Many people seem to be cautious of Remy. Too cautious in my opinion. They just rushed Diego Costa back and got burned for it. Is Mourinho stupid enough to repeat his mistakes? I don't think so.

In any case, I'm 37 points behind with not a lot of time left, time to gamble! Aguero -> Remy (c)

It's not only about Costa - there is a worry Drogba might start ahead of Remy.

Not sure if Mouri will play Remy in both games, esp Arsenal game, big game at Emirates

u have to factor in form after injury

if u notice Costa stats, he dont score on return, only his 2nd week he start scoring again

For sure. I'm just saying Costa has a good chance of returning for the second game of the DGW if not in time for Arsenal. This makes Remy a risk because he might only start one game in the DGW.

He said he was out for at least 2 weeks. 3 1/2 weeks might be plenty of of recovery time. Its all such a long time into the future that we can't make any assumptions either way.

It would actually be Mou fecking up for the umpteenth time. The guy should've had surgery a long time ago. For a supposed top manager Mourinho sure has made a lot of gaffs recently.

Hamstrings are bad juju. I still think a manager of his reputation should've had the nous to sort Lukaku out. He's shipped so many young, talented players out for daft reasons. Long may it continue.

That can certainly be argued, but they wasn't even my point. My point is that Ryan shot down the idea that Costa should have been rested more, and Muppet replied with an absolutely unrelated example that Lukaku was ill-treated at Chelsea as well 🙂

The point being, will he be rushed back for the first game possible? If Remy does well (and the last two games indicate that he has a good chance) they'll have basically wrapped up the title by then. Why risk Costa at that point?

You are making an assumption that the 2nd game of the DGW is when he will be fit. He might be fit sooner than that, in which case he wouldn't have been rushed back if his first game back is in the 2nd game of a DGW.

The fact you said it is a gamble says that Remy is worth being cautious of, no?

I think he's a great punt, is a proven goal-scorer in the Prem League with the likes of Hazard, Fabregas, Oscar and that backline serving him tasty assists. If he's first choice (which you'd assume he is) then he could knock a few in before Costa returns.

For me ... there is just too much uncertainty around this still.

They are all too punty: Ulloa and Vardy are the obvious choices but i wouldn't go near them with a 50-foot Fellaini.

nobody really nailed so would stay clear. Vardy/Ulloa/Nugent/Kramaric, no-one knows who will play and they will prob be rotated during that DGW so it could happen that none of them will play both games

Anything you'd look to do with this lot? (2FT & 1.1 ITB)

    Panti
    Terry - Clyne - Alderweireld
    Sanchez - Hazard (C) - Silva - Eriksen
    Aguero - Austin - Kane

    Krul, Mahrez, Dawson, Naughton

    Cheers.

      Obvious punt:
      Austin > Murray

      Punty punt:
      Eriksen > Mata

      Puntiest of punts:
      Aguero > Rooney

      * note they are all punts, it's a pretty handsome team for this week.

Agreed .. if I'm being honest Man United and Chelsea have over-achieved this year, Man City have underachieved by some margin and Arsenal are finally on par with where they should be.

Chelsea were the stand-out team for most of the year but their last 8-10 GWs have not been convincing. If Arsenal or United didn't have weak starts to the year it could be anyones' to win with 6 round to go!

                Yup. What might've been. 🙁

Although I honestly don't feel we've overachieved. We rode DDG for a while but a class keeper is part of the team just like an outfield player. We had tons of injuries as well. Like a ridiculous amount. Factor in a new manager and I think we're just about where we should be. Chelsea on the other hand should be a good six points behind their current point total.

Even if ADM leaves i think Mata has put his hand up for that role. They can do some smart business in the off-season and you'll be back where you belong.

If you can get another good CM and sort out that backline you'll be in the mix for the title next year methinks. Exciting times considering what things were looking like after 5 GWs.

Bale/Depay, Schneiderlin and Hummels/Laporte would put us in position to walk the league next season I think.

AdM was never a Manchester United player. It's been made abundantly clear over the course of the season. Will be glad to take a slight loss on him quite honestly.

Manu have not overachieved. 🙄 right

Like how Ivanovic was sent off for a blatant dive by ADM, or how the ref purported to prevent 3 stonewall penalties and red card incidences against City (yeah you lot still somehow lost that match as in the gulf in class shone through, but the bias is still clearly evident)

That's just to find a few from the big matches. I don't watch games between Manu and other small teams, so hopefully you'll be able to raise a few counterexamples from those games to back your ridiculous point.

If you look at the quality of the ManU players, they've definitely underachieved. And the best bit is their strongest players are getting on a bit so they wont be as good next year.

I like your optimism but don't see it unfortunately.

