Cooper return sees Struijk drop to Leeds bench for Yorkshire derby

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has made just one change to his side for the Gameweek 30 meeting with Sheffield United.

Captain Liam Cooper (£4.3m) returns to the starting XI for the first time since Gameweek 27, named alongside Diego Llorente (£4.4m) at centre-back.

With Kalvin Phillips (£4.9m) reestablished in midfield following a positive international break, there is no place in the team for Pascal Struijk (£4.0m).

The budget defender drops to the bench for the first time since Gameweek 14, having only missed the Gameweek 27 defeat at West Ham through injury.

That will be of some disappointment to Struijk’s 5.6% ownership considering Leeds’ latest opponents Sheffield United are the Premier League’s worst goal-scoring side on the road this season.

In 14 away matches, they have found the net just six times, working out at 0.4 per game.

Stuart Dallas (£5.1m) will be relishing this afternoon’s encounter though, considering more time on the bench for Mateusz Klich (£5.2m) should make for another outing at central midfield alongside Tyler Roberts (£4.6m).

The 13 goals conceded by Sheffield United in their last six matches has put some of the Fantasy focus on Raphinha (£5.7m) and Patrick Bamford (£6.7m) this afternoon.

They are the differential captains among the top 10,000 Fantasy managers for Gameweek 30, earning the backing of 3.6% and 3.2% at that level respectively.

Gameweek 30 Line-ups

Leeds United XI: Meslier; Alioski, Cooper, Llorente, Ayling; K Phillips; Harrison, Dallas, Roberts, Raphinha; Bamford.

Sheffield United XI: Ramsdale; Stevens, Jagielka, Bogle; Osborn, Fleck, Norwood, Lundstram, Baldock; McBurnie, McGoldrick.

Gameweek 30 so far…

West Bromwich Albion executed a shock win at Stamford Bridge in the lunch-time kick-off, making a mockery of recent claims about the Chelsea defence.

Matheus Pereira (£5.3m) and Callum Robinson (£5.2m) both found the net twice in a shock 5-2 win, Thomas Tuchel’s first Premier League defeat after a streak of two goals conceded in 10 matches.

The Baggies were helped by a sending off for Thiago Silva (£5.6m) in the first half but were arguably the better side throughout.

There was mixed emotions for those invested in Chelsea, whose line-ups are increasingly becoming as hard to predict as Manchester City’s.

Antonio Rüdiger (£4.7m) was benched for the second time in three Gameweeks and remained there for the duration while Mason Mount (£ was also among the substitutes, although the midfielder came on to grab a second-half goal.

While Marcos Alonso (£5.7m) beat the Tuchel Tombola as predicted, he ended the afternoon with just three points.

He did add plenty of attacking threat, hitting the post twice and coming away with an assist but he lost two points due to the number of goals Chelsea conceded.

Provisional bonus points

  • 3 – Matheus Pereira
  • 2 – Callum Robinson
  • 1 – Mbaye Diagne

    WC31:

    Lloris / Leno
    Rudiger / TAA / Coady / Dias / Coufal
    Gundo / Bruno / Son / Jota / Neto
    Kane / Antonio / Iheanacho

This would set me up well for a BB in GW32 with the hope of saving a FT. Then I will have 2 FT to offload Lloris to free up cash and 1 FT to spare.

Solid plan? Thoughts on the WC? Any input would be appreciated.

When Laca starts and gets good minutes he has a pretty good record, just never a certain thing is it. Fixtures are very enticing though.

I’d love to write an article about luck
      So many different types.......
      1. Jammy luck (like you pick Rudiger as you can’t afford Azpilli then he gets benched in a mauling)
      2. Bad timing luck... you play your wildcard a week after a team looks great then they become useless
      3. Unlucky luck, your player (captain) scores an OG because he tried to prevent a goal
      4. Flukey luck. You keeper saves a pen because a striker is rubbish
      5. 50/50 luck which puts you in a chasing position

Imo FPL is currently 75% luck/25% skill

More interesting piece would be about reducing bad luck for your team

        Pick non international players
        Pick captains
        Pick penalty takings
Pick keepers with best history of saving pens
Always have 2 on bench that play each week

I agree it's 75% luck, 25% skill in any given week. But over 38 gameweeks it's almost 100% skill. All the variance in the luck cancels itself out, leaving only skill as a determinant of rank. The only place luck really comes in is the difference between a top 1K finish, and winning the thing.

      8. fusen

If it was 75% luck it means 3 players could completely randomly select a starting 11 players based on nothing but picking names out of a hat and they'd beat the final 1 player out of a group of 4.

That obviously isn't the case. 1 player choosing obviously good FPL picks will do better than 3 players picking an 11 out of a hat.

You need to have the initial decision making to make sense. The final part of your "good on paper" team actually playing 90 minutes of real football is where the luck enters.

        It isn't 75/25 luck. It's closer to 60/40 decision making/luck

Yes, but there’s a pool of maybe 30-40 players that we would want at the start of the season. You get lucky or unlucky with the ones you pick
Player A might have played amazingly but played B gets 2 pens, as the penalty taker has gone off injured
The 95% people who don’t have him then play catch up

      9. pingissimus
        • 5 Years
        3 years, 23 days ago

Most of those are incidental and affect marginally one Gameweek score.

W/C luck I don't buy into and 50/50 luck is down as much to good instincts and judgment calls that will balance out

Is anyone watching this on Amazon prime? My picture looks very 'dull'. I normally watch football on an IPTV service and the NBC stream I can get via that also looks a bit dark but not as much.

I'm not sure if it's just the colour of the pitch or the cameras are struggling with contrast due to the shadow of the stand covering half the pitch

Bought Bale for -4 in the BGW like many others...
Then minutes before the deadline for this GW I was between Bale to Son and Strujik to Dallas/Shaw, did the former.

The way it is going... Bale will have a huge haul, as will Dallas and Shaw, right?

Btw, I sympathize for all the owners of triple Chelsea assets. At least some has pts from Mount.

          Dias - FH33
Raph - would love to keep him and play wheneve possible but Neto's fixtures look temptng
Cresswell - Westham's fixtures look tougher, Should we better off getting a defender from arsenal, Liverpool or Leicster who have better fixtures?

Cresswell fixtures improve - not a necessary hold but would only lose him for another defender with big upside for attacking returns - TAA/Robbo perhaps

Raph now has returns in something like 9 of the last 12 - seems folly to lose him unless it's a big upgrade imo

Baldock being allowed to play on, now goes down and needs to be subbed.

So basically he should have been subbed off initially when he first went down.

Absolute joke the way players are allowed to play on after head injuries
