The most popular players in Sky Sports Fantasy Football so far

With just over a week to go until the start of the new Premier League season managers of the Sky Sports Fantasy Football game are finalising their teams.

We take a look at the most popular options in each position ahead of Week 1 in a 3-4-3 formation.

Alisson (Liverpool): £8m

Selection percentage: 32.9%

Alisson won the Golden Glove last season

Having secured more clean sheets than any other goalkeeper last season (21), it is no surprise Alisson is the most popular goalkeeper on Sky Sports Fantasy Football so far.

Many would expect a similar campaign for the Brazilian in 2019/20, especially with Liverpool’s favourable early fixtures.

However, there is a slight concern over whether or not he’ll feature against Norwich on the opening weekend.

Alisson was involved in Brazil’s Copa America triumph this summer and came back late to pre-season training.

Thankfully, the Community Shield final will be a good test of whether he’s ready to start the season on time.

Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool): £10.5m

Selection percentage: 45.6%

Van Dijk was the top-scoring player in all positions last season

Win the most points in Sky Sports Fantasy Football 2018/19 (299) and you will become the most selected for the new season.

There is no need to reiterate the importance of Virgil van Dijk given his ability to pull in points from multiple avenues, be that clean sheets, tackles or passing bonus.

With the Reds likely to have another good year in 2019/20, there is nothing to suggest that van Dijk will regress as an asset.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool): £9.9m

Selection percentage: 27.3%

Alexander-Arnold (right) pipped his colleague Robertson (left) to the defender’s assist record last season

Trent Alexander-Arnold had a whirlwind finish to the season in 2018/19, pipping team-mate Andrew Robertson to breaking the record for most assists from a defender in a single Premier League campaign.

The right-back can be deadly from free-kicks and set-pieces while rampaging down the wing to deliver for Liverpool’s formidable front three, so he could prove to be a bargain at £9.9m.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka (Manchester United): £8.6m

Selection percentage: 24.8%

Wan-Bissaka in action for Manchester United during pre-season

The new Manchester United signing has evidently caught the eye of Fantasy Football managers, rising out of nowhere to register 158 points last year and sealing a subsequent £50m move to Old Trafford.

It certainly gives Wan-Bissaka impetus to get forward as much as he did for Crystal Palace, although a question remains if Manchester United will keep as many clean sheets under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s new direction.

No defender won more tackles than Wan-Bissaka last season so even if defensive returns don’t emerge for the Red Devils, their new right-back should still do well for bonus points.

James Maddison (Leicester): £8.3m

Selection percentage: 28%

Maddison is the most popular midfield option ahead of the new campaign

James Maddison notched seven goals and seven assists in his debut Premier League season with Leicester.

A specialist from free-kicks, dead-ball situations and a relatively kind price still have made sure that the Englishman is the highest selected midfielder.

Ryan Fraser (Bournemouth): £8.7m

Selection percentage: 19.8% per cent

Fraser could provide value once again in Sky Sports Fantasy Football

Scoring seven goals last season, Ryan Fraser’s primary appeal was his 14 assists.

That was a total that was beaten only Real Madrid’s marquee signing Eden Hazard.

The Scottish international wowed with his superb delivery and created more big chances than any other midfielder last season.

Despite that, he still comes in at a relatively low price of just £8.7m this time around, perhaps proving he can be a bargain once again.

If his points-per-million from last term (21.57) were to be replicated once more, Fantasy Football managers would be very happy indeed.

Diogo Jota (Wolves): £8.3m

Selection percentage: 18.2%

Jota remains classified as a midfielder in Sky Sports Fantasy Football for 2019/20

Diogo Jota found the net nine times during the 2018/19 season and formed a threatening partnership with Raul Jimenez.

Off the back of a brace against Newcastle in the Premier League Asia Trophy, he has already leapfrogged Bernardo Silva in selection percentage and looks set for another impressive campaign.

Despite shifting to a forward on FPL, and playing up-front for Wolves, he remains a midfielder in Sky Sports Fantasy Football, enabling him to continue as an out-of-position asset in this game.

Bernardo Silva (Manchester City): £10.9m

Selection percentage: 16.0% per cent

Bernardo Silva (left) was an important player for Manchester City last season

Bernardo Silva was arguably Manchester City’s most prominent midfielder throughout their title-winning campaign.

