Scoutcast Episode 309 – When FPL patience turns to stubbornness

When does patience stop being a virtue and become downright stubbornness?

This is among the issues tackled by Joe, Az and Lee on this week’s Scoutcast as they look at their own stubborn streaks and wonder whether impatience may actually be the wisest strategy this season.

Those who have been slow to catch on to Jamie Vardy’s sensational captaincy potential, and clinging to the hope that Raheem Sterling will eventually score in the league, will know about the cost of patience only too well.

There’s also plenty of input too from the community on this issue as they reveal how they may have been, perhaps, too set in their ways this campaign.

Meanwhile, Gabriel Jesus’ credentials as a differential saviour is also on the bill, as are Spurs assets, who are already shaking up the template under Jose Mourinho. But which of the North Londoners’ wealth of attacking talent is the best to acquire?

Our trio also look back at their Gameweek 13 scores and detail their plans for the upcoming Gameweek 14 matches this weekend.

In this packed show, they also manage to squeeze in the regular features including clean sheets and Rough with the Smooth.

Finally, Az marks his return to the Scoutcast line-up to maintain his strong track record of picking differentials by taking his turn to select the next month’s best low-owned gem.

Will our trio continue to be stubborn this season, or will the patient approach prevail?

If someone told me at start of season that before start of gw14 id be without atleast one of Kane Salah Sterling or Aguero in my team id laughed them off

I think most veterans are struggling this season as they are too stubborn in holding or captaining inconsistent big hitters or fpl royalties of past seasons.

While those who jumped early on chelsea, leicester assets and early adopters of likes of Jimenez Pukki are reaping rewards.

I think what made it tough is the sensible captain pick in early weeks didnt pay off. I like many have got wrong captain picks a lot and have benched wrong defender a lot. In 228k so still OK

Ym im in the same boat with captains. Only 5 successes from 13gws. Around half of the failiures has been by Sterling

This is myself. I'm no pro, but I finished 51K OR last year and top 15K OR the year before and I'm currently sitting at 1.9M this season all because I refused to see off Salah/Sterling early enough (or grabbed the wrong one at the wrong time) and I didn't ditch my double Liverpool defence fast enough or jump back on them quick enough. I'm now 0.2M off of the team I want which is frustrating. I've never played my WC so early in my life either (GW3).

It's kind of like right now I'm tempted to lose KDB (my last City asset) purely because yes when he his big (10+ scores) you feel like you miss out but when he blanks or doesn't start (

Pukki casuals the luckiest bunch this season. He was never going to keep it up, just massive jam that early bandwagoners got anything at all. Undeserved

I disagree, after the pool game I moved king to pukki for the reason of eye test, and reaped the rewards, but moved him on as soon as he dropped and Jimi picked up from GW8

This Pukki was great option scoring against likes of liverpool chelsea and city.

Norwich injuries has completely demoralized their confidence

Happens every season really. We get attached to last season's greats. How many people have gotten Ryan Fraser or Wilson?

And then there are the players that were great last season, got a big price hike and we overlook them to our detriment. Sterling last year for instance. Went up to 11.5m everyone was saying how overpriced he is. We all ended up getting him at some point. This season, it's Mane.

      o/

Started the season with Fraser and Siggy, and took many price drops for both

And still holding onto Salah and ignoring Mane.

My ML leaders have no liv defence, but im sure the table will turn someday

Agree although I have held on to Salah, sterling has gone and also now have no Man City.. I will be C Salah this week, which also feels very differential.. I don’t know what it is but I VC am just too stubborn to move him on, I also think mane is overpriced, not sure he will sustain it..

Not sure what to do. Stats saying Mount to Pulisic but for value in Mount and think Pulisic will be rotated over Christmas.

Other option is 4m to Henderson (dont want rid of Pope for Palace at home) butbthat restricts potential Martial to Son move next week

    Any ideas?

    Pope,
    TAA, Tomori, Soyunchu
    Mount, KDB, Martial, Mane, Maddison
    Abraham, Vardy

    4m, Lundstram, Rico, Connolly

    2.9m itb
    2FT's

Yeah I think Mount will get points but Pulisic has much better form (at least stats wise). No other major concerns in your team so I would do Mount -> Pulisic

The team is doing great in last few GW but Auba and Ars keep disappointing. What to do?

    Pope Button
    TAA Lund Soyuncu Rico Guilbert
    Salah KdB Son Maddison Dendo
    Auba Tammy Mousset

    2ft, 0.1itb

    A) Auba to Vardy
    B) Auba + Mousse to Vardy + Ings
    C) Auba + Madds to Vardy + Pulisic
    D) Auba + Mousse + Madds to Vardy + Pulisic + Ings for -4
    E) keep Auba and do something else

I find it strange that you don't take the same viewpoint when it comes to Salah... Has he not been disappointing also? Depending extent of Mousset injury I would maybe look at Liverpool defence double up (TAA/Robbo) or upgrading Dendoncker and having a powerhouse midfield.

      1. iL PiStOlErO

Actually I tought about that, but since Mane and Mo are at same price I don't want to chase points. Double pool defence is an option. Dendo can go for Martial but then no Party.

Money a touch tight I see. It's frustrating. I'm struggling as well. Maybe just Auba > Vardy then. Maybe a double/triple transfer next week (if you are happy to take a -4)

Then it's a slamdunk no to wildcarding.

That team looks close to a Wildcard one. And I don't think you should WC away from template either. It's better to take risks and then WC back to safer options than it is to do the opposite because if they don't work out, you're up sh^t creek without a paddle.

