Premier League fixture list published as Manchester clubs blank in Gameweek 1

The fixture list for the 2020/21 Premier League season was published this morning and Fantasy Premier League looks set to kick off with a Blank Gameweek 1.

Manchester City and Manchester United will both start the season a week later following their exploits in European club competition.

Their scheduled opponents on the opening weekend, Aston Villa and Burnley, will also begin their campaigns in Gameweek 2.

Chelsea and Wolverhampton Wanderers were in Champions League and Europa League action earlier this month but, although they have been handed a bit of an extra breather, their first fixtures still fall within Gameweek 1 and will take place on Monday 14 September.

Liverpool and Arsenal take on newly-promoted Leeds United and Fulham in two of the most eye-catching fixtures in the first round of 2020/21 matches, with Chelsea away at Brighton and Hove Albion.

Early-season interest in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£12.0m) may well be short-lived, with the Gunners facing Fulham and West Ham United before meeting four of last season’s top five and Sheffield United between Gameweeks 3-7.

Liverpool also have a mixed start, with the visit of Marcelo Bielsa’s side followed by clashes with Chelsea and Arsenal.

Manchester City get their season underway in Gameweek 2 with a trip to Wolves, with visits of Leicester City and Arsenal to follow in Gameweeks 3 and 5.

Their cross-city rivals meanwhile follow up their Blank Gameweek 1 with a more appealing fixture against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford, with matches against Brighton and Hove Albion, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United coming next.

Spurs have a decent start: they have six meetings against sides that finished 10th or below in their opening seven fixtures, with Championship runners-up West Bromwich Albion then up in Gameweek 8.

Wolves’ run of matches from Gameweeks 3-7 also stand out, while Chelsea will be quietly pleased with their initial schedule aside from a Gameweek 2 clash with Liverpool: the Blues take on Brighton, West Brom, Crystal Palace and Southampton in the opening five Gameweeks.

West Ham United may well be the team to avoid in the opening two months. After a favourable opening-weekend clash with Newcastle United, the Hammers then face six of last season’s top eight in quick succession.

We’ll be back later today with a more detailed inspection of the best and worst fixture schedules.

Our Season Ticker has been updated in the meantime, with Fantasy Football Scout subscribers able to sort by difficulty, attacking and defensive potential and rotation pairings.

    Thoughts on this 3-4-3?

    Mcarthy
    Vinagre, VVD, TAA
    Saint-Max, Salah, Auba(C), Armstrong
    Kane, Jimi, Mitro

    4.0 - Justin, 4.5mid, 4.0 Def

should be good for the first 2/3 fixtures at least.
i'm also not sure about double liverpool defense to start maybe VVD down and justin.

I'm a bit worried by the latest Periera update too, but the next Leicester option is 5.5, so it feels worth the risk with their fixtures.

regarding Justin, its an easy move to another 4.5. just filler right now tbh. I could potentially downgrade VVD and upgrade either maxim or Armstrong but thats only like 1.5m more. Will continue playing around with this team.

Why do you think Sess will play some minutes (at LB)? Possibly when the fixtures start to pile up, but I'd expect Sess/Cirkin to play in the cup games.

Rose has burnt his bridges and I'd be astonished if he played another minute for Spurs.

Hmmm, yeah, but he won't. The few minutes Sess played last year were largely at LW. Absolutely no evidence Mou trusts Sess to start at LB in the PL yet. If he starts more than one game there in the first 10-15 games I'd be astounded. Davies (unfortunately) is absolutely nailed at the moment.

The only thing that will change it is if we sign a more defensive RB and Mou is willing to switch our lopsided defence and free up Sess to play LWB. Signs point to Max Aarons being our top target, so it feels even more unlikely that he'll start too inexperienced full-backs.

He is good enough to set and forget imo at least for the first like 10 weeks. The stats are pretty strong for him. You don't want to spend too much money on the keeper slot either.

Southampton are 7th best for shots conceded since restart.
8th in shots conceded inside the box.
7th in shots conceded on target with 28. Liverpool had 24 by comparison.
11th in xGC (not the greatest) but in terms of actual goals conceded... they conceded 8 in the final 9 gameweeks which is 5th best in the league.

Southampton and Villa were by far the standout defenses since lockdown other than the big 6.

He is but at most you get 4 GWs out of him. I fully expect Wolves to sign another LWB. Maybe its just me, I don't really like using too many FTs on defenders.

Exactly. We all just move on to the next 4.5 option (and there are quite a few) if/when Wolves sign a Jonny replacement. In the meantime he's not moving from my team.

Using transfers on 4.5 defenders is a nice way to build team value early though it's a nice price point.

Remember Tomori Soy etc last season.

You say that like you can't build TV jumping on cheap-ish mids/strikers going through a purple patch 😀 More points to be gained that way as well imo.

I mean I didn't say that it was the only way, just that it is a way ha.

Obviously getting on the inevitable mid price bandwagon up front is likely to be more lucrative. I intend to do that also FWIW.

Worth taking the risk at first. I think Parker will have to become slightly more attacking compared to last year as our defence isn't good enough to win us games in the PL. You've got Haller/Antonio/Adams/Wood as well at that price point so you wouldn't be stuck with Mitro either.

