FPL Gameweek 6 team news: Rodrigo ruled out for 3-4 weeks

There were just two Gameweek 6 press conferences held on Thursday daytime but one of them brought us news on the fitness of the highest-scoring Fantasy Premier League (FPL) midfielder of 2022/23: Rodrigo Moreno (£6.5m).

The managers of Leeds United and Nottingham Forest are the only Premier League bosses to face the media so far, with 16 more top-flight head coaches set to speak on Friday.

Erik ten Hag and Brendan Rodgers will fulfil their Gameweek 6 duties after tonight’s clash between Leicester City and Manchester United, with some quotes likely to be embargoed for a day or two.

LEEDS UNITED

Rodrigo will be out until after the international break with the shoulder injury he sustained in Tuesday’s draw with Everton at Elland Road.

“When it pops out, it’s about as good a case scenario as possible. That means that it doesn’t need surgery and hopefully, in 3-4 weeks, it can calm down. Maybe it takes a little bit longer, maybe it’s a little bit shorter, we will see. He feels good, he feels confident that he will be ready fairly soon, so we’re kind of targeting after the international break.” – Jesse Marsch

Stuart Dallas (leg) remains out, while Luke Ayling (knee), Junior Firpo (knee) and Liam Cooper (calf) are in training and Patrick Bamford could be in line for a start in Rodrigo’s stead.

“First, I think yes that he can [start]. We’ll have to make a decision. We could start with both Joffy [Gelhardt] and Patrick, it’s something we’re speaking about as well.” – Jesse Marsch on Patrick Bamford

“Everyone else is in training except for Stuart Dallas. Junior Firpo, Luke Ayling, Liam Cooper, Patrick Bamford, all back. Some decisions on exactly which guys are ready to go for the weekend but they’re all in training looking healthy.

“I’d say Liam Cooper is probably the closest to being ready to start, and the others [Ayling/Firpo] I think we’ll more be considering, ‘would we have them on the bench or not?'” – Jesse Marsch

NOTTINGHAM FOREST

The Forest team news was an altogether quieter affair, with boss Steve Cooper reporting no fresh concerns from the 6-0 defeat at Manchester City last night.

“No, nothing in terms of injury. Players are reporting a little bit later so I haven’t seen them but I know there are no obvious injuries from last night. A tough week physically, was always going to be the case in terms of three games in a week and only two days between each game. But that’s fine, we’ll always deal with it as it comes.” – Steve Cooper

Orel Mangala (hamstring), Omar Richards (leg) and Moussa Niakhate (muscle) remain out.

Haaland Foden

Would you swap Toney for Mitrovic if it freed up enough cash to do Patterson to Fofana next week to shore up my defense and bench? If mitro rises and Toney falls then il just have to run with Patterson over fofana. Team is

    Sanchez (Ward)
    Taa James Saliba (Neco PATTERSON)
    Salah Sterling Martinelli Gross (Andreas)
    Haaland Jesus TONEY

Very happy with the rest of my team and wouldn't want to downgrade anyone else for the required 0.4. my defense isn't as heavy as everyone else's So shoring it up with a Fofana could be fruitful

      1. Valar(Keith)

True. The price drops and rises are driving me mad. I'm always a week behind a perfect setup. Anyway, this is fpl.. there's no such thing as perfect. I think Saliba to Fofana around gw9 and Patterson to a Botman/Dalot with the freed up cash could be the better move.

    2. Valar(Keith)
      • 14 Years
      1 year, 8 months ago

Alternative is just keep Toney for the foreseeable(his fixtures are grand.. and i like him as a player) and get Fofana in for Saliba when Arsenal's bad run starts around gw9.. neco can be able cover on the bench for a long while considering his fixtures too. And a Saliba downgrade would let me upgrade Patterson to a Dalot etc in the future.

I'd keep Toney, a toenail away from a goal against Fulham and he'd be on the same amount of points as Mitro. He's been playing well, has been close to some big scores, and has hauls in him.

          • 14 Years

Yup. I love the guy. In an ideal world id just hold him long term. with my team setup with sterling, Salah and haaland though i have to make use of every 0.1 i can get though. Thats the only reason I'm considering the switch.

Chelsea defending is shambolic though. I think we are all getting carried away when we see 4.4 next to Fofana. The truth is Chelsea has major issues in the middle and at the back.

