Scoutcast Episode 354 – How can FPL bosses fit in Salah, De Bruyne and Fernandes?

Joe and Az are joined by Karam to look ahead to Gameweek 11 and assess the key challenges facing Fantasy Premier League managers.

Chief among their concerns is the postponement of Friday night’s clash between Aston Villa and Newcastle United. There is a chance that it could be rearranged within the Gameweek but if not, FPL managers face some tough choices. Should they bench or swap out the likes of Villa talisman Jack Grealish (£7.7m) or Newcastle striker Callum Wilson (£6.5m)?

Our Scoutcast trio also discuss the three most talked about players of the week: Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (£12.2m), Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne (£11.7m) and Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes (£10.9m). These midfield picks are showing remarkable consistency but with hefty price tags, it may be tricky to fit them all in. Can they be ‘covered’ by the likes of Reds midfielder Diogo Jota (£6.8m) and City winger Riyad Mahrez (£8.3m)?

Pep Guardiola’s latest round of roulette is also on the bill. This chat will be of particular interest to those clinging onto City rotation risks such as Raheem Sterling (£11.4m).

Meanwhile, Joe, Az and Karam give their top tips for climbing up the rankings ahead of Christmas. Within this section, Karam takes his turn to pick a differential, which garners approval from Joe and Az.

The usual features are also covered in the show, with next four fixtures frisked, rough with the smooths aired, and transfer and captaincy plans revealed.

Was planning to save FT this week but yet another spanner in the works!.... do I just suck it up and have no GK and play Cresswell or switch one of the blankers out?

    1FT 0.5itb
    (Martinez*)
    Robbo*, Chilwell, KWP, Cresswell
    KDB (C), Bruno, Ziyech
    Vardy, Bamford, DCL
    (Forster) (Grealish*, Stephens, Branthwaite)

Options if I use an FT include:
    Grealish > Jota / Stephens > Riedwald/ Romeu

Or I could do: Robbo, Stephens > Dallas, Jota (-4)....

    Cheers

I’d normally say a keeper isn’t worth a hit, but really it’s only -2 when compared to non starter.

Im not keen on Martinez v wolves, but there are 3 nice fixtures to follow. There’s also not a great candidate in sub 5 price bracket.

      McCarthy v Brighton
      Meslier v Chelsea
Johnstone V palace then Newcastle is probably best short term but then needs transferring out.

I’m most interested in Robertson and Martinez to Ederson and premium defender.

I'm a 'set and forget' keeper type so would prefer not to go for a short term option or a premium GK that will tie up too much funds later.

With Martinez it is either leave or move to McCarthy I think.

Really hope Robbo is actually fine - really happy owing him atm

I agree with set and forget, just not happy with McCarthy.

Hope Robertson is fine but any risk he’s rested / injured (and he’s due a rest) then selling him opens up an interesting premium defender and keeper combo. Better this week and possibly matches Robbo over next few too

Mahrez could be a great pick but obviously comes with risk as he is quite streaky but for now he must be nailed

    Tip of the day :
If you have Martinez & another non-playing 4.0m GK ; sell Martinez for - 4pts! Its worth it! As it will be like a - 2 pts transfer!
Possible Replacements : Meslier , Johnstone

True but you can just bring in Targett or Konsa when the time comes.

I've taken the opportunity to get Mendy, like OP says it's a -2 in reality which I can live with.

Yes, but before that may be time to use 2nd WC. They haven't had date for the first missed fixtures yet, so wouldn't expect anything to happen too soon.

Then in 2 weeks likely have to take another hit to transfer again. Not worth it unless you go long term premium keeper (Mandy or Ederson)

I agree with this, it's worth doing if you're getting a long term keeper, not a stopgap.

If you have a non playing keeper then that is by design as you rather the money out on the pitch, so really you are likely to want to take a replacement out again in the future which is another transfer you have to make, possibly leading to another -4 as most people have more pressing concerns than changing keeper

Mendy has played twice as many minutes as Kepa for Chelsea in the league this season, but they have the same amount of saves....

    Mendy
    540 mins
    8 saves

    Kepa
    270
    8 saves

    How does that work??

It's not that weird tho is it? He is not playing. Like people transferred out Salah when he was out with Corona. I transferred Salah > Bruno (C) and got me 22 points. People ditching Grealish to get in the likes of Mahrez and KDB, which is very understandable. The game is about getting points, and Grealish will get you 0 this week. Can bring him back later.

