Eliteserien Fantasy 2024 guide: Odds, fixtures, chips + more

Welcome to Eliteserien Fantasy 2024! It’s brilliant to see so many newcomers to the game, so I thought I’d try to put together a beginner’s guide of sorts to help get you oriented. Just bear in mind that I am very much included in the ‘beginner’ bracket myself…

I won’t spend much time covering the game format here as it should be immediately familiar to FPL players, with just a few twists on the chips:

  • ‘Attack! Attack!’ – double points for all your forwards
  • ‘Rich Uncle’ – a free hit chip with unlimited budget for that Gameweek
  • The self-explanatory ‘Two Captains’

The main aim of this article is to provide a basic orientation with Eliteserien’s top (and bottom) clubs and an overview of the initial schedule, which features early blanks and doubles.

BOOKIES’ ODDS TO WIN TITLE

So, first up, let’s have a look at the odds of winning the title this season, to give a rough idea of the expected hierarchy:

  1. Bodø/Glimt 2.15
  2. Molde 4.00
  3. Brann 4.50
  4. Viking 15
  5. Rosenborg 21
  6. Lillestrøm 25
  7. Sarpsborg 30
  8. Tromsø 100
  9. Odd 150
  10. Strømsgodset 150
  11. Haugesund 300
  12. HamKam 300
  13. Fredrikstad 300
  14. Sandefjord 300
  15. Kristiansund 500
  16. KFUM Oslo 750

Bodø/Glimt and Molde, fresh off their European adventures during the offseason for Norway, occupy the top two spots. A Bodø/Glimt victory would secure their fourth title in the last five seasons, while Molde won in 2022 & 2019.

Brann have had a much more turbulent recent history: third in 2018, relegated to the First Division in 2021, promoted in 2022 and second on their return to the Eliteserien last year.

Of the three promoted sides, minnows KFUM Oslo are making their first-ever appearance in the Eliteserien and this is clearly reflected by the bookies’ odds. Kristiansund return after just one season in the First Division, while Fredrikstad are fancied to be a slight cut above at joint 11th.

FIXTURE DIFFICULTY

Next, let’s have a look at a fixture ticker for the first eight Gameweeks (source: https://www.viewfantasystats.com/eliteserien/fdr-planner/)

Eliteserien Fantasy 2024

The predicted top three – Bodø, Molde and Brann – also sit atop the fixture ticker for the opening eight Gameweeks.

A Double Gameweek 3 for Brann and Molde, aligned with appealing fixtures before and after, makes these two clubs an excellent place to begin your draft. If your initial strategy is to attack the Double Gameweek, you might also want to consider supplementing Brann & Molde double/triple-ups with the mid-priced options from Odd and HamKam.

EARLY CHIP?

The early Double Gameweek also presents an opportunity to deploy one of your chips. Since Molde and Brann players are quite expensive, Rich Uncle could be an option to enable a frontline that includes last season’s top scorer Bård Finne (BRA, 11.5m) and Molde talisman Fredrik Gulbrandsen (11m).

Alternatively, ‘Rich Uncle’ could be held for Double Gameweek 10, which includes Bodø, Brann, Rosenborg and Tromsø.

‘Attack! Attack!’ is another option for Double Gameweek 3, as the current template frontline appears to be Finne, Gulbrandsen and Kirkevold (HAM, 6m). Odd forward Børven (7.5m) looks a promising alternative to Kirkevold if you want to triple up on doublers. Viking’s Salvesen (8.5m) has been banging in preseason, although tough fixtures Bodø and Brann in GWs 2 & 3 may be slightly off-putting.

ATTACK V DEFENCE

As always, when using a fixture ticker with just one colour per game, it’s worth considering where defensive difficulty and attacking difficulty are flattened.

To help identify the teams which might be, for example, a good fixture for your attackers but a bad fixture for your defenders, I’ve also put together a colour-coded chart of goals and goals conceded last season:

Eliteserien Fantasy 2024

The left-hand column presents the team in order of goals conceded to highlight fixture difficulty for attackers, while the right-hand column orders teams by goals scored as a metric for defensive fixture difficulty.

