International Football

Which FPL players are on international duty ahead of Gameweek 12?

The third international break of 2021/22 gets underway in earnest on Thursday, with over 200 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players in action for their countries over the next week.

Most nations are only playing twice over the next week, having had to cram in a triple-header of matches over the last few international breaks.

It should also be less of an eventful fortnight than we’ve become accustomed to in these Covid-ridden times, with quarantining not the issue it once was for returning players and no World Cup qualifiers in South America taking place ridiculously close to the start of the next Gameweek – something that led to no-shows for the likes of Raphinha (£6.6m) last month.

The final games take place either late on Tuesday or in the early hours of Wednesday morning and will involve FPL assets from the Americas.

There is a guy with Aston Villa named Marvelous. An awesome name. I once met a Solomon Islander named Bobby Charlton 1966.

It most certainly is. His dad was obviously a big football fan. They absolutely love football in the Sollies.

Would you bin Vardy? Plays Chelsea this week but then a few good fixtures. He's taking up too money though

Yeah, binning him for Wilson to upgrade the team elsewhere. I've had enough of his antics already.

I'm binning him. Tielemans injury will affect Leicester attack. Plus there are 3 games in a week soon from GW13 onwards quite possible Vardy gets reduced mins or benched in one game with Nacho/Daka available.

Never thought about Tielemans injury effecting Leicester attack, but that's a good point. Makes me want to transfer Vardy out even more now.

Didn't even know Tielemans was injured, makes me feel a bit more sure about taking Vardy out then

Thinking of Wilson & Son in or Kane if I have no injury issues after the IB. Would definitely get him back when he is back in form

    Steele (Sanchez)
    Cancelo Rudiger Livramento (Semedo Llorente)
    Raphinha Salah Trossard Foden (Allan)
    Vardy Toney Antonio

Early days of course and providing no other issues, but can I justify this hit to bring in two premiums or should I hold off on one move?

    Semedo + Raphinha + Vardy > TAA + Cornet + Kane (-4)

    Thoughts:

    - TAA I don't really need to explain much. Liverpool often put 3 or 4 past Arsenal in spite of form so I figure it's the right time.
    - Raphinha to Cornet might seem crazy (not least to me as Raphinha's one of the few players I've had all season) but I've wanted Cornet for a few weeks and like Burnley's run for a fair few weeks. Raphinha will be back but I think Leeds are on a tougher run now and I'm waiting for players like Bamford to return, Raphinha can't keep being their lone saviour from an attacking point of view (and not like last week's goal wasn't a stroke of luck)
    - Vardy to Kane is a punt, but unlike others I don't love Leicester's fixture run after Chelsea and while I'm sure he'll return in that period, I don't want to hold him for that long. I figure if I'm going for a Spurs asset then now is the time to do it. If this doesn't work out then I wipe my hands of it and it's an easy move to Ronaldo for MU's good run

Consider getting Ronaldo instead of Kane now.
What are you hoping to see (or not see) from Kane over the next few before deciding to switch to Ronaldo?

      1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
        • 3 Years
        2 years, 5 months ago

Essentially returns. I did consider Ronaldo now especially with Watford next weekend, but I can see them coming unstuck against Chelsea, Arsenal and probably Palace the way they're playing so GW16 seems like the right time to move to Ronaldo, and (probably most importantly) there might be a chance OGS is gone by then. Kane has a much better run now that essentially ends at GW16 so that works out (although of course if he's in form by then I'd likely hold)

Yeah that's definitely one thing I don't love, I'd love to have both Gallagher and ESR as well but don't want to get rid of anyone else, although in the coming weeks I may downgrade Toney to a cheap playing forward and upgrade Allan to one of them as they both have good runs for a while

Id play ESR, because he's on fire and because Liverpool conceded three to both West Ham and Brentford. Vardy and Leicester are not on fire, and they play Chelsea one of the best defences around.

Odd appointment knowing he’ll jump ship as soon as Klopp goes. I hope Villa put in a £25M release clause.

