Everton’s defensive potential in 2019/20 could depend on some external factors.

The Toffees have already been targetted by Fantasy Premier League managers a team to invest in for Gameweek 1.

That’s because they top the Season Ticker for the first six matches of the new campaign.

At the time of writing, Lucas Digne (£6.0m) is sat in 28% of teams, signifying the interest in Everton’s defence for the start of the season.

He was a key part of helping his side keep eight clean sheets in the last 11 matches of 2018/19.

But Digne was not the only important member of the back-four that produced such an impressive achievement.

Alongside the Frenchman was Chelsea centre-back Kurt Zouma, who spent the 2018/19 campaign on loan at Goodison Park.

As things stand, the Frenchman is back at his parent club and was involved in Chelsea’s first pre-season friendly.

With Zouma’s future currently up in the air, there may be some who are cooling their interest in Everton defensive assets.

So the aim of this article is to assess his contribution to the Toffees defence last season so we know whether or not a potential absence from the team at the start of 2019/20 would reduce the clean sheet potential of Digne, Jordan Pickford (£5.5m), Seamus Coleman (£5.5m) and the like.

Possibly unlikely to start the season with speculation of a move. Until more is known I can't see him establishing himself as a credible option in the community.

    Lastest draft.. How about this

    Ryan
    TAA Robbo Digne Zinc
    Salah Sterling Siggy Fraser
    King Murray

    Button, Wickham, Dedoncker, Kelly

    0.5 ITB...

Downgrade Murray to another 4.5 striker, use the 1.5 and the 0.5 in your bank to upgrade Kelly to someone like Luiz or Azpilicueta, either will get you more points than Murray like last season. £6m on a defender will get you more points than a £6m striker I think

Then you're left with one striker and down to 10men with a surprise benching or late injury.

King and Murray rotate nice but any inuries or rested players, and you got probs.
First I'd spend that.5 on a rotating keeper w/Ryan. Gotta downgrade Steling or Salah( rest risk).

I don't see it that way. With Coutinho, Klopp did a fantastic job seamlessly losing him by changing formation. Now he's got Mane/Firmino/Salah firing, where does Coutinho fit in? For Mane? Deeper in midfield - that not his best position. No, it would screw up the team, like Neymar going back to Barcelona.

City have a front three Sane/Sergio/Sterling & coped with slotting DSilva begins quite nicely, no reason Pool wouldn’t achieve something similar. I think he would be a fantastic addition to their squad, Fabinho/Henderson sitting deep infront of the back four & Coutinho pushing forward could really punish teams. The minutes Salah & Mané racked up last season points to them needing some more options too, especially as both have had busy Summers with Afcon

The way you've set up there, I can see Coutinho and Firmino running into each other. It would require a radical altering of tactics that work brilliantly and little time to do it in.

I ended up in the 10000 last season. I used 2 heavy hitters. This season I plan for a 5 back line. TAA, Robo, Vvd, Digne and Maguire...only 1 big hitter and rest mid hitters...am I losing the plot or trying to win?

I reckon he's PSG bound as Everton had three already in Gomes, Gueye and Schneiderlin, so I'd deem Delph a luxury if Gueye was to stay. And I reckon Everton would spend their money elsewhere if they didn't need a midfielder.

Agree with this, can see the PSG money being redeployed on a striker. They can’t be splashing cash around like they have been & start the season with DCL & Tosun, would be criminal.

Do you think if you keep saying Bilva isn't a real FPL option it will eventually become fact? He's scored consistent points and plays for the best team in the league. He also outscored Perez who you recommend changing him to. Season before last he scored 112 points from c.1500 minutes.

This. Not only that, Pep loves him, he gets at least as many minutes as other premium City options, he plays offensively, he's low priced (considering the factors outlined) and he's got older players in his position (he'll likely play more minutes). He's in my side.

I think his idea is at the start of the year it is better to have a nailed on talisman than a rotation risk. If and when Bilva is about to/starts to become a clear good value for money option (due to clear form, or injuries and bans to other players) get on him then.

In a six game period I would think the thinking is Perez is more likely to go 325335 and Bilva go 101786.

The “trick” is to get it right

He recommended switching him to Perez, so I don't think his point was based around being a "nailed on talisman". No one even knows if or where he'll start yet.

If Dunk ends up at Leicester then that’s a no brainer for me, Ake has great ability to score attacking returns but you want some clean sheets at that 5mil price bracket & I just don’t see Bournemouth keeping that many this season, they are in need of a proper defensive mid to balance things out slightly IMO

Zinchenkos in my team currently & cant see a better way into the City defence unless you want to spend the extra 0.5m & bring in Ederson

Not the DGW everyone capped Duffy.

This was the one after that.

Oh well, I can only recall him and Dunk scoring 8 pts each in my BB in some sort of DGW.

Surprised with the amount of Ryan picks. Brighton must be relegation favourites this season

    So ... Fabian Delph.

A 5.5 OOP Everton defender -> midfielder. Seems decent.

    Will he be nailed on?

Could well be but think he is a waste of an Everton spot. Coleman should get more points at the same price.

I think he's squad filler. Also gets injured a lot

By squad filler, you think he won't start regularly?

Surely his move to Everton was motivated by the potential for more starts?

If he's intended as first XI I hope for Everton's sake they have decent backup

Is he really as bad as you say?

He was decent at Villa as far as I can remember and is a full England international.

Go to transfermarkt and look at stats last 4 seasons and check out amount of times injured. That's just at City

Given last season is it reasonable to expect Origi to start for a while?
5.5 is a sweet $ if that's how it goes down.

Seen quite a few post here that they are planning on punting him for the first few gameweeks then assessing with an early W/C. Could be a good shout with Firmino having a busy summer schedule & the end of season run/champs league heroics... not quite convincing me yet though

Is there any article analysind in depth the potential of Zinchenko as a defender in terms of FPL?

    Thanks

      Digne to Coleman
      Deulo to ?

Also pre-season could throw up some nice surprises.
      KDB could come in too.

It’s so annoying. I’m not sure there will be a nailed Chelsea striker anyhow, will completely depend on the system which lampard loves to change. 1 up front = Giroud. Two up front = Abe + Bats

I might just settle for Luiz or Azpi. Nice starting fixtures.

Not the worst idea. Zappa could emerge as an even better option of Azpi gets put at CB for only 4.5. Again this would probably be a pure system thing. Wouldn’t mind seeing Luiz shifted back up into midfield again

The fact you know he shouldn’t be means that it won’t effect you, think of those poor auto-select fools that picked a team last week to leave it for the season....

    Pope
VVD - Digne - Zinchenko (Balbuena - Kelly)
Salah - KdB - Siggy - Perez (Hayden)
    Kane - King - Deulofeu

Keeping an eye on Giroud/CHE Forward cos there’s decent potential there for the price.
