Scoutcast Episode 354 – How can FPL bosses fit in Salah, De Bruyne and Fernandes?

Joe and Az are joined by Karam to look ahead to Gameweek 11 and assess the key challenges facing Fantasy Premier League managers.

Chief among their concerns is the postponement of Friday night’s clash between Aston Villa and Newcastle United. There is a chance that it could be rearranged within the Gameweek but if not, FPL managers face some tough choices. Should they bench or swap out the likes of Villa talisman Jack Grealish (£7.7m) or Newcastle striker Callum Wilson (£6.5m)?

Our Scoutcast trio also discuss the three most talked about players of the week: Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (£12.2m), Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne (£11.7m) and Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes (£10.9m). These midfield picks are showing remarkable consistency but with hefty price tags, it may be tricky to fit them all in. Can they be ‘covered’ by the likes of Reds midfielder Diogo Jota (£6.8m) and City winger Riyad Mahrez (£8.3m)?

Pep Guardiola’s latest round of roulette is also on the bill. This chat will be of particular interest to those clinging onto City rotation risks such as Raheem Sterling (£11.4m).

Meanwhile, Joe, Az and Karam give their top tips for climbing up the rankings ahead of Christmas. Within this section, Karam takes his turn to pick a differential, which garners approval from Joe and Az.

The usual features are also covered in the show, with next four fixtures frisked, rough with the smooths aired, and transfer and captaincy plans revealed.

Grealish was 7.1m when I got him, now 7.7m, no way he leaves my team with the fixtures ahead, even if he does have to sit on the bench for 1 gameweek (they may even be played still).

Anyone considering WC or FreeHit having Martinez, Grealish, Mitchell, Cancelo and no other City players?
I have 9 out of 10 (no Kane only) most owned players and kinda lost here.

Pretty much this. You can get a team full of DGW players with FH later so no point using it to patch couple of holes this wweek.

I think I am - will come off for me in terms of points gain if City put Fulham to the sword with Jesus, Mahrez and KDB in the points

Problem is what if Mahrez and Jesus are benched (which is entirely possible)? Heck I'm not even convinced KDB is guaranteed every week like before after reading that report that he asked to be rotated due to fatigue

Son/Grealish > KDB/Mahrez (-4)? Not losing any significant value in Grealish, and would likely get him back in GW13.

Losing grealish for Mahrez doesnt seem right. Sure grealish misses this week and mahrez probably plays, but easily it will be the other way around the next week with a mahrez benching and then grealish is back. Plus grealish will then have a double double up his sleeve. Not against Son>kdb however but if youre upgrading both seems like you must have funds to just do son > kdb

Am intending to do Mahrez > Jota next GW to give me Pool cover for Fulham, then back to Grealish in 13. I don't fancy Villa away to Wolves, and will already have Watkins & Martinez for it.

    Best move here?

    A. Martinez > Mendy (forget about the Villa dgw)
    B. Steer > Johnstone/Meslier/Mccarthy

Keen to take a hit for a playing gk as it frees up a Villa spot for me to get Grealish later.

    Martinez Steer
    Chilwell Konsa Coufal Kilman Mitchell
    KDB Bruno Son Jota Anguissa
    Vardy DCL Bamford

        Next week's plan was:
        A. DCL & Son to Mo and Adams or Welbz; or
        B. Kane and Son to Mo and anybody mid-price

        for free.

Now need Bailey Peacock to play again and for Cancelo to play or Brewster to do something this week for that to work.

Its not just that. The upcoming few fixtures for Martinez are the best for clean sheets. If i get someone like mccarthy and he doesn't keep clean sheet i lose 2 points in the hit so in the end not worth it. Even if it works out I'll only be 2 or 3 points better off.

It's a completely legitimate option, yet people treat it with horror for some reason. Maybe because it makes you look like you hadn't planned ahead, but clearly others are in the same boat, and taking hits can just make the problem worse.

    Team currently is:

    McCarthy
    Chilwell - Justin - KWP
    Bruno - Son - JRod - Pereira
    Vardy - Werner - DCL

    Peacock-Farrell, Dallas, Mitchell, Grealish

    Mendy (Forster)
    Chilwell Lamptey Coufal (Lewis Mitchell)
    Salah Son Jota Foden (Anguissa)
    Vardy Kane DCL

    1FT £0.5m

Foden out feels like the priority. I'd like KDB, but the fact he's only scored one goal all season means I'm tempted to just let him be this week.

    a) Save
    b) Foden + Kane > KDB (c) + Adams (-4)
    c) Mitchell > Dallas (improves bench and after this week Leeds have a nice run of fixtures)

I plan to keep the free transfer, have 2 free transfers for the 12th gameweek and make a mini wild card (2-3 transfers). I'd love to finally see Salah on my team.

    McCarthy, Nyland
    chilwell, Konsa, Taylor, Justin, Tierney
    KDB, Son, Bruno, Jota, Bissouma
    Kane, DCL, Bamford
    (0.5M in the bank)

Any ideas? Best defenders from 12gw? Maybe DCL to Antonio?

    Martinez
    Chilwell, Dias, Cancelo, Webster
    KDB, Fernandes, Ziyech, Riedewald
    Vardy, DCL

    Forster, Kilman, Grealish, Watkins

    GW11

Why are you getting n.williams? Trent back soon, and potentially he will block a future liverpool slot. If its just for dead bench fodder pick another random 3.9m def.

      Otherwise look like sound plans

hi lords and ladies, please can i get some advice -

    Mendy, Button
    Dias, Justin, Mitchell, Taylor, Konsa
    KDB, Rodriguez, Son, Fernandes, Mendy
    Kane, DCL, Bamford
    0.1 in the bank.

I was all set to do Rodriguez to Grealish but as the game is off - i think i will save the FT.

    Good idea?

Why would it be for a hit. When rashford is 9.5 and mahrez is 8.3. If for no hit then maybe - dont rate mahrez though. But for a hit, no - makes no sense

Even Fulham with their tails up are exactly the kind of team that City could batter in their sleep

Never under estimate someone or something that has nothing to lose.
A team like Fulham really couldn’t do much worse then they have been, they either maintain their level or get better.
I don’t like betting against whipping boys with the armband (sometimes I do, but not always, it’s gone wrong many times in my experience)

This is true, Fulham have looked better. But I dont think the matchup favours them with City. Fulham did well against Leicester because Leicester couldnt penetrate through the middle, maddison is no KDB, and had incredibly poor full backs so there was no width. Fulham were then also quite good on the ball and managed to play out from the back and into good positions. Was very impressive to be honest, but City are just not the team for them I dont think. City have fantastic full backs with proper width, and then they have KDB to open it up through the middle. And then they will never get outplayed on the ball by Fulham so its going to need to be some GK heroics to save Fulham really.

Cancelo the big question mark - Ayling can cover for him. Riding the wave with Martinez. Saves me from a FH or a WC

Very nice. Have you got a FT to sort Martinez? I'm considering a -4 to upgrade Steer to sort my Martinez issue.

        • 7 Years

Unfortunately not - that team above is with a -4 as I don't currently have KdB atm. Risky but dont want to go into this GW with no attacking City cover so think the -4 is worth it
