Captains

Captain Sensible – Aguero and Salah in close call for Gameweek 30

Liverpool and Manchester City options look to be the key players in the Gameweek 30 captaincy debate.

Both sides face crucial home fixtures in the Premier League title race and some of their key players have a strong case for the armband.

The Captain Sensible article is here once again to analyse the data of these assets in plenty of detail, as well as the attacking statistics of their teams and defensive capabilities of their opponents.

Captain Poll

In one of the closest calls of the season, it’s been neck-and-neck between Mohamed Salah (£13.4m) and Sergio Aguero (£11.8m) all week in the captain poll. The Egyptian took the lead on Monday but by late Tuesday, the Manchester City man had overtaken him.

At the time of writing, Salah is back on top but not by much. Ahead of Burnley’s trip to Anfield, he has the backing of 28.7% while Aguero has 28.67%.

The secondary options from both clubs are also in the top five with Raheem Sterling (£11.4m) garnering 10% support and Sadio Mané (£9.8m) on 4%.

Jamie Vardy (£8.9m) is the only member of the top five not to play for Liverpool or Manchester City. With Leicester hosting Fulham on Saturday afternoon, the forward has the backing of 4.5% in the vote.

The differential options for Gameweek 30 include some important candidates from previous rounds of fixtures. Paul Pogba (£9.0m) is the best of the rest with 2.3% while Harry Kane (£12.4m) has 1.87% support.

Wilfried Zaha (£6.8m), Eden Hazard (£10.8m) and Patrick van Aanholt (£5.4m) and Michy Batshuayi (£6.5m) are the only other options with more than 1% backing.

    Any of these moves worth a -4 this week?

    Bednarek -> D. Luiz (means benching Jimenez).
    Son -> Maddison/Gray/Barnes/Brooks
    Jimenez -> King

        Just going off his recent vibe of tiredness / poor form. Almost certainly wouldn't do it just chucking it out there.

          A one legged Son would probably score against Southampton.

          I'd keep Son this week, last 2 he played was Ars and Chelsea. Not easy fixtures. Came off after 70 mins in Dortmund, think he could do some damage against Soton.

    Hope a journalist has the bollox to ask Klopp why he persists with a pragmatic midfield. More likely to ask how his week was though.

    Worth doing Shaw Pogba to Azpi MAddison this week, which will allow me to do Jim Kun to Higuain Vardy before 31?

    Also, would you have Maddison of Fraser? Funds no issue.

      Both really good options. Vardy has FUL and their defence is leaking goals all over the show.
      CHS have WOL who are a better team away from home. That's where Doherty gets most of his points anyways.

      Personally went for Vardy but it's such a close call. I own Hazard so was that classic thing of going 1-and-1 rather than attacking double up.

      In favour of Vardy = on pens; slightly more nailed; easier fixture in 30/31.

      Higuain = probably the better player, in the better team; easier fixture in 33.

    Eddie Howe says that Callum Wilson has done some "light training" this week and that he will consult the club's physios regarding the player's involvement agianst Huddersfield this weekend.

    Any point in transfering out Doherty, even if I'm not planning on playing this week? Or save FT for next week?

    Guaita (Fabi)
    Robbo / Lascelles / Digne
    Salah / Mane / Pogba / Fraser / Sterling (C)
    Rashford / Vardy

    Doherty - Bednarek - Long

      Not unless it's for someone you'll start this weekend.

      Assuming you only have 1ft, there is really no point. You can make 2 fts with a lot more information next week then.

      If you're not playing the replacement then wait until next week. Don't think you'll get much benefit with the strength of your team as it is.

      I'm thinking of selling him for Chilwell but who I would start ahead of Hayden this week.

        Yeah - I'm more or less happy with the team, maybe Lascelles/Digne could be moved to the bench if I brought in someone like Chilwell, but no guarantee that will be any better!

    What's the best idea?

    A)
    GW 30: Jimenez, Doherty, Anderson -> Vardy, Ake, Brooks (-4)
    GW 31: Pogba -> Maddison/Fraser/..
    -> This way I keep Son for gameweek 33, Brighton (h)

    B)
    GW 30: Jimenez, Pogba -> Brooks, Vardy
    GW 31: Son -> Hazard

      Prb B for me - Spurs 33 isnt confirmed is it?
      Also depends how much value you have in pogba, i'd lose 0.5 mill on him, and would want him back after 31, so A does not appeal.

      It's a tricky week for benching. I'm currently benching Rice, Pogba and AWB! Full squad is:

      Lloris
      Robbo - TAA - Luiz
      Brooks - Maddison - Salah - Haz
      Jimenez - Rondon - Vardy

      Speroni, Rice, Pogba, AWB

      Generally favouring the home teams - apart from Brooks away at HUD.

          The news that Matic is back for this week may change my mind on Pogba. I'll probably have Rice - Brooks - AWB on the bench in that order. AWB may get a clean sheet, but unlikely to get any more. Rice away to Cardiff and Brooks away to HUD don't promise much, but have a higher upside I reckon.

    kapitaan??

    sterling or salah

    it's a real tough one this week - leaning towards sterling simply cause watford conceded 5 away to liverpool, and city imo are equally capable of doing the same

    furthermore, liverpool have not been rampant against burnley in recent times

    last 2 home games against the clarets: 2-1 and 1-1

      I'm going Sterling and have both of those. I think the fixture and form are both marginally in Sterling's favour.

      Personally looking at this from the angle "Liverpool can put 5 past Watford at home so they can do the same vs. Burnley" rather than "Liverpool put 5 past Watford at home so City can do the same".

      Don't own Salah but going Mané (C) over Sterling this week.

    What to do?

    A. Play Barnes
    B. Play Shaw
    C. Shaw -> Azpi (play Azpi and bench Barnes)

    Thanks

    FYI I had a few days off this week so am a bit behind in our inboxes. If you've sent me or FFS an email I might not get to it today, but will try to have everything responded to by early next week
