FPL Gameweek 34 Scout Picks: City and Chelsea triple-ups as United are ignored

We have chosen our best Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players for Gameweek 34 ahead of Saturday’s deadline.

We line up in a 4-3-3 formation and are limited to £83.5m for our first XI.

Our four substitutes, meanwhile, are always picked from the budget/cheaper crop of players, not to serve as bench fodder but to give some alternative options who don’t cost as much as some of the names in our line-up.

GOALKEEPER

The best FPL goalkeepers for a Double Gameweek 26 Free Hit 7

Burnley have given us a mixed bag when it comes to Double Gameweek returns this season but they signed off on a high on Thursday, winning to nil against Southampton. Fabled or not, the ‘new manager bounce’ has seen the Clarets pick up four points from a possible six in the post-Dychean era and there was a spring in their step against the Saints. Sunday’s opponents Wolves will be without Daniel Podence (£5.5m), arguably their only form player in attack and a quiet creative force in 2021/22. They were abject without him in Gameweek 32, indeed, so Nick Pope (£5.4m) will fancy his chances of successive shut-outs on Sunday.

DEFENDERS

→ How many FPL points did Aymeric Laporte register across Manchester City's three Double Gameweeks?

After weeks of Fabian Schar (£4.4m)-types making an appearance at the rear, we’re back to a reassuringly premium feel in defence.

Struggling with the GK spot on WC. Which would you choose:

    A. Schmeichel - good fixtures, but not been many clean sheets recently and Europa League focus

    B. Guaita - in good form and some clean sheets against tough opponents. SGW in 36 though home to Watford so one less fixture overall compared to the other 2

    C. Ramsdale - hardly any clean sheets but good team and certainly capable

Schmeichel. Leicester improving, defenders come back from injury and have the doubles.

I quite like the cheap Dubravka and Foster combo:

      GW34: nor (D)
      GW35: BUR (F)
      GW36: cry + EVE (F)
      GW37: FH for me
      GW38: bur (D)

I went with C over A. Better team.

Might take B on my FH37 team though

Schmeichel yellow card v Everton. Response from FPL:

Data is provided by Opta and is marked as final 1 hour after the last match of any match day. At this time the bonus points are calculated and then updated in the game. On rare occasions, some information has not been added to the data in this time. Even if the data provider updates the data following this, the game will not be updated further.
It should also be noted that FPL players' points are not awarded retrospectively if a panel change the goalscorer or if the red/yellow card is rescinded at a later date.
Sorry we can't be of more assistance.

I know! I've known about this for a while. I think goals have sometimes been credited to other players at a later date, cards rescinded etc. but in this case they actually missed the fact a player got booked (well Opta did by the sound of it). Crazy.

I don't really see why they can't change things retrospectively, within a reasonable timeframe.

They didn't eff up themselves. It was Opta.

I saw people on Twitter moaning to a couple of betting companies about their Schmeichel YC bet not getting paid out. It wasn't an FPL problem.

Unfair? Yes, kinda - but can't pin the blame on FPL when they've already made clear when and how they totalise things.

Don't agree with this. It was a mistake – the fact people went along with the originators of that mistake does not mean the mistake was not a mistake, or that they are excused.

Imagine we used this logic in other things....

The betting companies I saw admitted the error and paid out. That's the difference with FPL, they're very locked in/stubborn. However you want to describe it. Fact is it's an example where the scoring wasn't correct and they won't/can't change it.

They're stubborn because they have a rule they stick to.

1 hour gone, if its not in, it's final. At least there is consistency?

Agree they should have better processes to account for issues like this & more real-time (ish) updates because they updates & league calculations take so long, and is partly why they have that self imposed limit right?

I think they should have the ability to correct/amend any errors, even after 1 hour. At least before a new game week begins. Until they can do that I think it's a flaw in the game and people have a right to feel aggrieved if something goes against them because of it.

What it means is that if Opta award a player a goal in error but then decide 61 minutes after the last game it was someone else's, FPL won't amend it. Crazy system.

Isn't the irony that this is exactly what VAR was brought in for (in a broader football sense of course)? Factual and material mistakes such as this.

In a search for simply setting the record straight.

