With domestic action resuming this Saturday, we have launched our latest Captain Poll to canvass your views on the best armband options for Gameweek 12.

Following a tough run of fixtures for Manchester United, a home encounter with Newcastle United looks an ideal opportunity for Romelu Lukaku (11.5) to reach the summit for the first time since Gameweek 7. So far, he’s the leading candidate and has earned over 29% of the votes cast.

Despite failing to find the net in his last seven club matches, a brace for Belgium in their 3-3 friendly with Mexico last Friday bodes well for an upturn in fortunes.

The number one forward for sales (76,000+) for a second Gameweek running in Fantasy Premier League, Lukaku has an impressive home record, supplying four goals and two assists in five Old Trafford league matches.

In addition, the Newcastle backline has proved frail on the road, conceding in all but one of their five away days, while captain Jamaal Lascelles may well be an absentee through injury.

A visit to Leicester City means that Manchester City’s wealth of attacking options are among the Belgian’s main rivals for the armband.

However, rotation fears, particularly after a busy international break for many of their key players, may reduce confidence.

Sergio Aguero (11.8) may well lead the charge in our poll. He is the top scoring FPL forward with eight goals and three assists to his name.

However, it’s worth noting that the Argentine may be one of City’s weariest travellers over the break. After two friendly matches in Russia, including a clash against Nigeria tomorrow, Pep Guardiola may decide to ration Aguero’s minutes with one eye on the Champions League match against Feyenoord the following Tuesday.

Gabriel Jesus (10.5), who has started every away match in the league, could be another strong contender. As will FPL’s top scoring player, Leroy Sane (8.9), who has six goals and five assists this term. Over the international break more than 101,000 managers have brought in the German winger, who has four sets of double-digits in the last six.

With Raheem Sterling (8.2) a minor injury doubt, some may instead opt for the security of starts that midfield pair David Silva (8.5) and Kevin De Bruyne (10.1) can offer. Silva has caught the eye over the recent break, bagging a brace in Spain’s win over against Costa Rica.

However, it’s worth remembering that Leicester City won the corresponding fixture 4-2 last season, with Jamie Vardy (8.6) netting a hat-trick.

With Nicolas Otamendi sidelined through suspension in Guardiola’s backline, Vardy and Riyad Mahrez (8.4) could be set to profit. Certainly, the latter is the Foxes’ form player ahead of Saturday afternoon’s encounter, serving up attacking returns in each of his last four league matches.

Harry Kane (12.8) disappointed his 607,000 new owners and the 1.4m FPL managers who captained him with a blank against Crystal Palace last time out. It was the fifth time in six appearances at Spurs’ temporary home that Kane has failed to provide attacking returns. However, his record on the road and in London derbies is stacked in his favour ahead of trip to Arsenal.

Kane has netted twice in each of his last three away outings and has a fine record against the Gunners, scoring in all five league fixtures.

Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata (10.3) is the hottest FPL property up front ahead of a trip to a West Brom side that’s managed just one clean sheet in nine Gameweeks.

After netting his seventh of the season against Man United, the summer signing was also on the scoresheet in Spain’s win over Costa Rica – he’s earned 91,000+ transfers in this Gameweek, more than any forward.

Morata has returned 28 points in his last three away appearances ahead of his visit to The Hawthorns.

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (9.4) is another strong candidate this time around, with seven goals and three assists, ahead of Southampton’s trip to Anfield. Since his brace against West Ham in Gameweek 11, the Egyptian has been the top target in the transfer market with 149,000+ more owners.

Rested from international duties over the break, Salah looks a very enticing prospect if he continues in a new central role for the Reds – indeed, he’s joint-second with Kane in the Poll, with over 19% backing.

Among the differential options is Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha (6.8), who hosts an Everton side that has shipped ten goals on the road. Since his return from injury, the Ivorian international has scored in both his home appearances.

Brighton’s Glenn Murray (5.8) is an intriguing alternative ahead of Stoke’s visit to the Amex. The veteran striker has scored four in his last three, while the visitors have conceded 11 on their travels.

And the Seagulls’ playmaker Pascal Gross (5.9) should also be considered, given that he has averaged 7.2 points per match in front of his own supporters.

Finally, Watford’s Richarlison (6.4) hosts West Ham in David Moyes’ first match in charge on Sunday.

Granted, all four of his goals have arrived in away matches, but the young Brazilian has still picked up points against the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal at Vicarage Road.

The poll is now live in the middle column on your homepage on desktop, or via the slide-in menu on mobile and tablet under recent comments.

Remember, we are looking for your vote for the player you think will be most effective, regardless of whether you own them or not.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later ahead of the Gameweek 12 deadline when we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering an analysis of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

    A) Sergio Aguero
    B) Romelu Lukaku

Both? Personally I think it’s a big risk to go without Lukaku for the next 2-3 weeks. Long term Kun is better.

Just imagine Lukaku and his 48% ownership scores a brace and Aguero is benched after looking jaded from his trips to Russia.

We could be here all day imagining stuff.

True but it's not the last thing you should consider when they haul, it certainly won't be the last thing you think about if said player hauls.

As long as my team is doing well who cares about high owned players?

If as a team, it gets a green arrow, no problem even if Luka or somene else get a hatty. In the end, green arrow is what matters I guess...

