Can a price drop boost Harry Kane’s FPL appeal?

Harry Kane (£11.0m) has been handed an eye-catching starting price by the Fantasy Premier League decision-makers.

The Tottenham Hotspur striker is available for £11.0m going into Gameweek 1, the cheapest he has started a season since 2016/17.

Kane’s 2018/19 ended in frustrating fashion for the England centre-forward, with two separate ankle ligament injuries forcing him to miss ten of Spurs’ final 16 Premier League fixtures.

A total of 160 points represented his lowest FPL score in five seasons as a first-team regular in north London, although 23 attacking returns was more than any of his teammates managed and his points-per-match average of 5.71 was the second-best among FPL forwards in 2018/19.

With Kane’s starting price dropping by £1.5m on what it was 12 months ago, does he again become one of the more attractive premium options in the game?

The Members’ article below delves into the data to analyse Kane’s season and ponder his worth.

Which are the best (less bad) defender options at 4.5?

      A. Smith and Elmo for attacking point potential. Lascelles can get goals. C. Taylor and Diop best of rest

Fredericks has decent attacking potential and has pretty nice fixtures for the first dozen weeks

    Ryan / 4.0
    TAA / VVD / Coleman / Elmohamady / 4.0
    Salah / Siggy / Zaha / Maddie / Pérez
    Agüero / King / 4.5

Pros: Well balanced (?), City attack coverage
    Cons: Ryan, Pérez

    What do you think?

Aguero doesn't cover Sterling and vice versa.
Decent team at this stage of preseason.

        Many thanks indeed, mate.

While we're at it, one more thing if I may be so bold: would you rather have Fraser or TAA? Have King and VVD already.

If Fraser is going to do well, it's early on. He is terrible vs the top 6.
In a dead team, I'd rather TAA.

Jorginho stinking this up too much?

    Ryan | (Button)
    Robertson | VVD | Laporte | Digne | (Kelly)
    Salah | KDB | Siggy | Jorginho | (Dendocker)
    Kane | King | (Wickham)

Jorginho is stinking it up but I’m not sure who I’d drop. Maybe Jorginho>4.5, KDB>Bernardo, and Wickham>Jota/Deulofeu

        I'd do Laporte-Mendy, Digne-Coleman, and either
        a. upgrade Jorginho, or
        b. downgrade him too to a 4.5 and upgrade Kelly or Wickham

Been stuck on this one since the first day so I’m pretty happy that I haven’t had to tinker with it much.

That being said, there’s always someone here to rip it to shreds, so have at it!

    Ederson (Button)
    TAA Robertson Digne Coleman Ake
    Salah Sterling Sigurdsson Zaha (Dendoncker)
    King (4.5, 4.5)

    IMO Pros:
    TAA+Robertson+Digne+Salah+Sterling
    Nailed MCI defense
    Everyone is nailed
    Sigurdsson

    IMO Cons:
    Crap bench
    Reliant on King
Heavily invested in 4 teams: EVE, LIV, MCI, BOU

At a stretch, maybe Robbo>VVD, Ake>Smith, Coleman>Laporte. Not sure if the first two downgrades warrant the upgrade though. I’d get Smith over Ake if I knew he’d start though.

Honestly no point in Hojberg. Save the 0.5m imo, because he's unlikely to do much more than Dendoncker for example and should stay firmly on your bench anyway

    Heaton
    Robertson, TAA, Laporte, Digne
    Salah, KDB, Sigs
    Vardy, King, DCL

    Button, Dendocker, Stephens, Kelly

Been stuck on this for a few days. Would like to fit Sterling but haven't found a combination that works for me.

I think the only route would be KDB to Sterling and Vardy to 7.0.

Cool, yea El Ghazy is the Aston Villa winger. Might possibly be better 5.5m mids around but his fixtures are very nice for the first ten weeks ngl. I’m finding the 5-6m range for mids and fwds very lacking this year (so far)

Anyone seriously considering going KDB over Sterling? Can build a much more balanced team overall with KDB, but not owning Sterling could be scary...

    Ryan 4.0
    Robertson TAA Digne Mendy/Laporte 4.0
    Salah Sterling Sigurdsson Zaha Dendoncker
    King Deulofeu 4.5

Is the VERY (obviously) rough current draft with Sterling, but I can go Vardy KDB over Sterling Deulofeu, for example...

    1. bigbudgie
      • 6 Years
      1 year, 3 months ago

KDB could turn into the bargain of the season, might be prudent to have him from the beginning. I'd say him over Sterling if it somehow allows a premium striker like Aguero or Kane, but then that probably still leaves the budget squeezed.

Would you still say worth it if said premium striker was vardy?

Otherwise, to afford Kane/ Auba I’d need to also do something like zaha digne to 6.5 lascelles... and obviously a further 1.0 needed if aguero

I think your first draft but with KdB and Vardy is the strongest.
If Mendy doesn't start, you save yourself 0.5m and get Zinchenko.
If possible I'd upgrade the keeper but not at the expense of losing a premium defender for Lascelles.

Had another tinker and actually kind of like the team if I do:
        Digne to Lascelles
        Sterling to KDB
        Deulofeu to Vardy
Ryan to Pickford, leaving 0.5 ITB

If Mendy doesn’t appear to be first choice I could either upgrade to Laporte, or get digne

Looking at it I'm not sure tbh. Tough one. I think the crowd will go with Sterling over KDB, if he fires at the start of the season it could be catch up from the start. I haven't played with my team yet so just going off the top of my head at the moment.