It’s worth noting that Viking and Sarpsborg 08 look like quite appealing fixtures for your attackers but much less so for your defenders. At the opposite extreme, Haugesund and Strømsgodset appear to be pretty solid defences but struggle in attack.

WHERE TO FIND STATS

As for the players, I’m far from the level of familiarity required to write a comprehensive watchlist. However, the official Fantasy site does allow you to sort by goals, assists, clean sheets, bonus points etc, which can be supplemented by further data from sites like Transfermarkt and Whoscored.

I’ve also come across a massively helpful pre-season minutes tracker here (it also notes goals and assists).

COMMUNITY MINI-LEAGUES

That’s pretty much it from me.

I’ll just conclude with a couple of mini-leagues to join (thanks to Mullered in Maenam and Mince N Tatties for running these):

See you below the line!

Just translated the bit about staying away from Molde if they roll like last year!!!

Perhaps I should have held on for Eikrem - my super in-depth research didn't cover the minutes the other mids had.

Just logged in to see Hansen pen save, get in ya beauty ! Also Gulb replacement Lehne Olsen goal and assist.

Just need Finne Capt and the two other Brann boys to deliver and it’s been a good week.

Much more fun than my abysmal FPL 2024 season !

Took an effective -14 or so to lose Tewelde so I claim the most shameful move of the week. Don't think advising you to keep Berget counts here as I always had FPL Bielsa in mind when I said that.

Tewelde G, Mai Traoré A & Christiansen CS my only returns. Benched Logi Tómasson's 15pts as I didn't expect a CS v Rosenborg. Shameful league position but close still and I'm actually pretty happy with my squad. Just need some Molde for next week. (Did Stenevik & Gulbrandsen - Hope & Finne this week)

So what’s the view on 2 Captains this week. I’m getting Eriksen in and have Finne but think I’ll wait for a better week to use that chip

I'm holding my chips too. Doesn't feel like any attack has entirely clicked yet (except maybe Lillestrøm) & the Brann Viking game looks tough to call. Molde's double is great but with Wolff Eikrem & Breivik just returning, they have so many options that I'm not 100% confident nailing the right, rotation-proof picks yet.

Made a hash of my initial Molde picks (Gulbrandsen & Stenevik) so starting from scratch. Definitely getting Eriksen, probably Øyvann, maybe Løvik/Hestad

Not sure it's worth a hit to get Molde in. I've already got Solt, Linnes and Baccay doubling in defence. Not benching Tripic, Salveson or L Olsen. I'm selling Nypan for Eriksen which could backfire. As you say rotation is likely anyway and a single game player could easily beat a Molde.

Actually I don't mind taking hits for Molde players this GW at all. As long as you can avoid rotation, the ceiling for attackers looks great with these fixtures, and I'm starting to think double Molde defence may be the way to go longer term - especially if Øyvann keeps up his BPS, pairing him with a WB looks quite appealing to me

My FT will be JP Hauge - Eriksen which leaves a lot of cash for upgrades in defence. Don't want to sell Tomasson (or Soltvedt obv) but don't mind moving Dahl Reitan on

Probable wrong think of course but I'm seeing Two Captains as an opportunity to captain a defender.

Looking here at Linnes as VC with what looks to be a decent chance of two cleanies. Not sure what the odds are of attacking returns from him. Did try the Youtube highlights but got stuck with lack of names of jerseys! History suggests it's a chance anyway.

Though thinking it over - slightly - the wisdom of this may depend on baps.

Haven't really looked into this as yet. Is it the case that clean sheet defenders have an outsize chance of baps as in FPL? If not, then I guess the odds may favour double captaining attackers with a good chance of returning.

Could work... certainly Molde defence has made a very strong early impression. My only doubt here would be that Odd's attacking metrics are good too so far - way out in front for big chances on fotmob (Odd 11, KFUM 7, KBK & LSK 6) & joint 2nd for xG.

I'll try put the CS odds up today

Wonder if Odd's metrics aren't inflated because of Haugesund and Sarpsborg.

Conceding loads of chances seems to be their party piece. Certainly Odd didn't over perform the other teams to have this oppo.

    Considering Tripic to Eikrem.

But although Eikrem’s ceiling is higher, I’m considering Kornvig to Eriksen instead as Eriksen’s game tilegne seems more assured and I really want to keep Tripic.