I don't have a horse in the race so it doesn't matter to me but kind of crazy to lean on Opta for this. It was officially recorded by the ref that he received a yellow so it's very easy.

Son = cheaper, better near-term form
Kane = best set and forgot forward given the much lower choice pool for this slot and you need to play one

I love Son, but you have to play a forward and he's the most superior pick of the bunch.

You at least have Kulu for cheaper in midfield who does well, albeit slightly less.

Brentford & Leicester & Arsenal & Burnley & Norwich are all statistically weaker on the wing that Kulusevski plays, which I think is a argument I haven't seen very much.

Struggling on the final pieces of my wildcard jigsaw. Can anyone help a friend? I’m benchboosting too in game week 36. Playing 3-5-2:

    Schmeichel
    TAA Cancelo Laporte
    Salah Sterling Mount Saka ?
    Werner Nketiah

      For3 = Mateta? (5.3m)

No DGW in 36 but has one in 37. Otherwise, Joao Pedro? But it is Watford...

      Mid5 = Ramsey/Gordon(4.7/6m) or KDH (4.4m)

That leaves you 9.5m for example.

Ramsey could limit you to 9m, which essentially means Amartey + 4.5m (really, it's Davies or 4.3m players)

Whereas Gordon could allow you two 4.3m defenders. E.g. Tavares + Sessengon. Kiko will play twice, unlike most other options... Although a poor one.

Amartey will at least play one.

Or you downgrade Mateta to someone like Gelhardt who may get a few mins but not guaranteed, but will give you better defender options.

Really appreciate your thoughts Hazz!! Sessegnon is an interesting pick as I don’t think Reguillon has nailed down that position. Much appreciated mate.

Yeah, I've gone through the Spurs forums and they all would rather Sessengon play.

At the end of the day Conte picks the team. He doesn't seem to favour Regulion, but it's tricky as Sess is just back from injury and hasn't been naxk in the XI yet.

I'll probably go with Tavares at 4.3m myself (if my team stays the same), just because he's started the last two - Tomiyasu being back helps Arsneal & Tavares to go forwards, and he's had 2 shots on goal (if you can call that) in both of the last two matches.

Can't see how Xhaka LB is better. Just Martinelli LWB a danger, but again why would you.

    Schmeichel
    TAA Robertson Cancelo James
    Salah Havertz (C) Maddison Kulusevski
    Kane Mateta
// Foster / Nketiah Ramsey Doherty*

Haven't actually transfered in Nketiah yet, still have Cucho, but looking likely to do it tonight as I'm tight on BB36 plans.

Would you start Nketiah ahead of anyone in my XI? There's also a non-negligible chance Robertson gets resulted so could be a moot point.

Don't own Nketiah and I wish I had him. We are absolutely shocking defensively.

I'll bring Nketiah in regardless, as it scuppers my Doherty replacement next GW otherwise (price changes).

        May play, may bench. TBC.

Please rate my WC team. No BB. FH 37

    Schmeichel
    TAA, Cancelo, Laporte, James
    Salah (c) Mount, Saka, Sterling
    Werner, Pukki

    Matthews, Davies, Dewsbury Hall, Dobbin

Could also have same team but sterling and James to son and Alonso.

Please let me know what you think?

Like it. Similar to mine but your 11 is better while my bench is stronger. I’m yet to play BB so have to spread it a bit differently.

Cheers. Yeah I played my BB last week and dead ended my team.

I'm still debating whether to go son and Alonso over sterling and James.

    D: replace Rudiger for a -4 > 6.2

If you moved Rudiger to James or Alonso then absolutely worth -4 imo

Is it going to backfire removing Kane for Sterling this week?
I’m chasing rank and 45 points from 100k

Looking at Kane + Kulu/Maddison to Sterling + Werner for free.
Might even reverse it next week for 35 captaincy.

Feel the Brentford game could be tight and trying to maximise upside instead of playing safe.

Yes or no for these moves?

    1. WhatWouldYourZlatanSay

I did it, though I’m on a WC. Will also be getting Son or Kane in next week.

Will be no Spurs for one week, just hoping the Brentford game is tight whereas the City game could be anything. Allows me to get either Son or Kane next week