      McCarthy, (Forster).
      Chilwell, James, Webster, (Targett, Dallas).

if there are no more cases and the training ground is allowed to reopen on Friday (i think that was stated as an option), then in theory you could play on Tues/Weds and thus same GW for FPL.

Neither team being in europe does open up more possible midweek slots, although if there is a fear of more postponements to follow (Villa already have gw1 to reschedule with City), then there may be a desire to play this ASAP?

Willing to take a hit to fix stuff. I have to get KDB and captain him now!

      A) Sterling&Martinez to KDB&Meslier -4 (actually cant afford just Sterling to KDB for free, need that 0.1)
      B) Kane&Ziyech to Bamford and KDB -4 (Sterling to Salah the week after) No goalkeeper but keep Martinez for DGW.

Can see upside in both those move but leaning to A since Sterling looks like 50/50 to start, cant have 1 pointer risk for 10+ player.
Who says Kane and Ziyech couldnt match those 2 if I go B? Good fixture for both actually.

This is true. But most people who are keeping grealish like me are people who have a lot of value tied up in him and don't want to take a hit just to get him back next week and lose money

100% this, I bought him for 7.0 he's going nowhere.

Yes we do.....however we wont be using transfers to get them in and frankly i am not getting rid of Grealish simply for one GW. My bench is good enough to cover. As for Martinez I am keeping the faith as he hasn't done anything wrong and got great fixtures.

Maybe I am just trying to convince myself of getting rid of Grealish. Bought at 7.1. But the game is about getting points. People who transferred out Salah when he was out won, at least if you got Bruno which many did.

Grealish will get 0 this weekend, and playing away against Wolves next match. If the DGW comes unexpected and fast, then advantage to the ones who held him, if you get a lot of weeks of planning then I see most serious players at least getting in Grealish for the DGW.

You don't yet know if Grealish will get 0. Wait to see when it is rearranged.

Well if they play obviously I'm keeping. This really messed my plans up, so hopefully they play, but that's very unlikely it seems.

If you want to sell Grealish go right ahead, but a lot of people will balk at selling a player they are probably going to want to buy back soon for more than they just sold for, burning a transfer.

A lot of those who sold Salah are going to be bringing him back in for hits as well. I prefer not to play the game week to week, but to plan ahead.

More likely people are keeping as they want him long-term (one of the most essential picks in the game at price-point IMO) plus Villa have a good run of fictures and now 2 DGWs.

Also remember he doesnt get 0 - he gets whatever the sub gets. granted thats likely a 2 from a Bissouma, Brewster etc

If people want to take a hit to get him back in for DGW you are already up 4 points on them by holding

Wanted to do just Digne > City def. but I've got Wilson, Grealish and Martinez + Mitchell warming the bench so I guess another hit is on the cards. Question is do I take out Martinez and play Bissouma or go 1 round without a keeper?

      Martinez*
      Robbo Chilwell Coufal Digne*
      Salah Bruno Son
      DCL Adams Wilson*
      (Bissouma Mitchell* Grealish*)

      A) Digne & Martinez > Walker & McCarthy (-4); play Bissouma
      B) Digne & Wilson > Dias & Abraham (-4); go without a keeper
      C) Digne & Bissouma > KWP & Bowen (-4); go without a keeper
      D) Digne > Walker; play Bissouma and go without a keeper

similar boat here. Will likely just play no keeper, the 2 DGW's Martinez now has outweigh the zero

        Likely I will do;
        1) Watkins > Adams (play Bissouma or Coufal)
        2) Bissouma > JWP (play Coufal)
        3) Both for -4 (Coufal first sub)

With Robertson and Cancelo in defence i need a playing sub so probably option 1 or 3 here

Sterling, DCL, Grealish-->KDB, Mahrez,Bamford(or Che Adams)

People here are wondering about chance of this particular Avl fixture to be rescheduled to happen in very near future. They should remember that cancelled fixtures from gw1 don't have date yet and there are zero guarantees that also next Avl fixture vs Wolves won't be postponed also.

you are right about the gw1 fixtures - though those have been hard due to City and United both being in the CL

it seems that the reason for postponement was the training ground being clsed so unable to prepare for game, as opposed to unable to play as cant field 14. if the training ground reopens this Friday and not many players test +ve then there is a chance of playing on Tues/Weds next week - just wait until Friday pressers

Cheers...I am not convinced that dias will not be rotated this week....don't want the risk.

And Im Keen on getting the power 5 midfield of salah kdb Bruno grealish and jota

Think jota better than the cheap strikers.

I'll do vardy and ziyech to salah and brewster next week
