Dugout Discussion

Dugout Discussion – Matchday 3 – Day 1

Sunday evening brings the curtain down on Group A, as tournament hosts France take on Switzerland, while Romania and Albania collide in a “must-win” encounter.

France go into tonight’s meeting having already confirmed progress to the knock-out stages. They need just a point to top the group, although Didier Deschamps may yet look to instill a degree of urgency as his side bid to end this phase in style.

Up until now, the hosts have required three late goals to seal their two victories – they will look to be more convincing with their display against the Swiss.

Switzerland head into tonight’s match needing a draw to claim runners-up spot, suggesting that we could witness a cautious approach from both sides.

Both the Swiss goals to this point have been conjured from set-plays, having profited from more dead-ball scenarios than any other side in qualifying. Vladimir Petković will surely target corners and free-kicks as the most likely means of troubling the French defence.

Albania and Romania can consider themselves unfortunate not to have more points on the board.

The Albanians have exceeded expectations with their performances, if not their results. While they’ve suffered two defeats without scoring, they have shown enough to indicate that will not go out with a whimper.

As for Romania, they’ve also demonstrated the talent to suggest that they can make further progress. Like Albania, however, they must now abandon defensive resolve in favour of all-out-attack, in a bid to earn the victory they so desperately require.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Yep, an extra £5m to compensate for the rising price of the average starting player the further into the knockouts we go.

I don't believe so. The 105 looks likely for new entries only, ie to win the prizes at each stage.

If the speculation about the line-up tonight is true, I wouldn't expect England to run riot. Slovakia are not a bad side and you cannot expect six English changes to immediately gel and become a team of world beaters. A low scoring draw or narrow England win is my prediction.
With that in mind, if we were to finish second in the group (e.g we draw and Wales win) who would be our likely oppo?

Anyone else play the last euro fantasy 4 years ago? I'm 99% sure I remember everyone getting the extra £5m after the group stages, and price rises being no more than 0.1m. It's possible I'm confusing it with the world cup/champions league games though.

Here's more on that England line up rumour. Looks like possibly more than paper talk.

    https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/jun/19/england-roy-hodgson-wayne-rooney-slovakia

Out - Rooney, Alli, Kane, Sterling, Rose, Walker
In - Sturridge, Vardy, Wilshire, Henderson, Bertrand, Clyne

If true, it sounds like giving up on the 1st place.

But I just can't believe Hodgson, a known conservative, would make so many compromises just to keep Rooney, Rose, Walker and Alli rested (I do believe in Kane and Sterling deserving the bench).

      "Automatic substitutions

If no manager substitutions or captain changes are made, automatic substitutions will take place at the end of the matchday, when all fixtures have been played."

      Doesn't seem like good news...

My friend learned that the hard way. Had Gia on bench andBruno Alves (no show) on the pitch only to watch no auto-subs because of his C movement.

So, no auto-subs if C or substitutions are made.

      Cheers.
