FPL Double Gameweek 22 live team news: Rodrigo, James, Sterling + more

Double Gameweek 22 is just around the corner and the pre-match press conferences have started taking place on Thursday.

As usual, we’ll be bringing you all the key quotes that you need for your Fantasy Premier League (FPL) teams over the coming 24 hours.

Four Premier League bosses took questions today, with the 16 other managers (or their deputies, in Antonio Conte’s case) hopefully set to face reporters on Friday.

One of those head coaches will be Jesse Marsch, whose Leeds United side put out an injury update on Thursday afternoon to confirm that Rodrigo Moreno (£6.4m) would be out for two months with an ankle injury.

KEY UPDATES FROM THURSDAY

THURSDAY’S PRESS CONFERENCE TIMES

CHELSEA

Denis Zakaria (thigh), Armando Broja (ACL), Christian Pulisic (knee), Edouard Mendy (finger), N’Golo Kante (hamstring), Joao Felix (suspended) and Wesley Fofana (knee) remain out but Reece James (knee), Raheem Sterling (hamstring) and Ben Chilwell (hamstring) are back in the Chelsea squad for the visit of Fulham.

“So we’ve got Ben Chilwell, Reece James, Raheem and Ruben [Loftus-Cheek] back in the squad, not 90 minutes, but certainly in the squad.

“Wesley has been training partly with the team, he’ll be stepping that up nect werk,.

“We’re still without Denis, Pulisic, Kovacic, Kante and Broja.” – Graham Potter

Hakim Ziyech is available for selection after his deadline-day move to Paris Saint-Germain fell through.

FULHAM

Marco Silva reported nothing new on the team news front, so it’s only Neeskens Kebano (Achilles) on the sidelines as far as we’re aware.

Aleksandar Mitrovic recovered from a foot injury to make the matchday squad in the FA Cup last weekend.

New signings Cedric Soares and Sasa Lukic are technically available for selection but the latter only arrives tonight and a late decision will be taken on his involvement against Chelsea.

LEICESTER CITY

Jamie Vardy could make a swifter-than-anticipated return from a glute injury this weekend, having originally been ruled out for a fortnight ahead of last weekend’s FA Cup tie against Walsall.

New signing Harry Souttar (hip) is a doubt, however.

“The team’s looking well, they have trained well. We obviously have one or two to look at tomorrow after training to see on availability.

“Jamie hasn’t done so much over this last period of time but he’s out on the field, so we’ll see what his reaction is like to that.”

“We just have to see on [Souttar]. He had a little bit of a hip issue coming in. He’s trained with the squad today, but he’s one of the players I need to assess. If it wasn’t for this weekend, he’d certainly be ready to go for the following weekend.” – Brendan Rodgers

Jonny Evans (calf), Boubakary Soumaré (hamstring) and Ricardo Pereira (Achilles) are progressing well with their recoveries but Wilfred Ndidi won’t feature because of a personal issue.

James Justin (Achilles) and Sammy Braybrooke (knee) are out long term.

“The likes of Bouba Soumaré and Jonny Evans will train next week. Ricardo Pereira is doing very well. He’ll play in a [youth] game next week. He’s looked great over these last few weeks and it’s just about stepping that up.

“Apart from that it’ll be pretty much the same.” – Brendan Rodgers

EVERTON

Sean Dyche gave his first press conference as Everton manager on Thursday, providing a brief update on injured players Ben Godfrey (knee), Michael Keane (knee) and James Garner (back).

“Ben Godfrey is closer, Michael Keane is getting fitter and has trained. Garns is going to be a little bit yet.” – Sean Dyche

Andros Townsend has also been back in training after 10 months out with a knee issue.

There was no word on Nathan Patterson (knee) but he will have another fortnight on the sidelines if the original six-week timeframe for his recovery was accurate.

After dgw23, man city will have another double right ??

Thoughts for Rashford TC this gw or waiting for better Haaland dgw

I'm going for Rashford TC. Everything points to it being a smart play: the player's form, the team's form, and the excellent fixtures.

Yeah most likely 2 more. Will blank in 28 if they beat Bristol City and/or West Ham beat Man Utd, then again in 32 if they win the following round in FA Cup. This would create DGWs in 2 of 29/34/37.

You might find this useful for planning:

I'm on wildcard...please suggest the changes:
    Kepa /Ward
    Shaw, Ake, Trippier, Estupinan, White
Rashford, Odegaard, Martinelli, Rodrigo, Bruno Fernandes
    Haaland, Kane, Mitrovic.
0.5 m left in the bank.

Nketiah for Mitro to capture DGW.
Would require MF switch too. Maybe Mahrez for Martinelli?

Looks solid. Im not sure you need to do either of my suggestions

He may return to the club but I can't see him being involved in first-team action this season. He likely returns to the fold next season.

You'd hope not but his contract runs until 2025. I suspect they will send him out on loan. Saudi Arabia might be a good shout, keep him in line with the punishments over there...

Bamford just came back from injury and Rutter is a new signing. He could very well play up front in the double.

Bamford played 77 mins in the last game. I expect him to get 60-70 mins then Rutter come on as a sub.