0.1 short to do Connolly -> Mousset. Rico has the best stats for def under 4.3. But thanks, wondering if I get Jimenez by moving 3-4-3 and ditching Martial

It looks good. Maybe Connolly > Greenwood for the funds not to waste the FT. I also prefer Pulisic over Maddison but that's preference really.

    Pope 4.0
    Robertson, Soy, Lund, Janmaat, Rico
    Salah, Sterling, KDB, Perez, Dend
    Vardy, Abraham, Greenwood
    2.7 itb; 1ft

    A) Perez > Pulisic (and maybe Janmaat upgrade for -4 (PVA?))
    B) Dendo > Moura (3-5-2 meaning I won't have to play one of Janmaat/Rico)

Perez and Moura both have that explosive potential but is it too differential with the likes of Maddison, Son being popular?

Probably not long...unfortunately I fancy him to score against us this week! His fixtures aren't too bad, so I'm hoping NOR find a bit of form and I can hang on. Otherwise it's a fairly easy upgrade to Jimenez or downgrade to Ings soon.

    New gameweek, new community champion!

A strange week for the Scouts, with some calculated risks backfiring but two heroic performances from Vardy and Mane (c) saves their blushes. The Community Champion wasn't able to fully capitalise though, emerging with "just" a 12 point win, which wasn't enough to take the lead with Kane captain failing to match either of Mane or Vardy.

Think you have the eye to pick the differentials and form a winning team vs the Scout Picks? We need a Community Champion to represent us vs the Scout Picks for Gameweek 14.

The Community Champion picks a team including a captain to go up against the Scout Picks, within a budget of 83m and in a playable FPL formation. Whichever Gameweek champion beats the Scout’s team by the largest margin will win a £100 Amazon Voucher!

If you're interested in applying, email Geoff (geoff@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk) with your FFS username and FPL Team ID.

The Champion will be picked Thursday midday, so make sure to enter by then! The Champion then has until 11am Friday morning to send in their team.

    Good luck!

There's no rule that says you have to use it. Don't forget you are re-entering the market at inflated prices. Some players have gone up a lot eg Lundstram 4.0 to 5.0. Money wont go as far. I may not end up using my 2019 WC

just pick 1 gk and 4.0. if you think aurier is a good option get gazzaniga of hendo instead and a sheff u defender instead of aurier, better value

    Hi all

Unsure what moves to make this week
    any thoughts ?

    Team is

    Pope Button
    Taa Soy Lund Rico Dunk
    Mane Kdb Maddison Martial Son
    Vardy Tammy connolly

    2ft 0itb

Was looking at doing kdb and martial to salah and cheap mid in a couple of weeks or maybe martial to pulisic now ?
Want to get tomori but no money itb to do dunk to tomori

Also might be better to get Kane over mo but 16 and 17 look very appealing for Liv attacking double up

Thoughts ? really not clear on what to do

Would be good to get the feeling on this from the afternoon (UK) crowd - posted this morning

Tonight will hopefully be enlightening re minutes played and fitness but all things being good would you do either of these moves?

    A) Mount > Pulisic (FT)
    B) Maddison > Alli (FT)
    C) Save FT

    1FT 1.3itb
    Pope
    TAA, Lunds, Soy
    Salah*, Mané, Maddison, Mount*
    Vardy, Jimi, Abraham
    (McGovern) (Willems, Rico, Dendo)

A is the "in" move this week and I see the appeal but risk of Puli being rotated still.
B is puntier but could be golden as Alli seems to be finding himself again and I still have 2 other LEI
C is playing the patience/ hope game.....

    Thanks 🙂

      Hard to tell

Double liv mid could be golden but there could be a party at spurs this week. I like B more than A but then i got both maddy n alli but no che mid.

I usually save FT when im that torn. GL

        • 6 Years

Yeh unless Salah destroys himself today I can't see myself dropping him this week - will probably Captain!

A just feels like the move the world is doing and B a bit more exciting but obviously riskier as Maddison can deliver the goods when needed.

Maybe the sensible thing is to wait a week to see if Spurs really are the hot picks people are making out...

Having such a tough deciding on what to do with rashford and whether to downgrade him to improve team but its seems odd removing him given his form but having united attackers seems an overkill!

    Pope -- Heaton
Taa Lundy Tomori -- Rico Lascelles
Sterling Kdb Martial Mount -- Cantwell
    Tammy Vardy Rashford

    A: Sterling + Lascelles >> Mane + 4.2m def
    - The second bit of the transfer doesnt seem optimal use of 2FT's when i don't like my midfield and want son and pulisic

    B: Sterling + Martial + Rashford >> Son + Mane + Ings (-4)
    - Very tempting but getting rid of two MU assets before Villa at home?

    C: Sterling + Mount + Rashford >> Mane + Pulisic + Jimmy/ings (-4)
    - currently leaning towards this

With 3 bonus that would be 13 points right? If those are guaranteed points I would consider banking them.

Encouraging comments from Lucas Moura - https://twitter.com/Daily_Hotspur/status/1199688312161746950

I reckon he'll get overlooked because of price as Son and Kane are so enticing but could Moura be the one?

Moura can be inconsistent but could offer good value innspurs mid if nailed.

Son is the man to get though. Very consistent and great captiency option. In fact he has been involved in 50 goals in his last 60 pl starts. Thats kdb level stuff

Got to remember he’s 7m aswell. Don’t expect miracles from him which people seem to think he needs to show.
