FPL Gameweek 8: The key player and team statistics

Our Big Numbers piece looks at the key player and team statistics ahead of the next Fantasy Premier League (FPL) deadline.

We’ve again run down the stand-out figures in every position for this article, as well as looking at the strengths and weaknesses of various clubs.

These stats all come from our Premium Members’ Area and only subscribers can read the full article; those wishing to sign up to our site and continue reading, as well as see a list of the benefits that Membership brings, can do so by clicking here.

90% of the shots faced on target by Aaron Ramsdale (£4.6m) have been saved, which is the best save percentage of any goalkeeper with over one appearance. Arsenal have kept three clean sheets from the four games since Ramsdale and Takehiro Tomiyasu (£4.6m) were handed debuts, alongside the return from injuries of Ben White (£4.4m) and Gabriel (£5.0m).

13 goal attempts from bargain centre-back Shane Duffy (£4.3m). The Brighton man dominates set-piece threat stats, with more shots than any other defender. He has scored once and gained an assist for winning a penalty against Leicester City. His rate of 48.5 minutes-per-chance only falls behind Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) and Aymeric Laporte (£5.5m) of those defenders with substantial minutes.

10 touches in the opposition area from Matty Cash (£5.1m) since Aston Villa’s switch to a wing-back system. Cash has been allowed more attacking freedom over the past three Gameweeks, also coming second amongst defenders for shots (five). His goal and clean sheet against Everton returned 15 points.

217 touches in the attacking third recorded by Luke Shaw (£5.4m), the most by any defender. Despite falling in price and losing over 1.6 million owners, he ranks ahead of Joao Cancelo (£6.2m) and Alexander-Arnold. Additionally, he has the second-most successful passes in this portion of the pitch (108) for a defender and is third for chances created (18).

FPLMarc Newcastle fan that spends far too much time thinking about FPL.

I am in 2 minds regarding him. I know that on WC is the perfect time to bring him in because it won't require hits later on, and you already have him ready for the good fixture run. But also I know that my drafts without him are so much more solid and balanced. I've said it before on here but Son is such a boom or bust asset, even more so than Vardy because Spurs may win only 1-0 and he can be the sole scorer and get 10 points or he could just get 3 so you never know

      1. Bruno Commando
        • 9 Years
        2 years, 6 months ago

Same thoughts regarding WC being the perfect time to bring him in. And agree with you that he seems to be a boom or bust asset. I think I can have quite a good team with him at the moment!

        Ramsdale // Foster
TAA Cancelo Dias Rudiger // Manquillo
Salah Son Mbeumo // ESR DouglasLuiz
        Lukaku Antonio Hwang

I like that team as is. Only concern would be if Hwang doesn't follow up his performances you'll be left with 2 strikers and 2 budget mids you can't really do much with but it seems it is Hwangs spot to lose as is and you can downgrade in defense if need be even later on, something like a city defender to Ederson and Livra for cash or even just to Walker/Laporte

Gotta be. Cashley won't pay Brucie off. So the new regime comes in, hired a classy manager as a statement, and player recruitment is lined up for the summer. The challenge is to get Newcastle into the Top 17 for that.

Pretty template = pretty good, only reservations for me would be (i) if Hwang does not bang you have noweher to go; and (ii) is Townsend best choice of Everton 3? (I think he is, but... Doucoure is the 90 min man)

On WC, maybe yes. Gray appears to be doing really well under Rafa, but has never really been an option before in several years as an FPL asset.
What I was trying to say is I think Townsend is probably the best, but with DCL and Rich coming back, who knows what will happen? Doucoure is playing out of his skin too and is super nailed.

Was reading the other day that out of the Everton 3 Doucoure produced the best stats in DCL's games before injury.
Gray outscored him obviously, but he totally overperformed for these points.
        Something to think about

Depends who will be replacing them of course but B, in saying that I think they both are likely to get a return next match

Jota is a doubt to play, cameo at best, losing one of them allows to get Citeh def for a long term prospect plus frees up funds to reshaffle the team

    What's better on a WC:

    A - Vardy, Mbuemo, Duffy
    B - Toney, Foden, Dias

I like B but A is more nailed and long term picks

B for me but not a big fan of the Foden pick but worth a punt for the next 3 as there's enough replacements in that price range

    best City attacker to get?

    1) Jesus
    2) Foden
    3) Grealish
    4) Mahrez

KDB is too expensive atm, but one or 2 hauls and he will be in most of the teams.

sorry, not most, but quite a number of teams. Will take a proper amount of hauls to get into many let alone most.

I personally would go with 1, but him likely not playing next week puts me off a little as he would've been a good C pick

It’s part of the reason. Him not starting gave Everton a psychological boost. The other part is Ole being a mediocre manager which is why he messed the game up with his tactics.

Rafa Benitez is a senior manager, you just don’t rotate the line up & bench good players when you’re up against an experienced manager even more so than you

Majority of the PL managers are more experienced than Ole though, with that logic he wouldn't be able to rest his players at all.

Rafa won the CL in 05 & this squad at his disposal is better than the Newcastle side he managed from an attacking perspective.

Also, It’s not like Everton have been bad this seasn

      I think Cr7 will be an issue at Utd because of 2 reasons;

      1) He is a megastar who has performed exemplary for a very long time, but now is 36 years with less movement, pressing (which Utd need of him as he is not the same) and pace. Him being Cr7, he still thinks in his head (and most of the Utd players think the same unfortunately) that he is the best and would turn things around for them. I think expectation should be slightly managed by both Cr7 himself and other players of him. I think Cavani can offer similar threat to Cr7 when he starts so he should accept rotation once in a while.

      2) Ole gamestyle is not possession based, but typical ping pong passes, working hard and using the likes of Bruno's shooting/Pogba's passes to unlock defenders etc. Cr7 will give them goals but won't work as hard as others in closing down defenders hence the burden will be on Bruno to do it more often which in all honesty he is not that good on it. Tbh, I can't see them winning anything with the way they play, a Manager change would be important but it will still take time anyway hence this season would be a difficult season for Utd. They will still be a decent team who can challenge for the CL places but as long as they are not changing how they play, they will just win nothing.

This kind of sums it up. Top teams today needs strikers that are also mobile and good defenders. When United even before adding Ronaldo had problems with this, it was not a shock that those problems persists to go away. Sancho also critically bad in defensive abilities. And when you then have to play apogva deep it is really not a cohesive and coherent unit. Not really sure which manager will actually do well with this team.

At the same time Brazil is as close as you get to being qualified already and will be qualified after the second match. That could prompt a change of scenery

Armstrong punt on WC for (LEE, BUR, wat) - should be on pens for those with JWP suspended and then move to Toney for (NOR, new, etc…)
    OR
Just start with Toney for (CHE, LEI, bur, etc…)

A bit undecided on what to do with this team. Shaw, Benrahma and possibly sarr out should be priority I feel. Obviously waiting on TAA fitness news. Any advice here would be helpful. 1 ft and 1.1 itb.