He might be in the same price category as Paul Pogba and Kevin De Bruyne, but he can certainly walk the walk, as demonstrated through his 159 Fantasy Football points last season.

Mohamed Salah (Liverpool): £12.2m

Selection percentage: 34.7%

Salah should prove an even more important asset in 2019/20 following tweaks to the bonus points

Mohamed Salah supposedly ‘under-performed’ last season, despite winning a second successive Premier League Golden Boot, although he shared it with team-mate Sadio Mane and Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on this occasion.

Despite the critics, the attraction is still there and 36 per cent of Sky Sports Fantasy Football managers are praying for Salah to come up with the goods yet again.

Raheem Sterling (Manchester City): £11.6m

Selection percentage: 28.6%

Sterling has moved into the forwards category for the 2019/20 season

The FWA Footballer of the Year award for 2019. The PFA Young Player of the Year award for 2019. A season-best 17 goals and 12 assists, 29 goal contributions.

Many of these are reasons why Raheem Sterling is set to build on his best-ever year, with just under a third of Sky Sports Fantasy Football players urging him in his quest.

Sterling scored twice against West Ham in the Premier League Asia Trophy and has been playing up-front in the absence of his attacking colleagues this summer.

Sadio Mane (Liverpool): £11.5m

Selection percentage: 22.0%

Mané may not be in the starting line-up for Gameweek 1 but he is still a popular pick in Sky Sports Fantasy Football

Speaking of season-bests, it would be rude not to mention Sadio Mane.

Picking up the Golden Boot was a testament to how potent he has become in front of goal, so much so that he has undergone the transition from a midfielder to a striker in this game.

This move has not put off Sky Sports Fantasy managers, who have opted for his services ahead of Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero.

The question would be whether Mane can sustain his level this coming year and reach those heights once again.

        Fabianski
        VVD // AWB // Digne // Zinchenko
        Sterling // Pepe // Perez // Barkley
        Kane // Firmino

        Bench of usual suspects.

I decided to make the most low-risk team I could think of

    Heaton

    Salah - Sterling - Perez - Fraser
    Jota - Deulofeu

    (4.0 - Dendoncker - Dunk - Wickham)

No such thing as a no-risk team but there is such things as a low risk team. Notice how I have no Barkleys or Bilvas in my team. With every player you know what to expect and ones like Jota can easily be shipping for the likes of King or Wood

What's low risk about it? Starters? Jota could be rested with EL.

I love this team. My only worry is Jota + Europa League but as someone else has pointed out, it might actually mean that Wolves are sharper for having played competitive games, at least at the start of the season.

Burnley didn’t put out anything like a full team in EL. Could go either way imo.

Wolves are simply a stronger side than any recent EL team. They’re also the first to take it seriously. New territory

They definitely have more depth than Burnley did last year, however, it will still be a challenge to not tire out...especially with injuries

They put a full first team Starting XI out to beat Irish part-timers they were already 2-0 up against last night. They'll put a full-strength side out next Thursday just ahead of their opening PL game. Good news if you have Leicester assets if you ask me - I suspect they'll be fatigued. Even Burnley diluted their EL squads with reserves last year and they still suffered. I'm reluctant to have any Wolves in my starting squad, Including Jota who's been in my squad since day one

Bottomed in the last article, can I get some thoughts on this team?

    Heaton
    TAA - Coleman - KWP
    Salah - Sterling - KDB - Perez - Barkley
    Wilson - Wesley

    Button - Dunk - Lundstrom - Greenwood

Could turn KWP into 5.5m but don't want to risk a completely non-playing bench. KDB could be Pepe depending on whether he starts vs Barcelona and I'm feeling punty.

Not want to drop a mid to a lower price and try to get a premium striker?

Can't see Wilson giving 1.5m extra value over King either given injuries there.

Nice to have Salah / Sterling / KDB in though...

Thanks. I'm a little worried about Bournemouth too, went from Fraser+Wilson and now questioning them at all with the injuries.

It's either KDB or Auba for me. Are there any other premium stickers worth thinking about aside from Kane?