Odd for Villa because he'll leave in a few years if he's good or odd for Gerrard because he won't get his dream job if he underperforms? I presume staying at rangers he still would have been next up for liverpool

I’m sure he’ll do decently, but this job is just a stepping stone for Gerrard and I think Villa should install a big buy out clause or they’ll just be in the same position in a couple years time.

I don’t think so. For him to replace Klopp, he’ll need to get Villa in and around the European places, so he’d be leaving the club in a pretty good state. And I’m sure Purlow understands all this as well as anyone and they’ll have chance to prepare as they start reaching that point

      1. CRAZY TRAIN
        • 12 Years

This. Added to which Purslow knows Gerrard from his Liverpool days. Villa will have done their homework on this move and it will be interesting to see who Gerrard brings with him (Rangers fans understandably concerned about the likes of Kent for example).

As a fan myself Martinez was my pick, but the appointment of Gerrard is anything but boring. Could be inspired or could be a disaster.

If it gets to that point (him being appointed at LFC), he’ll have a track record as a manager significantly beyond what either of them had before taking over at United and Chelsea respectively. Directly from Rangers, there would be bigger question marks - likely part of the reason Gerrard was attracted to the Villa role I expect

I'd ditch Mount for sure (seems to be far from nailed even when fit) but I'm not so sure about Jota unless Klopp indicates before the deadline that Firmino will miss at least maybe 2 or 3 games, a lot hopped to Jota last time he was out and it didn't go too well so if Firmino ends up looking like he might be back within a couple of weeks rotation might become a problem again very soon

    4. OleGGMU
      • 5 Years

Jota ia a trap, look at the under 7m mids imo , alot more to gain and less stress regarding rotation, missing 10 shots to get maybe a goal on the 11th etc....okay i know thw frustration is showing but yes ive had previously, burned and defo not boarding the jota bus, i think short and long term there is better value in the zaha, gallagher, tross, bowen, ESR, Cornet options

    5. Harvey_27

      2 years, 5 months ago

Really interesting mix of opinions here, thanks everyone. I'll obviously be waiting till the end of next week to make a move but you've given some real food for thought here. I've already got Hwang and ESR, so might need to consider Gallagher or even the seemingly injury-prone Cornet as alternatives to Jota, for all the reasons you've noted. Hmmm...

I’d hold Mount for a few games to see what he can do. He scored 24 points right before his wisdom teeth issue. Leicester and United game could see quite a few goals.

Id defo NOT take the risk, neither are doing anything at all different to antonio so why waste so much of cash to upgrade to someone who isnt scoring either, rarher stash the cash and monitor them or take a punt on wilson if you really want to ditch antonio otherwise. As for the belief that whu fixtures are shite, that is hilarious to say the least, city have been awful at hime and whu have been grrat at home so chelsea will concede against whu , thus there is no need to sack antonio

Yeah would make sense to keep Antonio regardless, but I'm pretty much chasing and can only get Kane/Vardy easily by ditching him. I believe those two can outscore him in GW13-17.

If I keep him, I will use money itb to get Jota instead

Hmmm, think I would go with Jota. Liverpool score comparatively more goals and looks like Vardy is on that blank streak in which nothing works for him. Might even get early sub during festive period.

Yeah although Kane /Vardy looks like a more solid pick, their respective team is looking dire offensively. Especially Vardy if Tielemans is out for long. Jota otoh is in a very good attacking team, that might swing it. If only he's nailed.

            Cheers man

Kane as he has a lovely run of fixtures and expect Conte to sort out some of the tactical issues within the team.
I would personally go for Son if that's an option for you, seeing that Jota is there as a MF option...But expect Jota to be more prominent when the African cup of Nations kicks off and Salah and Mane are not available.

Don't need that much money on GKs (esp Pickford)
2 of your defenders don't play (and Semedo literally can't play)
Midfield is not the worst, but don't really have any form players outside of Salah and ESR
The strikers aren't great either, but not are anyone's.

I'd want to make 8 or 9 changes to that, so WC for sure.

Rudiger to TAA would be a waste of a move...purely horizontal...

