Richarlison ends his Vicarage Road goal drought as Will Hughes catches the eye against West Ham. Elsewhere, the heroics of Heurelho Gomes helps the Hornets to a rare clean sheet as David Moyes’ tenure at West Ham begins with defeat.

Richarlison ends home drought

Such a reliable source of goals and Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points on his travels, Richarlison finally found the net at home after failing to produce a single effort on target in his previous five at Vicarage Road.

Owned by 18%, the young Brazilian’s home output was of particular concern bearing in mind that his next two visitors are Manchester United and Spurs in Gameweek 14-15.

Yet Sunday’s strike maintained a remarkable run of consistency – he’s now delivered attacking points in six of the last seven Gameweeks ahead of next weekend’s trip to Newcastle United.

Heightening his appeal for that Magpies clash is that, away from home, Richarlison has averaged 7.2 points per match and is the league’s top player for shots inside the opposition box (20).

On the downside, he also has a testing trip to Burnley directly after those United and Spurs matches. But the case for holding is very convincing, with the fixtures turning in his favour from Gameweek 17 once again.

At a price of 6.5, Richarlison is now the top FPL midfielder for value in terms of points per million and sits fifth in the midfield standings on 66 points.

Despite that, his inability to claim bonus points continues to dent the South American’s captaincy potential. He has scored or assisted in eight of the first 12 Gameweeks but has earned bonus points on just two occasions.

Today’s BPS haul was limited by two shots off target and two fouls conceded, while he was also tackled twice.

Hughes impresses in tactical tweak

Handed a central support role alongside Richarlison as Marco Silva moved to 3-4-2-1 against the Hammers, Will Hughes overshadowed his more popular team-mate thanks to a goal, assist and maximum bonus.

But Watford’s form on the road suggests that Silva could revert to his usual 4-2-3-1 at St James’ Park – only Man City (16) and Chelsea (14) have scored more away goals than the Hornets’ 12.

Regardless of formation, Hughes (4.6) now looks likely to be on the teamsheet for the trip to Tyneside after months on the periphery.

Handed just 10 minutes in the opening 10 Gameweeks, Hughes has now started both of Watford’s last two. However, Roberto Pereyra made a return to the bench and replaced the former Derby County man late on; he will doubtless threaten Hughes’ start in weeks to come.

Andre Gray was again a starter up front as Troy Deeney served the second match in a three-match suspension. Gray’s scuffed assist for Hughes’ opener was his second in as many matches.

Gomes keeps it clean

Silva can thank Heurelho Gomes for their first clean sheet in eight attempts after he denied Cheick Kouyate and Marko Arnautovic with superb stops.

Indeed, David Moyes can at least take encouragement from the fact that his side had three big chances today – they had managed just six in their previous six road trips under Slaven Bilic.

For the hosts, the decision to bench Jose Holebas came as a surprise as Marvin Zeegelaar (4.4) earned his first outing of the season at left wing-back. Holebas had played every minute of the previous 10 matches he had been available for, only missing the Gameweek 3 encounter against Brighton due to suspension.

Ranked top for crosses (82) and successful crosses (17) among defenders, Holebas is second only to Ben Davies for key passes (15 to 22) at the back.

Watford’s primary corner taker over the first 11 (he had taken 33 of their first 50), Holebas’ absence saw Hughes also claim dead-ball duties, taking all three of Watford’s corners.

Zeegelaar impressed on his first start, picking up two bonus points on his debut having won three tackles. Kiko Femenía – our preferred option among Silva’s defence – picked up a single bonus point but hobbled off late on with a knock.

Elsewhere, Adrian Mariappa – a 4.0 option in FPL – also earned a notable recall in Silva’s three-man defence having been dropped for the previous two outings.

However, like Hughes, Mariappa will surely have strong competition for his starting role with Sebastian Prödl returning from injury to figure on the bench on Sunday. Younes Kaboul is also on the road to recovery, with Silva likely to go into the busy Christmas period with the option to rotate his centre-backs.

Thoughts on this -12 hit to get Pogba. I'll be losing 3 injured/dropped players but also Kane which could be risky:

Stones (injured) out - Daniels in
Abraham (injured) out - Niasse (assuming not banned, seems unlikely) in
Kane (very risky) out - Jesus (could be even riskier) in
Carroll (dropped) out - Pogba (c) in

I will not be making those moves until last minute. I could be taking a big gamble but hey it makes it exciting. I can see this paying off with Stones, Abraham & Carroll not playing so it's not really like a true -12 hit especially if Pogba (c) goes off. The risky part is if Kane explodes & Jesus doesn't start/rotation risk.

    Thoughts & thanks.

      Good looking team. Great week!

No City attack is very risky. We pretty much got away with it this week (did that exact transfer this week) but that team is most likely to score 3+ any game in PL. That being said only way to get a City mid would be downgrading Vardy and upgrading C-M.

Decided to relook into history of Kane in my teams so far. I had him since gw 1.

    GW1 - 1 point
    GW2 - 1 point
    GW3 - 4 points (C)
    GW4 - 26 points (C)
    GW5 - 4 points (C)
    GW6 - 26 points (C)
    GW7 - 26 points (C)
    GW8 - 4 points (C)
    GW9 - 16 points
    GW10 - Injured.
    GW11 - 4 points (C)
    GW12 - 2 points (C)

Of all the times I captained him out of 8 times, he blanked 5 times and returned 3 times.