I see faith in Vikings diminishing but I'm definitely holding on to Tripic. The B/G game looked all Viking from the highlights & his storming performance v S08 was unlucky not to haul.

Saw the whole Molde game & I think Eikrem's xG was bloated from one point blank rebound that he somehow missed. Could be wrong here as I haven't seen much of him but think I prefer Eriksen (K)

I like that move for this week but I'd be looking to reverse it immediately afterwards. Eriksen was my transfer in this week though.

Would you take a hit for an extra Molde player here (Hestad / Løvik)? Guess I would bench Maï Traoré.

    Christiansen
    Soltvedt Øyvann Tómasson
    Tripic Eriksen (K) Tewelde Nypan
    Finne Salvesen Traoré

My answer to that is if you intend to WC.

If you don't, then I may not bother with GW4 fixture. But if you intend to ride it out and then think there's a better chance of hit paying back.

You appear to have interpreted my nonsensical reply correctly. 😉 Late night early morning.

At least you may have done!

General thought is a big turning point of the season will come in 4/5 and the choice of whether to WC then. Quite as significant as this DGW.

Very much on late WC here as the info on the main site about the timing of the WCs looks deceptive when it says the second WC is available after the summer break from GW16 as the summer break looks to start after GW11.

    Another Soltvedt update:
Brann's Joachim Soltvedt was in charge of the match against old club Lyngbø in the cup on Thursday. He is bothered by a knock in his calf and was also not at training on Friday. Now Eirik Horneland confirms that Soltvedt will not be seen from the start away against Viking. - It goes without saying that you don't start when you haven't trained properly all week, says Horneland. The coach believes Soltvedt can be in the squad - and possibly come in. At the same time, Japhet Sery Larsen is declared ready to start. Brann's plan is for the Dane to go into central defense and for Ruben Kristiansen to go out in his old position as left-back. - It is logical if Soltvedt cannot play, says Horneland. - What does it mean to get Sery Larsen back? - First and foremost, he means a lot with his attitude and presence. Then I hope he is cool enough in his head to play a mature match and not take everything out at once, says Horneland.

Thanks. It seems like he won’t start the first game from this you shared.

      So sell Soltvedt you reckon?

Fair enough, especially if you will WC soon. Hard to tell the extent of the injury right now

Think I'd only sell Soldtvedt to get to Linnes if I didn't already have him. Maybe Bjørkan but a tough run of fixtures for him soon.

I sold him. Will buy him back. I have Linnes, double Molde defence. Øyvann in for Soltvedt.

        Well done.

Don't seem to be conceding much but Sarpsborg appear to concede bucketloads of shots per match.

Not sure what sort of chances these were but 22 shots conceded against Vikings, 17 against Odd and looking at live stats Fredikstad have 15 so far in this one.

        A team to target?

Maybe during these early stages yeah. I mean, I don't think they're a terrible, relegation-destined team by any means, but they lost a lot of big players since last season and may still be finding their feet at the moment. Statistically it seems like last season they might have played a more ambitious and open style than what I saw in their opening game at Viking but the low block they employed there might have been fixture-specific

Hopefully Tripic gets half an hour from the bench against tired legs to cause some damage. DGW likely to be underwhelming as usual.

Sounds like a fun game. NRK HT report:
It's halftime at SR-Bank Arena. Viking leads 1-0 after a very entertaining and rich first half. Both teams showed early on that they had the offensive rather than the defensive in focus. Therefore, the game waved wonderfully back and forth from the first kick on the ball. After just eight minutes of play, Bård Finne was close to sending the visitors into the lead when his finish alone with the goalkeeper hit the crossbar. Midway through the half, Patrik Gunnarsson came close to conceding a goal on a reverse play, before Viking then went on the attack and scored the game's only score so far through Lars Jørgen Salvesen. After the score, Viking had some dangers that the Brann defense cleared away, before the visitors put in a real final sprint in overtime. Then captain Sivert Heltne Nilsen also came very close to finding the back of the net when his header from close range hit the post. There has been drama, tough duels, a wonderful atmosphere, goals and several hits on the post in the first half. Hopefully it will be more of the same after the rest.