Right now I'd be happy with 4th place - finishing above Arsenal / City is a bonus! Think Chelsea have probably done enough already - though I'd almost never write off a title until it's over.

Who knows if Jed will walk back in ... they've been stellar without him. When on the pitch Jedinak will take free-kicks but Punchy has the talent, form and confidence at the moment to score big ... look what happened toward the end of last year, started banging them in for fun!

true.... i like all 3. Zaha a good pacey player but doesn't have the end product. Bolasie a good player as well but doesn't score or produce the attacking returns. Puncheon seems like the best fantasy player out of the 3 and most consistent.

        this - or C)
Panti is good for one more GW, so you night want to hold with Davis since I understand there is some uncertainties with Sot'on keeper situation.
I've got double Terry/Ivan myself, but maybe looking at offloading Terry to bring in Remy or Fabregas for the DGW. But Costa could be back for the DGW, so maybe wait and see.

          Yeah, it's tough.

C is alright but there's too much uncertainty around Remy/Costa/Drogba.

I can't see a Sunderland CS against an attacking Palace side this week, and Soton look pretty good for a CS.

    Good morning,

Wondering wether to sell Austin or keep.
Which one of these plans you see as a better prospect?

    Keeping:
    gw32 Austin, Silva
    gw33 Morgan (SWA)
gw34 Schmeichel (bur, CHE) + Austin (WHM)

    Selling:
    gw32 Berahino, Silva
    gw33 Berahino (cpl)
gw34 Krul (SWA) + Berahino (LIV)

Murray is also tempting, but I can see Naismith/Welbeck etc effect there.
If I get him, he'll stop scoring immediately. Two good homegames coming tough...

Although whenever Aguero is playing, I have to hide behind the couch, selling Aguero two weeks ago for Giroud was probably a season-changing decision for me. If I had kept him, I would've definitely captained him both weeks, but instead I had to captain Kane and Austin, and look how that turned out. FPL is a lot about luck and risk, but I guess that's the reason we love it so much 😀

Best defender for 4.9m or less (Vert replacement)?

Currently have Terry, Vert, Alder, Dawson, PvA. Thinking either Naughton or Schlupp, leaning towards Schlupp due to fixtures and attacking potential.

If you're still an owner, how long does Aguero have left in your team?

I think I'm going to give him the next 3 games at which point Giroud will have had his blank and the Chelsea game.

In those 3 games he has 2 home games against West Ham and Villa and if he's still blanking I'll be happy to get rid. Until then there's not really a striker I'm desperate for and while rivals are holding he's not as much of a pain when he blanks.

Watching last night there were two things that stand out:

    - He was unlucky to not be in the points
    - At the same time he is still dropping deep in the 4-4-2, and doesn't seem to have as much instinct to run at players and drive towards goal. Not sure if it's a confidence thing but there's something not quite right (even though as I say above he was a bit unlucky last night)

All in all I wouldn't be buying him right now but I'm also not desperate to get rid with Rooney having City/Chelsea next 2 games and Giroud having blank / Chelsea. That and I should probably get rid of Austin first.

    1. Kurtinho
      • 9 Years

With the lack of striker options combined with the decreasing importance of 'value' due to budget options such as Kane, I'm happy to keep. He'll come right. Class is permanent, and the fixtures are tasty.

Yeah it's a tough one. My reasoning for going Remy is this:

              - Austin is gone for me this week anyway
              - If Costa is back (confirmed) for the double I'll want him regardless of whether I go Remy or one of Murray/Gomis/Berahino
              - If Costa isn't back then I already have the probable second choice striker in my team and don't need to make an additional transfer

You could look at it from the point that both Remy/Costa are risks and so should use the extra Chelsea slot on one of - Terry / Fabregas / Willian

Think I'll be "risking" Remy though

It he worst (and incredibly annoying) case is if Remy and Costa share the double.

Yeah and that's definitely a possibility if Costa is really only out for 2 weeks.

I guess we just have to wait until the scans come back and see what news we get from Chelsea / Mourinho.

That's the problem with bringing in Remy. You'll need two transfers to switch to double chelsea mids or defence before the double.

But I think I either want Remy or Costa depending on who is fit so might just go for it. Whichever striker I bring in for Austin will become Costa if he's confirmed ready.

Alternatively I just get Murray/Gomis/Berahino and get Fabregas in now

That perpetual hammie injury looked bad this week for Costa...I can see him not making it back at all for these next 7 weeks. I think he's done for the season. They should be able to win it easily with Remy and then Drog coming on at the 80th minute.

Only because Costa is out. If he were fit it'd be an obvious straight swap. Right now Aguero gets a stay of execution due to the lack of strong alternatives.

