West Ham v Arsenal team news: Nketiah starts, White out, Martinelli recalled

There’s one more Premier League match still to come on Sunday and it sees Arsenal attempt to regain their top-four spot at West Ham United.

Kick-off in east London is at 16:30 BST.

We were expecting plenty of alterations from David Moyes given that this match falls in the middle of a two-legged Europa League semi-final against Eintracht Frankfurt and while he has made five changes from Thursday, the rotation wasn’t as widespread as perhaps we initially thought.

Lukasz Fabianski returns in goal in place of Alphonse Areola as expected, while Vladimir Coufal, Ryan Fredericks, Mark Noble and Said Benrahma start instead of Ben Johnson, the suspended Craig Dawson, Tomas Soucek and Michail Antonio.

Kurt Zouma, who made a shock early return from injury in midweek, starts his second match in less than 72 hours at the heart of the Hammers’ defence.

West Ham aren’t the only team dealing with upheaval at centre-half.

Arsenal are missing the influential Ben White today, with the stopper not risked because of a tight hamstring.

Cedric Soares and Emile Smith Rowe also drop out, as Takehiro Tomiyasu, Rob Holding and Gabriel Martinelli come in for the Gunners.

Eddie Nketiah gets the nod up front for the fourth match in a row, meanwhile.

He's a quality player and has been excellent, but unfortunately he's more of an assist-the-assister type

Can see why, a good attacking asset for us. Just looking had two dgw so very tempting. Just looking at total points didn’t realise just how many he has accumulated.

Next season might be interesting for him, to be an FPL assent he must be a nailed player, also I think it depends on his price I think if he started every game and was around 6M that would be good, I think if he plays every game next season he will score 10-15 goals

So your saying a nailed on £6m striker for a generally attacking team competeting for top 4 would b a good option?

7 or 8 million would be a fairer price if he was nailed but he is currently only 5.5M that is the reason why I said around 6 million.

Looks ok but very deep, deeper even than Laca was and has given it away unnecessarily a few times often in dangerous positions due to his deep-lying position.

Not 100% convinced for FPL yet (although I have to replace Cucho so watching closely too).

I defy anyone to watch Arsenal and not focus on Tavares - utterly uncoachable, and regular periods of the game where multiple players on his team are pointing where he should be, often about 20 yards away. Beyond frustrating.

He is horrendous. I know he's young and has a bit to learn but he's a complete headless chicken and seems to put no thought into anything he does. Once I saw he was going to play regularly after Tierney's injury I knew it was time to bail from Arsenal defence

Tavares is the worst full back I have seen in a long long time. Nearly all chances arsenal have conceded since Tierney got injured have come from his flank

Arteta has to drop him and play tomiyasu there with Cedric right back

    1. Hazz
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member
      • 6 Years
      2 years, 5 days ago

Tomiyasu has never played LB. Risky to place a player who is literally just back from injury in an unnatural position.

They need to keep Cedric on the bench for when Tomi needs to be subbed etc.

Yes Tavares can't defend, but offers more fling forward than Cedric does & you set up the team to cover that.

Plus, Bowen/Coufal cause problems against any team down that wing.

    2. Nate(U)dog(ie)
      • 3 Years
      2 years, 5 days ago

I respect Arteta wants to back his players, especially younger ones that can have difficult periods, but he's risking throwing away 4th by playing him at the most crucial point of the season. Spurs shouldn't even be near Arsenal right now

    3. Deulofail

Saka LB with ESR and Martinelli both starting could be an option, but doesn't leave much on the bench

Yeah and Saka is your best forward. Waste chucking him at LB. They've just got to live with it...

He is, but he can still join the attack, and ESR is more wasted on the bench. He is class as well.

Would it be crazy to sell Robertson for TAA? Thinking Robertson will be rested in one of the double games and TAA will play both games with just being rested. Any thoughts appreciated.

I was looking to do the opposite recently! See if he plays v Villareal, if he does then I would expect Robbo to be benched v Villa but I'm not sure I'd use a transfer on it, he's the one in form

Robertson certainly the one in form but I can feel a TAA hail very soon and if he plays 2 games in double game week and Robertson only 1, it’ll probably be worth it.

Just feel I’ve taken advantage of Robertson outperforming TAA and now I can take advantage of TAA outperforming Robertson.

If you were going to do this, then it would need to be VVD in, in which case you lose that attacking threat - I would just hold and make peace that it may just be 1 game for Robbo.

I’ve thought about getting Matip for White as he’s cheap and Matip should also play both games in double game week. Just think TAA is due a haul.

I don't think entertaining selling Salah is a completely crazy idea. He's really only worth his price as a captain IMO, and I only plan on captaining him in GW36 for the remaining 3 GW's. I'm not sure that KDB and VVD are enough of an upgrade to warrant the risk, however, in my opinion.