          1. Valar(Keith)
            • 14 Years

They will improve though. I'd probably only start Fofana around gw9 in place of Saliba. So by then hopefully things are back to normal at Chelsea. That being said the smart move could just be Saliba to Fofana gw9 though since i would not play Saliba in gw9, 10, 12 anyway so maybe this Fofana move can wait until then.

That's the thing.. ideally i would.. but when mitro touches 6.8 and Toney falls to 7.1 il just free up 0.2 from that move. That won't be enough. Hence why the conundrum.

Why not James? Chelsea have some plum fixtures hence why I also went with Sterling. I get that they're defense has been shambles, hopefully they'll figure it out by then or at least James goes back to RWB

        1. Catastrophe
          • 13 Years
          1 year, 8 months ago

because their defence is a shambles 🙂 obviously if that situation improves he is a great option. But I'd prefer the stability of some of the other cheaper options where clean-sheets are a possibility too - even Trippier could be argued as an alternative cheaper option with attacking returns. He's also injury-prone, as we know. He could still be a good option of course, hence "not sure".

      Get madders out of there.
I also wonder if there is a need for an expensive bench option right now too.
Andreas is brilliant & Neco is brilliant for 4mil(ish). If you can get that money into your first XI it may well get you through to WC

Agreed, I just don't know where that money can be put to good use. Maybe Madders > fodder and have Salah/KdB/Son for Sterling

I find it so funny that Salah captainers from last night are gonna do it again this week.

Eventually they will be right and Haaland will be rested, but meanwhile, they'll have eaten like 3 hat-tricks and 2 braces from 65 min appearances every game for Haaland until like GW12.

Haaland is absolutely on fire. He's the main striker for the best team in the league with great fixtures. Just ride the wave. Don't be afraid to switch. The more you captain Salah the deeper you dig imo. Salah has not looked nearly as good, was extremely lucky to get 2 assists last night, and Liverpool as a team are not looking as sharp.

Don't be afraid of rotation! Go with the bookies and captain the player most likely to score. It's like a game of chicken with the Salah captainers and they refuse to swerve until Haaland gets rested which literally might not come for a long time.

Nah. I said eventually they will get it right but until then whenever then is... they're leaking EV by not capping Haaland. If you knew that Haaland started every game until GW12 would you not captain him every game?

And what if the eventually is this weekend? Of course we would captain Haaland if we knew he was going to start but we don't know that. Surely trying to predict lineups and rotation is a part of FPL. If I think Haaland is benched this weekend why would I captain him?

But you don't know. And if you don't know, why would you think pessimistically? Go for the upside because just one extra return will make up for a benching and you will be up on the trade. The upside over Salah is considerable imo and I don't think too many people would argue against that.

And the upside of captaining Salah isn't considerable if Haaland is benched? It's a guessing game.

            2. DelPiero10
                1 year, 8 months ago

I'd argue that not having him as (c) in the one week thus far where a benching seems most likely, and potentially wiping the floor with his massive EO is the upside move, and the alternative doesn't necessarily need to be Salah either.

This. If everyone is on now on Haaland permacap and I'm able to correctly predict a benching and get a haul from someone else it will be a big gain. Will be Salah with the team I have but Kane and KDB look like great alternatives as well.

Good luck to you if you think you can predict the benching.

I don't have as much confidence to be able to do that so I prefer to go for the player with the highest chance to return.

Definitely what I was thinking too. But, people don’t like to hear they were/are wrong 😉

As soon as I saw Haaland brought off before 90, added to the fact Alvarez played 90, he’s definitely starting next game for sure

Agree. Haaland is pretty much permanent captain for me. Starting to look like it doesn't matter who City plays and even if Haaland only plays 45 mins, he's still a safer option. I'd still expect him to score if he was benched and brought on at 60 or even 70 at this rate.

I think we have enough info to count on Haaland being benched this weekend, but otherwise I do agree. I just can't see myself capping Salah at the moment with the way he's performing so sold him for KDB

This is exactly what I think. We have no idea when he gets benched. 0 clue. So while we don't know, we should ride the wave. And I think Salah captainers can find themselves stuck in a loop where every single week the threat of rotation for Haaland scares them off and they lose massive points over a few weeks 'waiting for the benching'

We never beat Brighton, sadly. 2nd half against Everton was a little better. I think the issue is that we might do better (going forward) against teams that actually try to attack so the game gets stretched end-to-end. If teams just sit deep & crowd out the front 4, then the lack of creativity in CM becomes a problem. Roca is kind of tasked with a more playmaker-type role than Adams but his passing isn't really that great.