Don't agree entirely with that - all depends on your plans.

I'd given myself enough money to keep Aguero this week and do Austin to Costa.

Regarding Costa and Remy I'm going to post this one time and leave it at that.

Costa came off limping and holding his thigh. That suggests that what was a Grade 1 strain has been made worse and is now a Grade 2 injury. This also corresponds with what I am hearing on the Chelsea grapevine.

      "Grade 2 Hamstring Strain"

"With a grade 2 hamstring strain your walking pattern will be affected and you will most likely be limping. Sudden twinges of hamstring pain during activity will be present. You may notice some hamstring muscle swelling and your hamstring will be tender to palpate. It will also be painful for you to bend your knee against resistance.

"Hamstring Strain Recovery Times: Grade 2 - 4 to 8 weeks."

      [Source: Physio Works]

Mourinho said "minimum 2 weeks for a muscle injury" after the game, those were his exact words. He couldn't know more at that stage, it was a generic response. Contrary to the general nonsense sometimes peddled on here, Mourinho has been honest and straight about Costa right through the season as far as I recall. And I have listened to every one of his press conferences.

But personally I believe Costa will be out for at least 4 weeks and that if Chelsea get things wrapped up in the next month we may not see Costa again this season. Chelsea are certainly highly unlikely to rush Costa back unless there is a very pressing reason to do so and with Chelsea effectively 10 points clear with 7 games to play (assuming they win the game in hand against Leicester) I can't see that eventuality as being probable.

On the Costa replacement, Mourinho spoke of "owing Remy more starts" even before Costa's injury recurrence. In addition, most of you won't be aware that Drogba is carrying a chronic (persistent) ankle injury that makes it hard for him to play 90 minutes and will probably see him retire at the end of the season with one last PL winners medal. Remy is pretty likely to start every game while Costa is out with Drogba used as a sub. The only games I could imagine Drogba starting are Arsenal (less likely, but Drogba has an immense record against Arsenal) and Sunderland (last game of the season). But personally I expect Remy to start every game.

Make your own decisions on Costa and Remy. But if you want an informed appraisal, this is mine.

        Agree on every word.

Should add that @ARS Mourinho will play Cesc at #10.
So if he can pass the next 2 games without a Y, he is a great shout too.

Well thought out. But got one point wrong.
Mourning has been very vague on Costa fitness, used to be doubtful and then suddenly in the lineup. It happened 2 straight weeks.

Depends what you call vague. Vague for a FPL manager who wants to know whether a player starts or not - maybe. But PL managers don't have a responsibility to announce their teams a day or two before the game and very few ever do. Players with minor injury issues are often subject to a day-of-the-game decision. That can happen at any club and with any player. Convenient or not for FPL.

Depending on shape, I'm still of the mind to go with Fab but, budget depending may reluctantly use Oscar ( that's an enabling budget with Kane!! ). but Remy is in my thinking now.

Confirmation from the Telegraph today (8th March):

"...Costa sustained a hamstring strain against Hull and managed to convince himself, Mourinho and Chelsea medics that he was fit enough to be on the substitutes’ bench against Stoke a fortnight later after withdrawing from the Spain squad..."

"...Having managed to play just 12 minutes as a second-half substitute against Stoke before being forced off clutching his left hamstring, Costa left Stamford Bridge on crutches and had to be helped into a taxi..."

"...Costa may not be allowed to rush himself back (this time) as Chelsea fear the injury that forced him off in the victory against Stoke is worse than the problem the striker sustained against Hull..."

"...(Chelsea) now worry that the damage is worse than before and that Costa will have to take an extended break before the (Premier League's) top scorer tries to play again..."

I'll put this here so it is all in one place...

Chelsea press conference 10th April, Jose Mourinho:

"Diego is injured. I think we have 8 matches to play. If he plays 4 it is normal. If he plays 3 it is a little bit below what I am expecting, if he plays 5 it is more than I am expecting. So I am thinking about 4 matches."

The last 4 matches for Chelsea take us to the Palace game on the 3rd May, 4 weeks and 1 day after Costa came off against Stoke. This chimes with what I wrote above. But it seems that there might be an outside chance of Costa being back for the Leicester game, 3 weeks and 4 days after the injury. This might well be influenced by how well Remy is playing and how well Chelsea have done in the meantime, as well as how well Costa's recovery progresses over the next 3 weeks.

For FPL purposes this says Costa is expected back for GW35 but it could be that he features during GW34 or it could be as late as GW 36.

I'm not convinced by getting Leicester players in although I may still go for a striker but I do agree double game week players generally warrant investment.

I usually ignore the fact they could blank and look at it more of what they could do to me if I didn't own them.