That's better than me - I've captained him 5 times and he's returned once. He's out soon if he doesn't start performing, I don't see why he has to be so untouchable.

I've captained him 6 times. 1 haul and 5 blanks. Not sure I still want to go without. Don't want Aguero or Jesus. I guess double Chelsea is an option after Pool.

But having Kane and not captaining him feels like a waste.

It’s true but last time Spurs won at Emirates was fookin ages ago. I don’t get why people expected a Kane haul, but obviously he is explosive in any game. All I’m saying is, people should not complain that he had blank in derby game. And the fact that selling him before West Brom could backfire massively

Guess Burnley will concede this week and playing Mariappa over Mee. Will wait for Jones news though.

          I got Pope and Mee
          Alonso ok
But Jones and Kika on the injured list and already taken a hit 🙁

Pope and Mee seems very risky by really don't want another hit - hoping Jones and Kika are ok.

Have Morata and Alonso already and will triple up of Che medium term. No utd players in A or B
C is the current Jones and Alli

    A. Azpi and Pogba
    B. Dunk and Hazard
    C. Jones and Alli
    D. Other options - thanks

Didn't like the Alli pick yet.
Dunk and Hazard is my choice considering Haz form and presence of Alonso in your team. It will be painful to watch Chelsea concede goals when you have so much money on their defence.

Or nice when they both get 15 some week
Seriously I think you are right. I already have a defence double up with Pope and Mee.

Ha ha.. Its all about luck sometimes. Personally i believe Alonso is enough. Just check his advance positioning.

Plus having Hazard will easily cover Azpi who is playing back 3 recently.

Ok the only problem I have now is that I have about .2 to spare for the Azpi and Pogba move but nothing for Hazard and Dunk.
So would need to get Haz before he rises.
Thanks are for noting Azpi positional change.

Could be a 0-0, Liverpool actually are good defensively at home, Chelsea play very defensively against the other big teams this year... also both will be tired after champs league & neither will want to lose. It'll get off to a cagey start, 0-0 at HT then nip & tuck through the second half.

That stat has come up a lot but look at the teams we've played, with the exception of United, who didn't even try to attack us. While home advantage statistically leads to an improvement in defensive performance, it doesn't suddenly make an average defence the best in the league. I think circumstantial factors have contributed massively to us apparently being the best team in the league defensively when at Anfield

Are Kane & Kaku on borrowed time? In a way it's good that they both have another "easy" fixture next - if they both don't haul, there will be a lot of xfers out moving to 5 man midfields & Haz

They both should easily score 20+ goals this season, irrespective of the tough upcoming fixtures.

I agree with that. Although losing them risk due to high ownership, it would make you have a decent & balanced team for sure.

I’d sacrifice Lukaku who is not as explosive as Harold, if you must.

Kane is untouchable imo, however in terms of value Morata is a better bet than Lukaku, he may even outscore him come the end of the season. Morata is scoring reguarly as well as getting assists. He's played less than Lukaku and has gotten more points so far, so no reason why it can't happen.

Nobody is untouchable but seriously doubt I'll move Kane any time soon. All it take is one haul and I'd want him back.

I'm seriously considering Chelsea double up after Pool and Lukaku. In that case I'd transfer Pogba in though.

Pogba has been amazing this season! I'm creating a way to get him in and possibly dropping Kaku. I was seriously considering going without Lukaku but after Pogback I didn't want to risk it so ended up doing Jesus -> Kaku (c) as I preferred him as an captain option over Kane.

Fear can be our worst enemy in this game. I've made getting Pogba a priority, he's a 9-10m mid priced at 8m.

          • 9 Years

That is exactly why he's untouchable. You move him on and you're always wondering when the next hat trick will come, he's explosive, has great fixtures and a high ownership. You'll have to have nerves of steel to first sell him and then ignore him when he hauls.

Not a bad option. I'll go Kane. I think. I'd want Sane as my City player but will very likely hold as I think Eriksen vs WBA is equally good option next gw.

So many good options in midfield at present. I'd agree with that, Eriksen could very easily do well. I'll probably chicken out and go Kane in the end, the Baggies look woeful, them, Hudds, West Ham and Watford are the fixtures I'd readily captain any premium mid/forward I have in

Thinking of saving tbh. Eriksen looks good vs WBA. Alonso after Pool is tempting. But so is Morata and I won't triple. Might part with Richarlison after Newcastle. You're planning on keeping him?

Ya holding Richarlison. If he can get a return in one of the tough fixtures it's enough and his fixtures after that are good so I don't wanna buy him back for 6.6 or 6.7m

I'll hold if Jones is fit but otherwise I can't be bothered having him. Stupid of me to bring him in early over the ib.. 1dt time I've been bitten so lesson learned hopefully

Keeping both until one becomes in such form that the other is not needed for captaincy, right now, Kane is not as reliable as he should be but confident it'll come.

For me when you have the likes of Sterling, Sane, Pogba, Coutinho, Mane and Salah running around, Hazard is a luxury rather than a necessity, a very appealing luxury but a luxury nonetheless. Morata however is unrivalled when it comes to value amongst the forwards. That's why I'll be going Morata and giving Hazard a miss personally.
