Captains

Captain Sensible – The pros and cons of various Gameweek 21 options

Three down, one to go.

The last of four Gameweek deadlines in the space of 11 days passes this morning at 11:30 GMT, with Fantasy managers subsequently having some well-earned respite as the FA Cup third round takes centre stage at the weekend.

Who to captain in Gameweek 21 may still be dominating FPL bosses’ thoughts, however.

With that in mind, we’ve gone over those performing well in our still-live captain poll before carrying out a comparison between the individuals themselves, their teams and their opponents in order to pinpoint the best candidate.

Captain Poll

There’s no runaway leader in our poll this week, with Eden Hazard (£11.1m) pipping Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.4m) into second place.

The Belgian, who bagged a 14-point haul when Chelsea last met Southampton in Gameweek 8, has accumulated 27.1% of the vote, with Aubameyang sitting on 25.3%.

Arsenal’s Gabonese striker also has previous with Gameweek 21’s opponents, having recorded his second-biggest Fantasy Premier League return of the season with a 15-point haul against Fulham back in early October – despite only emerging as a 62nd-minute substitute.

A third premium option with a fairly appealing fixture against a side battling relegation is Harry Kane (£12.5m), who has attacking returns in each of his last nine Premier League starts.

Kane sits third in our poll with 18.8% of the vote.

The in-form Fantasy option of the short term is Paul Pogba (£8.3m), who has accrued a phenomenal 46 points in the space of just three Gameweeks.

Pogba has garnered 9.4% of all votes cast ahead of Manchester United’s trip to Tyneside, something that would have been unthinkable not even a fortnight ago.

There’s a sharp drop-off to the rest of the leading captaincy candidates, with Richarlison (£7.0m), Mohamed Salah (£13.3m), Son Heung-min (£8.8m) and Alexandre Lacazette (£9.4m) the only other FPL assets to have attracted more than 1% of the vote.

Everton pair Gylfi Sigurdsson (£7.3m) and Lucas Digne (£5.2m) complete the top ten with 0.9% of the vote each, at the time of writing.

How have I just discovered the RMT app now??
I have 393.51 for the next 6 weeks.
I would imagine the app runs on the highly optimistic side, but I think that still looks like a good estimate??

    Anyone use this more reguarly?

Still don't get how I've only just found it! 🙁

Used it last two seasons and felt it made me overthink moves too much. Also found it didn’t update against form and team news quick enough.

Haven’t used it this season, preferring to go with gut feeling and the MOTD eye review.

I use it for points comparison rather than outright points prediction ie: its likely that Haz will score higher than Auba in GW21. I also use it to see who to bench...sometimes I ignore the recommendation.

    Happy New Year

Considering who to play out of Robbo and TAA

    According to FFS Team News;

    >Robbo likely up against Sterling, Bilva & Walker
    >Trent likely up against Sane, Silva & Danilo

Which one is going to give most opportunity?

Robbo is more solid and up against a weaker (less played) defensive line, but Trent on set pieces:

Did lukaku take his chance - I think he did, coming on getting a goal.

Surely he enters ogs plans - if he does start then rashford moves to the wing probably for lingard or martial

    1. conorbon
      • 10 Years

I think he will play Lukaku, Sanchez and Martial, no point risking Rashford when he has these three plus Lingard.

    2. Urchin
      • 10 Years
      5 years, 3 months ago

I doubt Martial will be dropped with the form that he is in. But Lukaku hardly adds anything useful to that XI, IMO. They are all getting goals, Rashford provides additional creativity and pace, Lukaku clearly lacks both.

Don’t Think he’ll risk A winning team by introdusing not match fit players over match fit and on form players. Sanchez and Kaku probably only cameos 1-2 more weeks. Rash likely to start and fit:

Can’t decide on a captain this week:

Aubameyang - may not start , may be out on wing, Fulham seem to have improved substantially in defence
But does have a point to prove after Liverpool drubbing

Hazard - out in wing , Chelsea riddled with injury , the Morata effect
But does seem to enjoy playing saints who are without hoijbirg

Maybe I should just go Anderson ?