IMO you should have only one of salah and sterling.

Both are great captaincy options almost every week so you’ll rarely need to captain someone else. And even if they fire from the off you won’t likely be too behind as your other players should have outscored their other players and you could easily switch between salah and sterling if you picked the wrong one

    2. Prawnsandwich
      • 2 Years
      1 year, 3 months ago

      Thinking of this as well...

If captaining Salah for the first 3/4 games, then KDB mightn't be too far off Sterling, 200 points season, Sterling getting around 220 -230...

Cold then wild card Sterling in, if needed, or use transfers...

    3. MillsAU

      As before my starting point:

      Heaton
      Robertson, TAA, Laporte, Digne
      Salah, KDB, Sigs
      Vardy, King, DCL

      Button, Dendocker, Stephens, Kelly

I'm tinkering with Salah to Sterling which lets me buy Van Dijk in D too instead of, say, Digne.

The way I see it KDB is worth a punt since Son is an Easy swap from gw 3. We d all want son in anyway and Salah, Sterling, son may be a bit too much to manage

Just heard that Kieran Tierney is on the verge of joining Arsenal, with the deal being 20m with an addidtional 5m with add-ons.

My club is selling our backup left back for 17m , and somehow one of Europe's best young prospects is worth less than 10m more than that? How is Tierney not at least 35m? An absolute shocker from Celtic.

Still, couldnt they have squeezed more than that out of Arsenal? I'm sure Arsenal couldve payed up at least 30m if Celtic really pushed it. 20m is poor, even when you add the add-ons.
Understand the Scottish footbal generate much less revenue, but just feel like Celtic missed out on a much bigger payday.

    Ryan (Button)
    TAA VVD Coleman Dunk (Diop)

Read the news that Rabiot is also joining Juventus. How many midfielders does Juventus need?

They now have Matuidi, Khedira, Pjanic, Can, Rabiot, Ramsey, Bentancur and Dybala(maybe only he can play on the wing) competing for a maximum of 3 spots. That's a lot of good players on the bench.

I like what I saw of Bentancur and really hope United signs him over the likes of McGinn and Longstaff for 50m

    1. Bad Kompany
      • 2 Years

McGinn and longstaff are worth nothing close to 50m. Bentancur seems like real quality and would be a good signing for them imo

Yes but in the current market, and especially when selling to United players are going to go over 2,3 times their actual price. Beats me why but it is what it is, which s why I want them to sign Bentancur instead.

Unfortunately, haven't even heard a rumor or heard him being linked to any club so don't think Juve is selling

Vardy is a good option to go with a 10m+ premium you would captain. So I think Sterling (c) and Vardy, or Aguero + Vardy are good combos. That's assuming you don't have Salah, whom you can perma-cap.

      Good team overall.

Moura is an interesting choice and could work out. However, for 7.5 I’d be looking for someone less rotation prone. If you want 5 in midfield I’d personally go for Brooks and use the 1.0 to upgrade your bench.

The only other thing I’d say is that in week 1 Salah and Mane will be most captained. Without a Liverpool attacker you might want to hide behind the couch.

Moura will likely be moved out after first few games. Love his chances to haul while Son is out.

    Thoughts?

Yup, thats my dilemma atm, start with Kane or go 541? The City fix is putting me off him a little, but Kane could be a great captaincy punt in GW1.

Yeah I might go Zaha instead.

Hopefully there’ll be a few good cheap mid and def options come through at the start of the season. Focused on structure right now. The 541, 451 or 442 conundrum is real!

Italian news outlet tuttosport are reporting that Italian giants Juventus are interested in signing talented English player Dwight McNeil, after impressing in the recent Toulon Tournament. Other news outlets are repaeting this story as well.

Imagine, Ronaldo in one wing and McNeil in the other. Dream team right there. Italy ain't ready.

I'm waiting to see how FPL price Josh Sims. Young, quick, good eye for a throughball and cross. Ralph seems to be impressed by him, could give him a bigger role this season. Surprised he hasn't been put into the game yet. He wasn't on loan at the end of last season or anything.

Yeah really interested in Southampton overall - fascinated to see them now with a pre season under Ralphie

Even though he’s far from being a young player, Stuart Armstrong also briefly caught my eye at 5.5, his points per 90 were pretty good... I just don’t know if he’ll get games...

Similar to Josh Sims I wonder if the Djenepo & Adams signings will limit games all round? They’ve a lot more bodies there now to fit in

Ings & JWP look the pick of the 6.0’s for me & I think they can both be useful

Liverpool have fully nailed on defenders, City dont really, hence Ederson over Alisson at the same price. Liv defenders are so attacking too and offer so much more value!

Not sure about Zinchenko. Has rotation written all over him. I like the Coleman pick but think Digne offers a bit more attacking threat. Calvert-Lewin down to fodder and upgrade a defender imo.

I really feel like my team all depends on a few player transfers in the market:

    •Eriksen (decides my Kane decision)
•Tom Heaton (May get Burnley GK)
•Zaha (100% in my team if he goes to Arsenal)

    Have I missed any others?

Yeah at least King should still have pens... but I wonder would Fraser take a big chunk of Bournemouth’s goals with him if he left, leaving all their forwards a few FPL points worse off vs. last season

Equally, it could perhaps give Solanke a breakthrough chance though, which would be interesting
