March Claims FPL Crown

After yet another tense final day, Fantasy Football Scout member, Simon March (aka “Dufflinks”) has claimed the Fantasy Premier League crown.

While the day didn’t quite match Tom Fenley’s single point drama of last season, Simon’s lead was put under real threat by Jon Sumner, aka “Jinswick” who, at the half way stage, looked as though he was going snatch top spot at the death.

Jon had transferred in Theo Walcott and Diego Costa and both stormed to handsome hauls to see him close the gap and claim second spot. However, unfortunately for Jon, he chose to put the armband on Costa rather than Walcott and, in the end, Sergio Aguero’s late goal for Simon ensured that he held on to win by a 21-point margin.

The day brought an end to what has been an outstanding season for Fantasy Football Scout community members, who have tussled for superiority at the top of the rankings for many weeks.

Simon (Dufflinks) has been on these pages since 2012, while Jon (Jinswick) goes back even further. With Kev Gleave, Mariusz Fyrstenberg, Jack Wain, Stuart Greenacre and AbuBakar Siddiq also members of our leagues or posters on the site, allegiances have been split as we entered the final Gameweeks. Those guys all claimed top ten finishes.

Huge congratulations go out to Simon, who, after rising to the summit back in Gameweek 23, becomes the second full Fantasy Football Scout member to claim the crown after Tom’s victory last season.

We will be catching up with Simon in the end of season ScoutCast next week so look out for that and be sure to listen in.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

My best and worst captaincy decisions:

    - Gw8: Aguero (c) 38 points vs Spurs
    - Gw10: Sanchez (c) 32 points when majority chose Costa (c) 4 points vs Qpr

    - Gw18: Giroud (-4p) and even took a hit to bring him in for Rooney (16p)

You know LVG with this year's team would not have finished top four last year against the same competition Moyes had.

    1. Piggs Boson
      • 12 Years
      9 years, 7 days ago

But at least there have been signs of strong improvement. Things kind of stayed the same under Moyes. United's record against the top 6 was pretty good this year.

      1. Heels_Over_Head
        • 10 Years
        9 years, 7 days ago

Should have just given Moyes more money to work with and been patient with him like the team was with Sir Alex. Moyes would have worked for it. LVG is all bluster and "I need more money"

Suarez puts Liverpool in the top 4. Odd team out at the bottom is ManU... which is where they still finished this year with all of LVG's huffing and puffing.

    3. Barry Woj
      • 11 Years
      9 years, 7 days ago

Maybe not, but it won't matter since Liverpool won't have a season like the one they had with Suarez for a long time. LVG has a vision and clear playing style and is capable of inspiring confidence in the players and fans in a way that Moyes couldn't.

One of the stats that Gargatron's tool analyses is captain score as a % of total available. I managed what feels like a v solid 60%, but I'd be the first to admit there's been a fair bit of fortune in some of my selections (never been remotely close to this % in past seasons, hence the acknowledgement of healthy dose of fortune).

The overall winner was just over 50%, whilst the second placed team was around 60%. Just imagine how far out in front Simon could have been with a slightly higher captain %. Having said that, when you are so out in front and playing the percentages, you're less likely to take a chance on some of the inspired selections of Jon Sumner.

I think Chadli is a FPL breakout player. He wasn't a goo FPL option before this season.

Downing is the comeback story. He had a long winter brought on by a case of Liverpool. His fellow sufferer Andy Carroll had a decent flash in the pan as well before injury, again.

what an utterly mediocre Premier League season. Ive never been so underwhelmed watching football
as I have been watching it this year. No standout teams like last season. I think jose has his players running through hoops for him meaning we will never get to see the best of players like hazard or Willian. Hazard was a worthy winner of Player of the Year but he never even came close in my opinion to the brilliance of Suarez....

and thats another thing. Its not just Liver pool who suffered when he left, the Premier League did to. losing a worldy like him-a player who could be so consistent week in week out -has left a huge void that only saw alexis come close to reaching this year but even he fell away to. And where has Rooney been this year? Its amazing how low the bar has been set for him now in terms of acceptable performances

Everyone at Chelsea does there jobs and thats it. they basically stopped playing on after Jan 1 and we only saw them break out of their comfort zone in patches. They might win leagues with that but that wont cut it with Europes Elite.

And the refereeing..my god...the refereeing. an utter shambles and shame to their profession.

    Morning all...

Did anyone actually keep up with UFPL??

I tried, but kept forgetting. Potentially it should be perfect for us on here, but forgot subs at least 15 times

GW ranks of 13, 16, 35, 116, 256, kept my interest but "ultimately" I failed

    Anyone do well??

Finished outside top 100. I wonder how well I'd have done without the mistakes. Forgot to do substitutions 3 times over the season. I like the format but without the interest/excitement of being in mini-leagues with mates, it just isn't half as good as the main game.

Do we know who the 3 teams are, that will most likely be promoted to the BPL? I pay very little attention to the championship, so excuse my ignorance.

I see the table has 24 teams and only played 46 games, so there are still 2 more rounds to be played?

5 points separating top 4 so things could change quite a bit, given 2 wins = 6 points?

Teams don't have to play against themselves, only against the other 23 twice each.
Bournemouth and Watford have qualified directly by finishing 1st and 2nd, and Norwich via the playoffs between the next four.

Cheers for the reply, silly of me to forget that they don't play themselves 😛 - obviously.