Just having a little think about doing the hokey-cokey between KDB and Bruno for this and next week, unsure if I'll go back to KDB afterwards given his form of late as well as Pep suggesting he's now in the same boat as everyone else in terms of rotation. Even just looking at the Villa game alone I think I'm decided on not getting him back. Villa have been great away from home under Emery, winning all 3 games (Brighton, Spurs, Soton) and only conceding once with a combined 1.9xGc across the 3 games, plus they've generally been a tricky team for City recently

    1. TheTinman
      • 8 Years
      1 year, 4 months ago

You're probably going to want KDB out in GW28 anyway. So I don't advocate the hokey cokey

    2. Hazz
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member
      • 6 Years

The only issue is that Man City fixtures in 24 (NFO) & 25 (BOU) are excellent - and you're probably going to be selling Bruno for GW25 anyway (for some, that's another - 4) so why not get back on the City train.

Mahrez mins may be an issue with UCL rolling round & KDB form has been meh.

      It's tricky

      1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
        • 3 Years
        1 year, 4 months ago

Hmmm I forgot about this (haven't looked at FPL stuff much since the last game), good points all round. I was hoping Dias would have had a start by now so that I could hope he'd be fairly reliable but he still has barely played and I'm not too keen on bringing in a defender if the backline is still changing so much

    3. Black Knights
      • 12 Years
      1 year, 4 months ago

Easy KdB > Bruno, then Bruno > Mahrez for me. Use the spare cash to improve Andreas in case Mahrez benchings start kicking in, or just upgrade Mahrez after his double.

      1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
        • 3 Years
        1 year, 4 months ago

Will have to think on Mahrez, forgot CL is coming up. I got rid of Pereira for Mitoma a while back and tbh like most I'm actually fine for cash for now

Big fan of KDB generally but he's slipped right off the watchlist for me now. If he's relying solely on assists he has to be super nailed & hoovering up those BAPS. Hasn't got a single bonus point since GW15

      1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
        • 3 Years
        1 year, 4 months ago

I have plenty of alternatives to him I'm happy to punt on but in terms of a double and the good fixtures after I'm just not sure which way to go. You always just feel like City are going to click again at some point and want to be on it but it's difficult

Wouldn't say zero. He's a good cheap 8th forward with a double and at the very least an extra 2 points in 25.

          • 3 Years

There are a tonne of forwards ahead of him for that 3rd spot

He has poor underlying stats and leeds have two tough fixture in the double and arent playing great overall

People will be wasting 2FTs on him. In and out later

On top of that this year with so many good cheap options everywhere its a waste to go to Gnoto

Plan to get KDB back and buy Ake week 23 with the 2FTS for Shaw and Bruno

    Kepa
    Schar Tripier Shaw White
    KDB Martinelli Saka Rashford (c)

There is a psychological bonus to this I suppose

Only downside to this is sometimes the players you would want to captain also have nothing to play for. Looking less likely this season mind

Would yo do Martinelli to Saka for free? Might be the bigger differential and have some ground to make up.

    The team :

    1ft / 2.9 ITB

    Ward, Kepa
    Gabriel, Trippier, Bueno, Shaw, Schar
    Martinelli, Bruno, KdB, Odegaard, Rashford
    Mitro, Haaland, Greenwood

I might just roll this week...the FT may be handy over the next few weeks

    A) Miggy -> Casamerio
    B) Miggy -> Bruno, Kane -> Eddie -4

    Playing TC on Rashford

I’d love some advice! What do you think of these moves:

    GW 22: Kane + Martinelli —> Nketiah + Bruno

    GW 23: Bruno —> Mahrez

    Current team:

    Kepa
    Trippier, Gabriel, Shaw
    KDB, Martinelli, Odegaard, Rashford
    Haaland, Kane, Mitro

    Ward. Andreas, Castagne, Bueno

    Any other ideas appreciated!

Like it short term but not sure I'd drop Kane

Would look to bring Kane back in after a few games

    Would you change anything here?
    Already used FT (3m itb)

    DDG
    Trippier Shaw White
    Rashford(c) KDB Almiron Martinelli
    Haaland Kane Nketiah
    (Ward Andreas Stones Bueno)

Want to bring in Odegaard but do I wait to avoid -4 (would need to transfer out Marti) ?

Ode isn’t worth a hit for Marti so I would stick. No Bruno is only concern but I think I would stick

Yep I'd have to lose DDG to get Bruno and would result in -8 so not worth it. Especially with the blank coming up meaning I'd probably transfer Bruno back out.

Likely will do Marti to Ode next week

So most will be captaining Rashford this GW, clearly.

Is there much upside in TC Rashford? I’m not convinced.

Every time there’s a good TC shout, there will always be a consensus

I.e. Haaland next week will also be the majority

My point is, I’d rather use to chip to a player where majority doesn’t captain him.

Not tempted by Bruno? I've got the armband on him at the moment

I understand and my point is sometimes there is a majority for a reason. I like chasing upside but if you ignore a player with form, fixtures and a DGW that can be a season killer

What should I do with my 2xFT??

    Kepa
    Akanji, Trip, White, Shaw
    KDB, Saka, Martinelli, Rashford
    Kane, Haaland

    Ward, Mitro, Bueno, Andreas

    1) KDB > Bruno and roll one FT
    2) KDB > Bruno and Martinelli > Mahrez (so that I can do Mitro > Nketiah for GW23)
    3) KDB > Bruno and Andreas > Mitoma (benching heacache, and might leave me taking hits in GW23)

1 feels sensible, but I love to tinker! Thoughts?
