Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Walcott Decides Low Key Clash

Theo Walcott strikes to secure an Everton victory and end Newcastle United’s run of wins, as Fantasy managers benefit from defensive returns.

Walcott converted a Yannick Bolasie cross at the second attempt, mis-controlling initially before seeing the ball ricochet back to him via DeAndre Yedlin.

It marked only the second match in which Walcott has found the net for the Toffees following a brace back in Gameweek 25.

A run of just one assist in nine Gameweeks has understandably seen Walcott decline and stall as a Fantasy attraction – he went into Monday’s encounter owned by just 169,000+ managers.

Some 8,900 of those had the foresight to bring in the winger with their Free Hit; it meant that Walcott was found in just 5.7% of squads built with that chip for Gameweek 35.

There faith in Everton’s defence was stronger.

A quiet night for Pickford

Having kept two clean sheets in the previous three at home before last night’s shut-out, the Magpies’ visit provided enough incentive for significant Free Hit investment.

Jordan Pickford was signed by 40,000+ managers before Saturday’s deadline, second only to Ederson among FPL goalkeepers.

But another 40,000 also acquired the keeper with their Free Hit, meaning that he was found in 26.1% of the chip’s squads.

Ironically, Pickford had a restful evening and was called upon to make just two saves; it’s only the second time in nine Gameweeks that he has failed to produce a save point.

As a result, the bonus points went elsewhere, with Michael Keane and Leighton Baines the chief benefactors.

Keane was a major differential in the Toffees backline. He earned the maximum bonus but was limited to an eight-point return following a booking. The centre-back was part of just 307,000 squads, which included 7,000 Free Hit managers.

Baines was a far more popular target.

Some 18,000 used a Gameweek transfer on the full-back, while another 41,000 acquired him with the Free Hit. Like Keane, he delivered eight points on the night.

Everton’s assets are now set to fade from view in Fantasy terms. While their fixtures are strong (hud SOU whu), they offer no Double Gameweek and continue to be erratic as a source of both defensive and attacking returns.

Magpies fail the chipless

While a good proportion of Free Hit managers benefited from the Everton clean sheet, those without the chip active who invested in Newcastle’s budget assets were left empty-handed.

Striker Ayoze Perez was brought in by 136,000 ahead of Gameweek 35, making him the eighth most signed player.

That investment followed a run of three goals and two assists from his last three starts.

But despite firing five shots on goal, Perez blanked, along with budget midfielder Kenedy, who was acquired by another 13,000 managers prior to the deadline.

Walcott’s goal also denied the clean sheet, as those holding keeper Martin Dubravka and full-back Paul Dummett were disappointed.

But unlike Everton, there is still some life in Newcastle’ Fantasy appeal.

They face a home fixture with a resurgent West Brom in Gameweek 36, before two fixtures in Gameweek 37 as they travel to Watford and Spurs.

Neither of those fixtures scream big returns, though Dummett and Kenedy will likely be retained and recruited as cut-price options – particularly by late Bench Boosters – for the double-header.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Rate My Team Free Hit fix now in place

The RMT tool has now been altered to revert back to Gameweek 34 teams when inputting your FPL ID. This is to take into account the large number of people Free Hitting in GWK 35. For those who didn't Free Hit hopefully only very minimal changes should be needed to get to your GWK 35 set up.

Is that any chance that next season RMT could include the ability to omit a GW? Would’ve really liked to look at the whole run-in without the free hit week.

Tough one. I think we may see Lucas start to get more game time. I also think there is a small chance Poch starts mixing up the formation to freshen things up. In which case Son is likely to get dropped.

Having said that, Son does bloody love scoring against crap teams at Wembley, and he's got WAT, NEW & LEI left.

I own him, and I'm looking to sell Willian and/or Mahrez first.

I expect him to start 3 of the remaining games.

He could even get a run out at striker for half a game (maybe against Newcastle) if Kane decides golden boot has gone and there's no point flogging himself to death before the world cup.

We'd have to have wrapped up champions league though.

    a) Lukaku > Jesus
    b) Willian + Lukaku > Sane + Jesus (-4) (can't afford Sterling)
    c) Save FT

For those with DDG, is it worth getting Man Utd defence for 37? Boat missed on Smalling?

Don't see why you'd have 'missed the boat'. He's only 5.6m.

I prefer Tottenham defenders in premium bracket (Vert or Davies).

Save this week and reassess next week. Maybe get a Swansea def.

Nobody worried about Sterling being rotated? I’m gonna wait a week, he has Foden, Sane and Bilva for competition and Sane has had a decent rest.

If Sterling plays again this week I doubt he starts both in the double.

I'd rather been on and the victim of rotation than off and get my pants pulled down for trying to be too clever.

Sterling rested this GW would be perfect

I know it's not a priority thought - but who are people benching in 37? Burnley players?

Yep. My bench is likely to be pure Burnley + Ryan!

I currently have no Man City players... Thinking to do Lukaku and Willian to Jesus and Silva this week for -4. Sound good?

Hi guys, maybe been asked already, but does any member know if six game projections were moved to some place or are just gone now?

I know it's only 3GWs until the end of the season but it's nice to see points projection for each player for each GW.

    Thanks all.

Banning davies would make getting rose nice and easy!

Reckon Danny will feature in gw37.

Currently have the following with 1 ft and 0.7 itb.

    DDG (Ryan)
    Morgan Lowton Smalling (Long Alonso)
    Willian Salah Son Mahrez (Groß)
    Kane Vardy Barnes

Had a storming 2 weeks and now in top 1.3k with TC to come.

Need some advice though. Clearly need Man City before Gw37, but feel this week it looks ok, rotation aside. Already not sure who to bench.

Should I jump to get sterling now, jump if salah is rested, or just aim to save FT?

Jump if Salah rested, as it's difficult to see how you can get City easily.
