should I target if I don't go budget? Double Liverpool? Consider Mendy again? Luiz or gamble on Alonso?

Burnley def have guaranteed fixtures during blank gameweeks, depends on how you plan to navigate really.

Burley are just super poor and BH have a better remaining schedule. A single blank week isn't going to hurt with those defenders I have.

Double Liverpool is good. I have it (albeit with the on/off TAA).

Too early to consider Mendy. Luiz/Alonso is a good shout, but no need to rush on it.

I had him then TAA left for Trippier when the injury news came. He's probably first on my list of the non-budget options.

    Fabianski
    Robertson / TAA* / Doherty / Digne
    Salah / Hazard / Pogba / Martial
    Rashford / Ings

    Hamer // Arnautovic / AWB / Camarasa

Fine with the team for this week, but given the DGW situation, I could:

    1) GW24: Hamer > Ederson (bench Fab)
    2) GW25: Martial/Camarasa > Sané/Jota

Sound good. Or is losing Martial too risky? He's been decent but of course not scoring points, besides in the FA Cup.

Team as-is, would be fine in GW27, even with benching Ederson, Sané, Hazard, Digne (one of the latter three will likely be sold anyway.)

Surely it's prudent to save any transfers this week so we have as much information as possible for the double game week. Be useful to know City's midweek line up plus any injury news. Imagine if either Aguero or Jesus get crocked or suspended and how it would effect the triple captain decision.

Yeah but who will you bring in? Sane is a given. The others are rotation risks or shite: Digne - Everton will get mauled by City; Rich - shite form; Siggy - doesn't have a monopoly on set pieces; Aguero - may be rotated with Jesus; Jesus - may be rotated with Aguero; CM - 4 players for two spots, there will be rotation; Sterling - could be good but will have to rip apart your team for him and then sell him again when he blanks.

        Already own sane sterling siggy

May get in ederson and digne but not sure an everton defender is worth it

          5 years, 3 months ago

How do you feel as a Siggy owner? I am debating getting him this week for the relatively easy Huddersfield fixture and the DGW and then bringing in Son after the DGW. I'd like Sterling but can't fit him in £££. Sane is better value for money I think. I'll be staying clear of an Everton defender that week (in general)

  11. The Big Fella

If it looks good for a left footer then Digne gets a crack at it and if it looks good for a right footer then Siggy gets a crack at it.

So i have no city players.

I had pogba at dirt cheap 7.8 or 7.9 so cant remove him. Hazard is playing against Huddersfield so with higuain coming its wait and see if they click so probably an option to remove him. I have Rich so he also have double. I have salah. So the only remaining player is puncheon.

So how do i bring Sane and sterling?

In forward i have barnes rashford and auba.

For city, every game is vital when they are down 4 points now so probably play kun too.

So what to do and when to do... i only have 1 ft

If your team doesn’t allow City players easily don’t do it. You could downgrade Aubameyang next week but then you’ll want him straight back so not worth it.
