The FPL Gameweek 10 preview: Player and team statistics

Our Big Numbers piece looks at the key player and team statistics ahead of the next Fantasy Premier League (FPL) deadline.

We’ve again run down the stand-out figures in every position for this article, as well as looking at the strengths and weaknesses of various clubs.

Cash shows more attacking threat, how Hwang fared, why Jimenez was benched: FPL notes 3

4.9 minutes per baseline bonus point (BBPS) recorded by Emiliano Martinez (£5.5m) this season, the best rate of any FPL goalkeeper. A penalty save against Arsenal helped but no top-flight shot-stopper has accrued more BBPS for pass completion. Martinez has more actual bonus points (seven) than any goalkeeper in 2021/22, just as he did last season.

38.6 minutes per chance presented to Ben Chilwell (£5.8m) this season, the best rate among FPL defenders in 2021/22 other than Arsenal’s deputy left-back Nuno Tavares (£4.3m).

24 penalty box touches registered by Matty Cash (£5.1m) since the start of the season, the most among Fantasy defenders. A total of 19 of them have come in the last six Gameweeks, with six of his seven shots in the opposition area also recorded during this period. Dean Smith has been deploying Cash as a wing-back in a 3-5-2 from Gameweeks 4-9, affording him more attacking freedom, although three defeats on the bounce could prompt a change of system this weekend.

6 shots in the box recorded by Antonio Rudiger (£5.8m) in the last six Gameweeks, a total that no other FPL defender can better in that time. Much has been made of the attacking threat offered by the full-backs/wing-backs of Chelsea and Manchester City but the Germany international, whose left-sided centre-half role allows him to ghost forward even during open play, has had 10 efforts overall from Gameweek 4 onwards.

10 of the 28 Premier League goals scored by FPL defenders are on Chelsea’s books. The Blues’ backline is responsible for 43% of the goals that Thomas Tuchel’s side have scored in 2021/22 and two more than their midfielders have plundered as a collective.

129 touches in the final third recorded by Tyrick Mitchell (£4.5m) over the last six Gameweeks, the best total among sub-£5.0m defenders in that time. Crystal Palace sit top of our Season Ticker from Gameweeks 11-20, once their trip to Manchester City is out of the way.

I feel like it's just as likely that Mount continues his form from before last week than go on some run of decent returns.

Real kneejerk flavour to his mass transfers in

Mitchell is on my watchlist as a 4th/5th midfielder. His cross for Benteke (even he couldn't miss that one was sublime). So much improved this year on the eye test. Lamptey is the other one

    A) James to Chilwell
    B1) Raphina to Mount
    B2) Raphina to Jota

    A or B1 or B2, or A and B1/B2 for -4?

probably A, but would personally consider to keep James and look for other route to have Chillwell

        Thanks.

Already got Dias, TAA, Cancelo and Liveramento, and think they all are more secure starters? Midfield is a mess, but with limited funds and few great options, I believe the points are easier to get in defence?

Have already swapped Alonso and chilwell after 3 blanks from Alonso. Also have cancelo and Duffy there… so I need one more playing defender, will even take a hit in case Marcal doesn’t play again and Duffy is v Liverpool.

I would expect Thiago Silva and Christensen and Rudiger to be the first choice CBs, with Azpi switching between there and RWB. So Chalobah will get games but will be prone to rotation I’d say.

You have Chelsea defensive cover in Rudiger so not sure if -8 is necessary...and Marcal is not a terrible backup with his fixture this week...CS odds fairly high for Wolves. Next week definitely.

    Salah, Foden, Havertz, Mbuemo
    Vardy, Antonio, Hwang

    B. Mbuemo to Raph (if fit)

ya just saw ur team below its a tough one with the benching headache but we have a few rotation risks, I really am not sure what to do tbh, but I think Chilwell will start this weekend so I am leaning towards just getting him in and then trimming the squad over the next few weeks so I remove the headache, but it is inevitable that there will be cameos and hauls benched with our set up.

Hey guys, just a quick look at the team and thoughts for the following GW’s moves barring no major injuries.

    Sanchez
    Cancelo - Chillwell - Dias
    Havertz - Raphinha - Salah - Son - Benrahma
    Toney - Vardy
    ______________________________________
    Foster: Livramento: Tierney: Scarlett

    0 FT’s, 0.0 ITB

Horror show last GW, god I hope this week is better.

Was thinking for GW 11: Tierney + Havertz >> TAA + Kovacic?
Just shy of affording Mbuemo as will only have 5.5 if doing Tierney to TAA.

