Captains

Who is the best captain for FPL Gameweek 12?

Deputy Editor Tom joined Scoutcast regular Joe earlier today to look at the best captaincy candidates for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) in Gameweek 12.

You can watch the video either embedded in this article below or on our YouTube channel.

A certain Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) once again looks like the leading armband option, as Liverpool host Arsenal on Saturday evening.

However, is there a case to be made for Tottenham Hotspur duo Son Heung-min (£10.3m) and Harry Kane (£12.2m), especially given the latter’s fine form for England during the international break?

In our video, we also discuss some of the less considered options, such as Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.4m) – who arguably has the most appealing fixture of the round, Michail Antonio (£8.2m), Phil Foden (£8.3m) and Joao Cancelo (£6.5m).

You can cast your vote on the widget of our home page, and be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel to get notified of future episodes.

Don’t forget to check back for our Captain Sensible article later in the week, which will delve into even more detail on the main runners and riders.

Depending do you want to move to Ronaldo after GW16. I'm actually in same situation, if I bring Son in, it will be very hard to swap for Ronaldo after gw16

If you really want Ronaldo at that point then it's just a 2-player transfer, right? Downgrade son to someone like Smith Rowe or Gallagher or whoever. Upgrade striker

3 fulls days between now and Wolves' game on Saturday afternoon. Shouldn't be a concern this time imo.

Nonsense. He is on the west coast of Canada. He can't leave there until tomorrow morning, local time, which is already late afternoon in England. He then has minimum 15 hours of travel back to Wolverhampton and can't arrive back until Thursday. Almost certainly has to miss training Thursday. Meaning he has one training session with the team before the Saturday game. It's very possible he'll be benched under those circumstances.

There are flights that leave Edmonton for London late at night on occasion, so it isn’t entirely out of the realm of possibility that he leaves right after the game.

Don't these guys fly in privae jets of sorts? Don't see why flight schedule should be an issue. Quite possible he flies back tonight itself and is back at Wolves for a late breakfast.

Yes, that what I was thinking, but it is 10+ hours from Edmonton, so he gets to England late Wednesday afternoon at the earliest I think.

Meanwhile - it was exactly as I said. Arrived back Thursday afternoon, trained for the first time today (Friday), Lage says "I cannot put anyone under risk for a game so now we’re going to take the best decision for tomorrow". 🙄

I expect him to be back in England Wednesday afternoon/evening, the best case scenario being that he has a flight back from here right after the game. 10+ hours from Edmonton to London.

    Salah Foden Raphinha Mbeumo
    Jimenez Antonio

    Foster Vardy Livramento Brownhill

    2 FT, 0.0 itb

    GW12 options:

    1. Vardy Brownhill >> Son + Davis (would be 3rd on bench)
    2. Vardy Brownhill >> Jota Wilson
    3. Vardy Foden >> Kane Gallagher

With 1. I could work in Jota in GW13 next week if required by doing Mbeumo Jimenez >> Jota Hwang (-4), or I could just do Mbeumo >> Gallagher

    Raul Jiménez Watch Update

The beach balls were flying in the stands at Estadio Iceteca as Canada defeats Mexico 2-1 to go top of the Hexagonal with six matches remaining! What a game! Mexico changed to a 4-3-3 to be more attacking at the start of the second half, but Canada didn’t sit back. Cyle Larin of Beşiktaş made it 2-0 five minutes after the restart off a terrific set piece tap-in to take control of the match, and really didn’t lay off until stoppage time. But what a stoppage time. Mexico made it 2-1 as the 90 minutes expired, and poured it on relentlessly for the 5 minutes of stoppage time. They almost equalized — ball saved off the line, but in the end Canada prevailed. Qatar, get ready for Les Rouges!

As for Jiménez, he was quiet for most of the game, only posing a problem at the end. He had 2 shots off target during the game, and created a few chances, but overall not great. He now has a long flight back to the UK to look forward to, 10+ hours. Assuming he leaves directly after the game, that puts him back in England late Wednesday afternoon/evening, giving him two days to prepare for West Ham. Will be an interesting battle of the CONCACAF strikers at Molineux on Saturday, given Antonio (who I also own) has similar travel back from Jamaica to contend with this evening. Safe travels to both, and may the FPL gods be kind to them this weekend!

Any advices for improvement in next GWs?

    Ramsdale Foster
    Chilwell James Cancelo TAA Livra
    Foden Salah ESR Mbeumo Normann
    Wilson Jimenez A. Armstrong

    0 FT, 5.5 ITB

    Options I consider are:
    A) Jimenez -> Kane
    B) get rid of mbeumo if blanks VS New for Gallagher
    C) Chilwell -> Reguilon (in next 2 GWs, afraid of rotation in festive period don't want to depend on two Chelsea's players)
    D) get Antonio after GW16

    Sounds as ___ plan:
    1. Good
    2. Bad

Good morning DZ. Need some input here please. 2FT 0.1itb

Ideally looking for a route to CR7 in gw14.

