The Stock Check – Gameweek 37 – Wednesday

Southampton and Manchester United grind out a goalless draw at St Mary’s as Manolo Gabbiadini’s Fantasy misfortunes go from bad to worse in the penultimate match of double Gameweek 37.

On the Rise

Maya Yoshida, Jack Stephens
The only defender to survive Claude Puel’s double Gameweek tinkering, Yoshida retained his role to start for the nineteenth successive league outing in last night’s clash with Man United.

A total of nine points accrued across the pair of matches against Middlesbrough and United was more than any member of the Saints’ backline as the St Mary’s outfit collected a fifth clean sheet in 10 attempts.

Owned by a mere 5% of FPL managers, Yoshida has now delivered 33 points in his previous six home appearances. He looks a secure final-day pick at home to a Stoke City side that has failed to score in six of their previous seven on the road.

Stephens was rested for the first match of the double only to return to the Southampton XI last night and earn two bonus points.

The youngster’s ability to collect bonus is key here. He has earned 10 additional points over those five clean sheets, compared with Yoshida’s five bonus across the same fixtures – potentially a decisive factor for those currently holding both and mulling over which to bench for the Stoke match. Southampton now have three shut-outs in four with Stephens and Yoshida in the heart of defence.

Over 62,000 FPL managers owned both Yoshida and Stephens, benefiting from 17 points over the Gameweek 37 fixtures.

In Decline

Manolo Gabbiadini
Rested for the weekend win at Middlesbrough, the Italian returned to Puel’s starting XI against the Red Devils.

But as far as his loyal 8% owners are concerned, Gabbiadini may as well have warmed the bench for all the good he did.

Failing quite spectacularly as a double Gameweek asset, the winter signing stepped up to miss a penalty and deliver zero points over the Saints’ pair of fixtures before being hauled off just after the hour-mark to put his chastened ownership out of their misery.

Gabbiadini, essentially, provided a meagre four points across back-to-back doubles and now has just a single assist in his last seven league outings – a far cry from the form that harvested four goals in his first three Gameweek appearances.

Over 18,000 FPL managers have already sold him out ahead of the home encounter with Stoke – yes, he may well start, but judging by last night’s output that clearly guarantees little going on the striker’s current form.

David de Gea
United’s most popular FPL player and the third most-owned (33%) in the game, the Spaniard missed out altogether as his side chalked up a sixteenth clean sheet of the campaign – level with Chelsea and second only to Spurs’ 17.

Those still holding De Gea will now need to rely on their second keepers or dip into the market after Jose Mourinho confirmed that the Spaniard will play no further part in the season.

“David? I think the first match against LA Galaxy in pre-season in Los Angeles. I hope to play Joel Pereira against Crystal Palace, I hope to play Sergio in the final and hopefully, we don’t have problems with these two keepers”.

With Eric Bailly limping off last night and Mourinho revealing his intentions to field a number of youngsters in Sunday’s clash with Palace ahead of Wednesday’s Europa League final against Ajax, there’s no surprise to see owners of the likes of Antonio Valencia (14,000+) and Marcus Rashford (18,000+) already selling and seeking alternatives.

Everyone here is convincing themselves that the weekend will be a Goalfest...just because recent History tells them so.

It's all irrelevant so do what you feel.

Some games this weekend have every potential to peter out into 0-0 nil bores. Take last night for example.

With regards to your Team selection, just because Ake is at risk of playing, I would favour Pedro. I just feel Antonio will start us with a strong lineup last game in respect to the players that have one the title. Just my opinion.

No chance, Antonio won't deny him the opportunity of joining the club of players to play every minute of the season.

I believe Antonio will start with a strong lineup, out of respect for those that have won us the League to play on the day we lift the Trophy.

I have my TC chip left, maybe only a few who do (forgot play it two GW's ago, fail!)

ML's are won and hovering around 8k OR, who should I be punting on?

Liverpool or Arsenal assets as the only two who still have something to play for or a real punt (i.e. Siggy, Benteke etc)?

    Caballero
    Alonso - Monreal - Verthongen - Yoshida
    Sanchez - Eriksen - Coutinho - King
    Kane - Jesus

    Pickford, Albrighton, Stephens, Anichebe

This is what my team currently looks like for GW38

    Cech
    Koscielny - Alonso - Yoshida - Stephens
    Sanchez - Hazard - Alli - Eriksen
    Costa - Jesus

    Bench: Caballero, Capoue, Anichebe, Maguire

    2FT, 0.1ITB.

Who to get? Hazard>Coutinho the obvious one if it looks like Hazard won't play. Where should I use my other FT? Upgrade Maguire? Get Sturridge? Obviously depending on Koscielny's injury and news about Chelsea players.

    1. UnitedFan
      • 8 Years
      7 years, 1 day ago

Depending on Kosc's injury, you could maybe take a punt on Matip? If you want to focus on attacking transfers due to GW38's high goal rate, maybe you can drop one of the Spurs mids to Mahrez? Sturridge is a decent shout, but I'd keep those 2 strikers you have.

Who to get in for Hazard if I need to climb in rank? Was set on Coutinho, but as I need a final push in OR, should I go for the more differential option of Mahrez? Ownerships are 20.6% and 8.2%. Currently at 346K with Kane and Eriksen tonight.

    A) Coutinho (MID)
    B) Mahrez (BOU)

Too right. Worst decision this season to get him on a DGW. But he subbed out for king so I got lucky!

    A) play Pickford away to Chelsea
    B) any goal keeper for a -4

    1. Lawrø

      A)

Rarely good practice to take a hit on a goalkeeper - especially when you only have one game for him to pay the points back! You'd expect Pickford to rack up the saves against Chelsea too... you'd be looking at 7pts+ just to break even imo

This lack of patiens with proven classplayers might be a reason why some have bad ranks and complaining that xxx let them down all season, even when xxx is top ranked. Thats why I´m keeping Haz if he´s not confirmed out

That is a very true statement about the season as a whole - certain players are great players and they will come good. The absurdity of recent Sanchez out posts on here and sales were a great example.

But the final game is not a whole season. Unless Conte explicitly says otherwise, I'd be amazed if Hazard starts. He was given 90 minutes for a reason - because he won't play on Sunderland. Willian and Pedro will take the wide positions, and Hazard will earn a rest in a meaningless game ahead of the FA Cup. We can't ignore the context in making this decision.

Yes, this is the final push. I think this Sunderland game could be a great chance for Haz to keep matchsharpness and get an egoboost by scoring. Guess all we can do is wait and see. Protecting a 31 point ML advantage also makes it important

I understand confidence from scoring but match sharpness? He played 3 games in 10 days!

You can quote me on this: Hazard won't start on Sunday. Feel free to throw it in my face if he doesn't, but I'm confident.

    1 - yes
2 - find another way to bring coutinho
3 - sturridge is the pool man to have