I'm not in "No-Luka" camp and he is a good pick for next 3, just not convinced that I need him in my team.

...but obviously you recognise that as Lukaku is highly owned, if he does get a hattrick it makes it vastly more difficult for you to get a green arrow.

                Right?

This being jaded thing is all new. In the 80s when men were men there was none of this jaded rubbish. It's embarrassing. For a lot less than 300k per week wages they could play an enjoyable sport for 3 hours in a week without being molly-coddled.

You underestimate how early young men are put on a very cynical conveyer belt from which they can be thrown at any time if their play isn't up to scratch. Take a 10 year old boy and put him through that it's hardly surprising they don't weep tears of joy every time they play.

Don’t think it ever comes down to a straight choice between premium forwards - all depends on the rest of your team.

You can get City attacking points though by having City players other than Kun, you will struggle to get Man U attacking points other than through Lukaku

      1. Emiliano Sala

But when city win 5-1 you need more city players than man utd when they are struggling to win 1-0

Most people have 2 or 3 City players, why do you think people will leave themselves exposed without?

Meanwhile, while most pick up points with Sane/Silva/Sterling or KDB, those with Lukaku C will also be loling at those without when they have the best of both worlds.

Lukaku can't even manage a good shot at the moment and Utd look dull and boring.Kun is a world class player, playing for the most free scoring team in Europe.

That is exactly my point, I have Silva, Sterling and Lukaku ... so hopefully I get returns from the 5-1 City win and invariably a return in the 1-0 Utd win ... except Utd are the second highest scorers in the League and are averaging over 2 goals a game so I expect a bit more than 1-0 wins 😉

You can only have 3 City players and picking 3 others rather than Kun, allows you to have Lukaku - the nailed forward from the second highest scoring PL team 🙂

            So true.

They've scored 15 in 5 at home, that's an average of 3 a game, at home they are a force, people are expecting Jose to park the bus against Newcastle, Brighton and Watford like they would against a top 4 side.

    A. Aguero
    B. Lukaku
    C. Morata
    D. Kane

Will one 'cover' the others' scoring? Perhaps a case of where it won't matter?

      Kane
      Lukaku (Pogba back)
      Morata
      Lukaku (no Pogba)

Looking at the following for a -8:

    Vardy + Eriksen + Kolasinac > Morata + Richarlison + Azpi/Gomez/Dann

The extra money saved by picking Gomez/Dann goes towards upgrading Atsu to bringing in one of Hazard/KDB, over someone like Ramsey/Zaha if I bring in Azpi.

    Which would you prefer?

Arsenal have let in two goals a game on average away from home, with the one clean sheet coming with their visit to Chelsea. Anyone fancy a Kane bag of goals?

Home or away, Arsenal can’t afford to sit back and play for a 0-0. Kane has 8 in 6 this season when not playing against teams looking for the 0-0 (palace, Burnley, Bournemouth, Swansea)

I'd probably keep tbh. Vardy seems to do well under new managers. Jesus scores when he plays and has started every away game this season. Scares me as an Aguero owner.

    Hey guys,

    2FT what you think

    Foster
    Alonso Naughton Jones
    Eriksen Sterling Richarlison Choupo
    Kun Morata Vardy

Elliot Carroll Cresswell Mbemba 2.0 ITB 2FT

    A) Alonso and Vardy to Mee and Lukaku
    B) Eriksen and Vardy to 8.7 and Lukaku
    C) Cresswell to someone
    D) Mbemba to someone
    E) something else

Thinking that a playing bench is pretty important in the coming weeks but I do want Lukaku.

    Thoughts appreciated

Vardy should be in your team. He's more likely to score against City than, say, BUR, in a few game weeks' time.

    Duff Jones? Luiz? Ward
    Salah Silva Rich Choupo
    Kane Jesus
    Elliot Vardy VVD TC

    Hi Guys,

Iam saving my transfers for the last moment (worried about injuries). My team is as follows:

    Elliot/Forster
    Ward/Jones/Davies/Otamendi/Mbemba
    Salah/Sterling/Richarlison/Carroll/King
    Kane/Jesus/Vardy

Suggest transfers please. I have 1 free transfer (ready to take hits if its worth it) and 2.4 Mn itb.

    thanks in anticipation.

    regards.

Upgrade Mbemba as you have Otamendi (sus) and 2 doubts Jones and Davies. So Mbemba to def to nailed def from team you would think will keep cleanies in the medium and long term.

Mbemba to Dunk or Mbemba to Daniels (not really good CS prospect but possible attacking returns) Some Stoke defender also worth considering.

He only played one game in that 'month' since he scored. Clearly your understanding of a calendar is as good as your grasping of the tricky concept of form.

Good to go for this week?

1.3 bank, no FT and plenty of doubts on what structure I want moving forward.

    DDG (Elliot)
Stones / Jones / Mee / Duffy (Mbemba)
Salah / Silva / Richarlison (RLC / Tom Caroll)
    Kane (C) / Jesus (V) / Morata

Good team but I think forwards expense hinders the midfield. Jesus to Abraham/ Calvert Lewin sub 6m striker. Silva and RLC to Sane and Zaha.

Yeah I think this is my long-term play.

Jesus-cheap striker and Carroll-Sane is on the cards next week, would rather do it for a -4, than a -8 right now though.