    Foster
    TAA Cancelo James Livra
    Salah Son Mount
    Antonio Vardy Toney
    Ramsdale Townsend Manq D. Luiz

    A) Mount to Jota now and roll.1ft. Then Vardy and Toney to CR7 and fodder gw14
    B) Vardy & Mount to Kane & Gallagher (already have Son)
    C) Vardy & D. Luiz to Wilson & Jota (leaves 0.5itb. Rid of Mount later, and strengthens bench. No CR7 plan)

    Good morning guys:
I have a mate who does very well at this game. A top 1k 2 top 10k's and only one score outside top 150k in 10 years.
He spends nowhere near the time I do at this game and i asked him a few things about transfer strategy.
The things that really made me think was he ignores form and fixtures to a large extent. Especially early doors; when he makes a transfer he always chases the money and goes in early. Having said that he then goes to fixtures and form. He has recently started looking at transfer activity in the top 10k so he won't chase the rises because of the masses. He tells me it costs 4 transfers a year maximum going early and he can ease off around Christmas when he has a sizeable kitty.
A lot of this is what we do anyway but the thing that struck me is he lets others make the transfer decisions for him by transfer movement in the game. He makes it clear that nobody knows what the future holds and he is happy to let market forces determine many of his decisions.

Who's the forward you're buying that has better long-term fixtures and outscored CR7 for points per match?

DCL, Antonio, Vardy or Jesus? Also, when and how will you get Ronaldo back for his GWs 14 to 27 fixture run?

Man U's problem is their defending phase, not their attack

We're about to get Tsimikas nailed for a bit again, right as Livra's fixtures turn, and then a smooth transition to Johnson

I wouldn't lock that spot down with Jota *for a hit* when lads like Gallagher, ESR and Gray (GW19+, not now) exist and allow upgrades elsewhere

But if Jota goes on that run of a goal per game and doesn't keep his 50%+ blank rate of two seasons so far, then I'd be very wrong about this

    A) TAA (ARS)

    B) Cancelo (EVE)

    1. Ze_Austin
      • 5 Years

Defensive stats predict an Everton mauling, and their attack isn't impressive atm either. So, Cancelo wins on opponents' defensive and attacking stats

But TAA has the advantage of being absolutely nailed

I'd probably get both for a hit. If forced to choose one, Cancelo first

Fwiw, City is ahead of Liverpool for defensive stats too, so CS chances are also higher for Cancelo based on own team stats

Cheers. You lost me a bit there with talisman theories and CR7 transitions tbh.

Got Raph, Foden and Vardy already. Would you get Kane this week or would you do just Firmino > Jiminez and save the other FT?

          Firmino to Jesus and roll

Interesting. Would make getting Kane toucher next week.

I really don't see what makes Kane a priority this season

It's a luxury transfer built on hype built on hope. His last Spurs hat trick was this season, in 31 minutes on the pitch, on 30th September, under Nuno

Just that it was against... Very low opposition 🙂

...and didn't translate to league form. This was for Spurs, not a completely different team with a different system and coach

    Ramsdale
    James Chilwell TAA Cancelo
    Salah Raph Son ESR Foden
    Antonio

    Foster, Livramento, Hwang, Scarlett.

Thinking of doing Scarlett > Armstrong -4 and playing bench boost.

    A. -4 and Bench Boost
    B. No hit, no bench boost

      Not worth the -4 imo

Probably right. Was feeling aggressive, but not needed

A hit for a bench boost sounds like DGW logic, but without double fixtures

I'd bench ESR for Livra here and have the XI looking good for this week, except Ramsdale

Hwang isn't pulling trees, nor is West Ham a whipping boy. He can be first or second sub, depending on how much you fancy ESR against Liverpool (I really don't)

      B. Start Livra

Feel bad benching ESR in this form and Liverpool have been conceding tbh. Will go right down to the wire.

I agree with Hwang. He was a bad transfer

          I'm benching Gallagher for Livra

There are fixtures for an attacking defender that just scream at me. You'd need ESR to do A LOT vs a very good side to match Livra vs the league's worst side

    Ramsdale
    TAA Cancelo James Chilwell
    Salah Foden Raphinha Mbeumo
    Jimenez Antonio

    Foster Vardy Livramento Brownhill

    2 FT, 0.0 itb

    GW12 options:

    1. Vardy Brownhill >> Son + Davis (would be 3rd on bench)
    2. Vardy Brownhill >> Jota Wilson (benching headache)
    3. Vardy Foden >> Kane Gallagher

With 1. I could work in Jota in GW13 next week if required by doing Mbeumo Jimenez >> Jota Hwang (-4), or I could just do Mbeumo >> Gallagher

    Thanks guys

Roll FT. Start Livra over Jim. Vardy second sub. Reassess with 2 FTs in GW13

    Who to Bench?
    A- Mbeumo
    B- Livramento
    C- Rudiger

Rudiger, but move to a Chelsea wingback soon. Mendy can't keep saving 'em every week when facing clinical finishers, but the wingbacks are the team's main goal threat

2FT, 0.3 itb. Already used WC. How to improve this team (with 2 or 3 transfers)?

    *Sanchez*
    TAA - Chilwell - Laporte - Livra
    (S)alah - Gallagher - Mbuemo
    Antonio - Ronaldo - *Auba*
Bench: *Steer* - *Gray* - *Christensen* - *Gilmour*

    Which transfers would you suggest?
    A) Auba to Wilson
    B) Steer to Steele (don't have playing GK this week)
    C) A + Gray to Jota
    D) A + Christensen to Cancelo/James
