Interview with Fantasy Eliteserien expert Jonas Bergh-Johnsen

In our latest video and podcast, Joe chats to TV journalist Jonas Bergh-Johnsen, who has been closely involved with the development of Norway’s top-flight game, Fantasy Eliteserien.

As a football reporter and host for TV channel Discovery Norway and co-host of Fantasy Football podcast, Fantasy FK, he is among a group of experts that Eliteserien Fantasy’s developers have called on for advice.

During his interview with Joe, Jonas explains how he has helped ensure this season’s pricing aims to reflect points potential across all teams and why bargain hunters will have to work even harder this time around.

While Fantasy Eliteserien’s gameplay and interface will be familiar to Fantasy Premier League managers, Jonas discusses the notable differences.

Chief among these is the game’s innovative chips, including the ‘Rich Uncle’ that offers Fantasy managers the chance to deploy a free hit with an unlimited budget.

Another is Fantasy Eliteserien’s use of a ‘man in the stands’ method of choosing bonus. Meanwhile, Norway top-flight calendar means that Double Gameweeks can often arrive early, due to cup commitments and the Scandinavian weather.

His top player picks for the start of the season are also revealed, as is his strategy for dealing with the first Double Gameweek of the season in Round 2.

Jonas also talks about his love of Fantasy Premier League. This season he is currently ranked inside the top 3,000, has two top 500 finishes and a further two in the top 1,500 across his ten-year career.

Whether you are a long time Fantasy Eliteserien player or looking to play for the first time, Jonas offers invaluable advice ahead of this season’s launch on March 30.

Wonder if Sane could be worth a punt?

    Guaita
    Luiz Lindelöf* Schlupp
    Sterling Hazard Sane* Pogba
    Kane Kun Jimmy

    * Is currently Laporte + Son

Yes, not many stand out options at that price.
I would say either lose Gundogan, and get Ederson, and another defender (4-3-3).
Or downgrade one of Kepa/Luiz to Guiata/AWB/Schlupp, and upgrade Gundogan to one of the Silvas.

Depends.. If KdB and Fernandinho is out I think Gündogan is a decent pick at that price.

                  Appreciate it mate!

Gündogan and Dunk the obvious weak spots in my team, but not sure how to upgrade without weakening the team as a whole..

I mean honestly I'd rather have Laporte in defence, than Gundogan in midfield, which I'm guessing you could do fairly easily, with a 4-3-3.

yeah - it's a possibility but the Fulham game is on the Tuesday and is a good opportunity to get some confidence before the cup game which isn't until the Sunday. Think we might be overthinking the rotation threat especially after an international break.

Wasn’t Laporte the top scorer in the last DGW? I think at least 1 City def is 100% essential in a FH and a much better option than either of the silvas.

Defence rely on CS points, attacker rely on only one assist to equal CS point and looking their fixtures at least one assist is most probable I think

          good point...D.Silva over Laporte then.

But looking at the fixtures you could say 2 CS also looks likely & Bernardo has 0G 1A in 10 GWs. Dilva could be a decent option tbf but I prefer a defender

      6. Runaway
        • 12 Years
        5 years, 2 months ago

Two weak opponents with 4 days in between look ideal for Dilva after a 15 days of rest tbh. City is likely to score 9-10 in those two games. If Laporte can not score/assist one (he already did in last DGW) he can get 12 at most. Dilva can get that in one game only. I admit it is still higher risk than Laporte but much higher reward as well.

      Sterling - Hazard - Pogba - Mili - (Camarasa).

      Kun - Kane - (Quaner).

        A.
But downgrade AWB (who I assume will also be benched?) Bednarek, and Camarasa to the cheapest options, you won't need them anyway, and see if you can make any upgrades.

Personally with that money, I'd either turn Lindelof into Smalling, or Ederson/Lindelof into De Gea/Laporte.

This England squad and future is just too bright.

I feel bad for the rest of the world when it’s coming home goes viral for the next 10 years 🙁

Looks good, but I'm sure we'll find a way to screw it up as we always do.

Some great prospects coming through, just hope they get the game time at the big clubs or move elsewhere if not to prevent their development stagnating.

Just need someone to really come through in central midfield who will be comfortable on the ball in high pressure matches in quarter and semi-finals. Looking at you Phil Foden.

      Good to go?

      Foster
      Lindelöf - Kompany - Azpi
      Jorginho - Sterling - Pogba - Hazard
      Lukaku - Jiminez - Aguero

I have .9 in bank. Maybe Kompany -> Laporte.

I would do Kompany to Laporte for sure and get someone other than Jorginho

      Pereira Robbo Luiz
      Mane Barnes Pogba Sterling Hazard
      Jimenez Wilson

      Etheridge Bednarek Barnes Clyne

      Not on FH:

      Ryan
      Robertson Pereira AWB
      Salah Pogba Sterling Mané
      Jimenez Higuain Rashford

      Would you do:
      A) Sterling (TC) and save FT
      B) Salah + Higuain > Hazard + Agüero (TC) (-4)?

Still seeing a lot of 'Watford will rotate, don't buy Deulofeu' but zero suggestion of appropriate replacements in the same position and price bracket.

Babel & Knockaert seem all there is aside Deu; any other suggestions?

Babel looks good in the games I watched. Knockaert is weird because he was doing well early in the season and people started talking him up. Then he was dropped to the bench completely out of the blue. Won't touch any Brighton midfielder.

Would you say Babel a better option than Deulofeu though playing in that Fulham side?

Townsend probably the closest in price.

Trying to take a bit of risk with two Chelsea backs and two potentially high scoring Watford players. Need to make up 40 points with no chips left after this free hit. Madness?

      Ederson
      Alonso - Young - Azpi
      Deulofeu - Mili - Sterling - Hazard
      Kane - Aguero - Deeney

      Hamer - AWB - Duffy - McTominay

Alonso, Young, Deulofeu and Deeney I would say are highly unlikely to play both games.