Ok I'm nearly set on my WC

    Ramsdale* Steele*
    TAA Chilwell James Cancelo Livra
    Salah Foden Raph ESR Gallagher
    Kane Hwang Broja*

I'm not set on the * players. Do I drop Ramsdale to guaitta and get foster to pair with him. Do I drop Broja to a 4.4 Attacker and get both Ramsdale and Guaitta?

Just the one keeper + Foster. Broja is good to have on bench. Would you consider Reguillon for one of the Chelsea lads? Could be a step ahead with that move early.

Which would you keep and drop out of this front 3?

    Vardy
    Antonio
    Toney

      Toney drop...
If you can get the cash to do Vardy->Kane i think it will be a good switch...Spurs have really good fixtures going forward...

      Interesting move for him.

Pretty much job for life at Rangers, European football guaranteed every year.

He has some good players at Villa, though, better than what he's used to at Rangers, so he should be fine.

Good appointment, earned a few stripes at Rangers. Will need a few games to steady the ship at Villa though

His transfer at rangers were hit and miss.
He took a good bit of time to turn things around despite the money spent and would have been sacked if covid hadn't stopped football.

Had a great season last year, did very well in Europe and had the team very well organised.
Dropped off a bit this year in the league & Europe but perhaps to be expected post last season.

Probably the right time for him to move with his stock high and celtic in with a good shout of overhauling rangers in the league.

'Hit and miss' you mean it took time to build a team capable of winning and the would of got sacked but for covid is sensationalist nonsense.

They went from being something like 4 points clear of celtic to 15 points behind over 3 months. Lost more games than they won and had an away europa league tie coming up where they had lost the 1st leg at home. If they were knocked out to a heavy defeat and lost to celtic away a week or so later he likely would have been gone.
Rangers fans at the time weren't happy with teh progress & if you check rangers forums out today that comment is common.

Like I said I think he left at the right time, his stock is high, not sure if he will be a success at villa tho. Different expectations

One trophy in 9 in a two horse race, even Callum Davidson at St Johnstone got 2.
It's going to be amusing to say the least at Villa.

If Manquillo starts he might get CS and attacking points under new manager. Steele more likely out of the two to keep a CS.

Why when Firminio is injured do we never seem to get a definitive answer on his expected length of absence? Kind of annoying.

Klopp described the injury as 'serious' but I watched the Brighton game and Firminio hardly hobbled off. In fact he seemed to walk off the pitch normally.

I wonder especially with the international break will he actually miss that many games? It may only be 1 or 2. Whilst we dont want to see players injured, his injury really needs to be long term for Jota to be a good option.

      1. @persecuted_by_mods
          2 years, 5 months ago

How can Klopp give an instant response timeframe? And you can definitely still walk if you have a bad hamstring injury

If next week Thursday or Friday klopp doesn't give a timeframe then you can be angry

Is Salah still the best captain choice for the next GW when Firmino is out? Liverpool seem to be much better when he plays.

Has been the case for past 2 weeks, most likely will be the case again I'd say. Picking the person who outscores him is the tricky part, Salah still returning at least

Yeah I’m contemplating going with Cancelo as city should keep a CS and he’s getting assists every game lately.

Gerrard to villa is interesting for me not only as a pool fan but also the impact he can make for villa in fpl.

I have followed his progress closely over the last 3 seasons and while his record breaking title winning season last season was impressive, his performance in Europe has been eye catching every season. He has regularly had rangers punching above their weight against stronger opposition and I think he will have a massive impact at villa.

His philosophy is heavily influenced by klopp and Benitez. He likes to play an attcking 4 3 3 approach ala klopp but has often found Benitez like success in Europe with a more compact 4 5 1 style ala Benitez.

I think he will steady the ship first at villa and make them hard to beat but slowly they will shift to a more aggressive style once he knows what the players can do and get some of his own signings in Jan.

I will watch villa closely as I think it's an opportunity to get a leg up in fpl. Watkins, bailey and cash could all become decent options under Gerrard.

                Dont buy dont sell

                Wait and see for me

I think yes. He is a good manager and manager bounces happen more often than not but Brighton are good defensively and he isn't through the door yet