Thoughts on working around blanks changed starting line-up to
    Ryan (button)
TAA Ferguson Vinagre (Taylor to start from gw2. 4.0)
    Salah Auba ASM Ziyech Soucek
    Mitro Werner (Martial)

Will be going from 3-5-2 to 3-4-3 from gw2 benching soucek and bringing on Martial
GW1 transfers Ziyech Salah > Greenwood Fernandes
GW2 Auba > KDB (Wolves always seem to have cities life so avoiding that fixture)
    GW3 ASM> Ziyech

Tried to find a way to get back to my original squad while making use of some nice fixtures, open to bright ideas

So the main takeaways for me:

The Soucek dilemma is solved - avoid all Hammers for now.
I had no intention of getting Mitrovic but with those fixtures, he's in - in a top heavy attack with Kane and Werner.
Vardy and Jimi wait in the wings if either flop.
I can go light in midfield in the absence of Mancs. United assets will trickle in one by one; City can wait awhile.
Liverpool and Wolves dominate my defence.
    McCarthy confirmed in goal.

Finding the £6m below mid that is good for points this season will be key.

          almost identical.

I decided that with Fulham's fixtures, I had to spend 1.5 to upgrade Davis to Mitro and skimp a bit in midfield. I'm calculating that in these early fixtures, Mitro will outscore a 6m midfielder.

Well Jim you'll keep for most of the season. The first 2 I'd play the fixtures with.

Anyone else making a team for GW1 and then wildcarding in GW2?

Too big of a waste. Gotta save that WC until at least GW 6.

With a 2 week International Break between GW4 & 5, as well as transfer window closing in that gap, plus Champions League & Europa league kicking in midweeks between GW 5 / 6 / 7...

That possibly makes the first 4 gameweeks their own little plan?

Big hitters wise for example: starting with Auba, Salah, Vardy, Werner gives a decent enough supply of fixtures:

GW1: ful, LEE (c), wba, bha
    GW2: WHM, CRY (c) , BUR, LIV
GW3: LEI (c), bha, mci, wba
GW4: lee, TOT, WHM, CRY (c)

    GW1: Salah (c)
    GW2: Salah > Bruno FT : Bruno (c)
    GW3: Auba > KDB FT : KDB (c)
GW4: Bank FT for post-IB - but still have a choice of Werner, Vardy or KDB (c)

You could have TAA, VVD, Vinagre at the back & Soucek in midfield & wouldn't be far away from good XI's in those first 4 GW's I think - would be nice to somehow be able to carry Greenwood on the bench GW1 to have him for GW2 but he may need to be the fall guy...

Too much can go wrong in that period, however I am all for spending transfers on big hitters, since the potential there is the highest

In which period... GW1-4? Do you think the planning horizon is too long or too short?

I'm only seeing three standout captaincy fixtures this side of boxing day (GW1, GW6, GW7)... if I can get one of those three in GW1 I'm not sure he's really going to destroy non-owners either side of those games (famous last words)

But yeah always a bit of a risk going without Mo

I like a lot of this. I'd prefer to bench Bruno GW1 to have the FT used elsewhere personally.

The other option is risking it without Bruno for GW2 as Auba has a captainable fixture there too

I like this better tbh. 2 FT will be nice in GW3.

Yeah its a bit of a headscratcher - but could work

Altough we know exactly what Bruno will do vs Palace if trying to hokey cokey

Two pens, a DFK & two assists for a 25 point haul or something of that ilk...

Orrrrr Salah nabs a goal at Chelsea whilst captain Auba hauls 2G 1A at home to West Ham, whilst Bruno gets a solitary assist in a 1-1 Hodgson masterclass 😉

I'm thinking Greenwood on bench GW1 to save £, as better captain options than Bruno from GW3 onwards. And Auba can be GW2 captain as Maximums points out.

I've got a provisional plan along those lines, but keeping it flexible.

Eg Salah > KDB but if Salah's doing well, it can wait.
Son > Bruno (I have the cash)

Apart from Kev and Bruno, I'll until after Inty Break/TDD for other Manc assets

Anyone dare to go without KDB for the first 8? Looks like I won't captain him at all too then so I can use those money for extra value attacker like Rashford, Werner, Kane, Jimmy, Vardy?

Having seen the fixtures my thought is to really take my time bringing City assets in. If and when he starts firing I'll make a move but I can see it being a few GWs down the line.

    What do you think?

    McCarhty/ Nylan
    Gomez, Digne, Vinagre, Dier/ Douglas
    Auba, Salah, Son, Ziyech/ Ritchie
    Vardy, Mitro/ Davies

Need suggestions on this setup. I mostly go for 3-5-2.

Dubravka, Ryan (Need to check for SHU GK price before GW1)
    Egan, Dunk, Coady, 4.0, 4.0
    Auba, Salah, Willian, Perez, Noble
    Kane, Ings, 4.5

straight swaps to be made from GW2 onwards Auba -> DeBruyne, Willian -> Fernandes and Kane -> Martial.

I don't know how to adjust TAA in all this?