Just trying to plan ahead really, got some serious ground to make up now.

    Cheers gents.

Wouldn't go Kovacic when Mbeumo a better option

Hey man! Cheers. Hmmmm good question. I do actually want rid of Benrahma quite soon so maybe he good for down to a cheapie and upgrade Scarlett to Hwang perhaps and then just always bench the cheap mid?
ESR good shout, maybe I could opt for him if he stays at 5.5 before Kovacic

I found out that the team I have right now would be 1m over budget if I tried to make it in GW1.

Chilwell, Brownhill, Foden, Kane, Toney all bought under starting price.

I don't think that's too common. Being given only half the price increases and losing the full value will usually hurt you throughout the season value wise. I think this might be the first time I've had this and I even have 0.4m ITB.

Dont get people transfering out Benrahma... Even though he hasnt scored as much as he did at first, he is still getting in good positions, good chances, nailed in a good West Ham team and has that selfishness that you need in a FPL player... At 6.5M think he has insane value over the season.. points will come...

I hope you’re right my man! Would love him to return a good score against Villa this GW

I dont think its about him purely in isolation its the fact that Antonio is a better West ham asset and people dont want to double up with Liverpool and City in the next 4, im sure he will tick over fine over the season and people will jump back on as Fixtures improve but at this moment its an easy sell for the next few imo

I can see the logic in that move, I myself transferred him out for GW 6 and not regretting it

Had a good preseason and a very good first two game weeks. But looks to have reverted to last season's form, 1 goal in 7 games, creating attacking opportunities but either missing goals or attempted assists not being converted.

Selling vs. Villa could cause some pain, but honestly I dropped him in my GW4 WC as he's mostly taking shots from outside the box & has continued to do so for the most part.

    Thoughts on this WC draft:

    Guiata Foster
    Jansson Chili TAA Cancelo Livramento
    Mount Mbeumo Jota Foden Salah
    Toney Kane Gelhardt

    Thanks

Final call before price changes so I know I’m sure…

Have exact funds for 2, just unsure who I’d bench if so:

    Ramsdale
    TAA Cancelo James
    Salah Foden Mbeumo Raphinha
    Vardy Antonio Jimenez

    Foster Livramento Brownhill Duffy

    1FT, 1.5 itb

    1. James >> Chilwell
    2. Duffy >> Chilwell (deep squad, bench headache)
    3. Save

    Thanks

Yeah, the lingering cameo risk is real, I suppose. I'm usually not one for benching headaches but 2 probably makes the most sense tbh.

interesting that there are 3 of us on this page pondering the same move with virtually the same team and all our main concerns are benching headache related.

I suppose it comes down to how cameos and benching hauls affects us and our overall game and if we are able to take that on the chin, then duffy to chilwell does seem a good move.

I think it probably has enough upside to be worth it but with the plan to make some depth trimmings over the next few weeks to not be in this bench headache situation in the long term.

Yes I mean I read a post on here a while ago contesting how a benching headache is a bad thing

It’s a dilemma yes but it’s not a negative really, rather have a good bench than 3x fodder than don’t play

Like you say, if you can take it on the chin making the wrong selection call and having a few points on your bench then it’s fine isn’t it

Are you going to make the move? And who will you bench be?

for my team it would come down to picking one of Mbuemo, Hwang and Livramento this week to start and im really not sure probably Hwang I suppose.

Mbuemo, Livramento, brownhill in that order and start 4-3-3

what are you looking at ?

Yes same unless some more news on Raphinha

Makes me nervous having Mbeumo on the bench but that’s the risk we gotta take

I was just thinking about that...

Between Mbeumo and James for 1st bench slot. Was on James but it's close. I fear the James cameo.

I’ll make the move and worry about that after

Raph injury would make things easier haha

Thoughts here? 2FT and 2.1 ITB

Looks like Armstrong needs to go but with Broja out I might keep him one more week.

    2FT and 0.2 ITB.

    Sanchez
    TAA Rudiger Christensen*
    Salah Mbeumo* Raphinha* Greenwood
    Ronaldo Antonio Armstrong

    (Steele Livramento White* Gilmour)

    A) Greenwood to Foden
    B) A + Armstrong to Toney
    C) Something else

    Salah / Jota / Raphinha / Mbeumo
    Vardy / Antonio / Toney

    Steele // Livramento / White / Bissouma

Foden in for any of the midfield, or save (probably sell Raph for him after NOR)?

if you're confident Jota is worth owning and starting this week, then hold and sell Raph next week
if you don't want to check liverpool lineups each week then sell Jota now