    Taa Digne VVD Alderwiereld Targett

Midfield could do with beefing up a little I guess, but looks good elsewhere.

Guess it depends who you're planning on benching each week to save some £ currently.

Ceballos isn't nailed on so he'd be the one I'd swap probably, although do you need 2X spurs attacking cover with 0 City?

A bit Risky! Yeah, that's an understatement. You're starting a 9.5M player who will have only been training with the team for a week. But I really hope he does well for you-two assists (one to Auba and one to Laca)

  14. Tsparkes10

    Thoughts?

    Hendo
    Robo TAA Cathcart
    Bilva KDB Salah Robinson Perez
    Jota Lacazette
    (4.0, Wesley, JOC, Diop)

May go Mcburnie and Guilbert instead of Wesley and JOC.

Pros- strong bench, 4.5m defenders rotate nicely... Wesley can rotate with Robinson or Perez. KDB can easy become Son... Laca easy become a 6.5 and then Bilva/KDB to Sterling etc. Maybe bring in Fraser or Moura instead of Silva.

Cons- No Sterling and minimal captain choice

Villa's fixtures for the first few months look unbelievably kind to a promoted club. So based on that he may be worth a punt. If it doesn't work then jump on another 6.0 striker who looks good.

Very strange Fraser is starting with the second team. Bournemouth fans forum think he is joining Liverpool, with Harry Wilson joining them.

Is it that weird? Ibe - Lerma - Surman - Fraser sounds like the starting midfield with Brooks, Gosling and Cook out injured. Of course an injury prone Stanislas or the two new signings could start, but it seems to me that the starting midfield get this game while the starting defence and attack get the other.

Why would Klopp want Fraser coming in, at the expense of Wilson? Im intrigued, is it purely because Fraser has Premier League experience? I’m not convinced on the move, Wilson has bags of potential.

Probably. Fraser is better anyway. And can play LW, where we don't have cover. Wilson is whack imo..just has a decent shot.

It's rumours on Bournemouth forum at this point.

    Best upgrade with 1.5 ITB?

    Ryan
    TAA VVD Laporte Digne
    Salah Sterling Zaha Perez
    King Jota

Obvious one is King > Wilson but I kinda want to keep ITB until we know more.

Projections really help in the first part of season for captaincy and transfers as you dont have much going

Are Fredericks and Masuaku the most likely full back starters for West Ham?

As is he nailed in 90% of teams on here. He’s a great option, but people can get ahead of themselves, he has a tendency to go off the boil, he’s a streaky player

out of 90% most of mediocre playere will remove as soon as he blanks. I will remove only if stats fall of else he is staying for 7-8gws atleast

Why did Manutd have to pay 80mn for Maguire which is 5mn more than Van Dijk and worse he isnt even that good? Plus there wasnt even a buy out clause of 80mn plus, like Lei even Soton had long term contract with Van Dijk

It’s Manchester United. +£30M premium on top if they want your man. Its a price they pay for being Manchester United.

Well Liverpool are more successful plus among top 5-6 richest in world along with Manutd. Dont get that point. Is it Van dijk took a paycut but cant see any news on that

He became the most expensive defender in the world at the time. It was a massive deal

its so bad planning by Manutd. They needed CB last year as well and that time Maguire hadnt signed new deal which gave Lei upper hand. With mounting debt manutd will go under before it even flies again. Amd woodward will just take a job in private sector,he hardly cares

its been like this since moyes came in
he wanted fellaini and fellaini had a release clause and united decided to lowball and then waited till it expired and thought they could get him cheaper and ended up paying like 5 million more than the release clause in the end. scatter gun and no negotiation skills

Inflation of the market. Prices are rising each transfer window plus there is a premium for English players

I am sure people were saying the same thing about Liverpool paying for vvd too.

You need a certain number of English players in your squad in the Premier league

the premium on english players is because of the home grown quota not because of international success or lack there of

its any player of any nationality that has been at a English or Welsh club for 3 years before the age of 21
so players like fabregas etc used to come under this quota

Daniel james as well. So doesnt make sense as Manutd always been obsessed with home grown talent. Rash Mctominay Shaw lingard and now Greenwood, Chong amd what not
Just feels they dint need to be panicky about quota. It just loomks bad job woodword in negotiation and planning
